New Race Announced! The Au Ra

The horn style on the females kind of remind me of draenei females in wow.

Possible, but it is still a significant size differenc when you compare the min/max height of both sex of a race.

we might not be seeing both Tribes for the race. I mean compare a female Midlander to a male Highlander

Well, the female is absolutely adorable. The males are okay, I am hoping there are better horn options for them... 'Cause holy shit that looks terrible that way on the male.

the issues of a RPer... i just made my Lalafell a interesting character that i like to play as, and suddenly NEW RACE I WANNA BE ;A; SE y u no let me copy my character with no gil into a separate server so i can have my lala all 50 war and magic with the new Au Ra lvl 50 on all with no gil to inflate the market :D

Yep Dragon people...

Males are cool enough. Feels like they held back on the females, 'gotta make them more human and cute so people will play them'. Which may well be true. But you've already got options for that, go ahead and make some scary badass dragon ladies. Or maybe compromise with one clan being more human than the other. Like how you've got highlander and midlander to be more wrpg or jrpg.

I don't mind the height difference though.

I am pretty sure that we are seeing the 2 species.
One has the cooler color scheme and skin-tone of Duskwights with large wing-like horns on the males and thick horns on the females.
The other has warmer skin tones like Hellsguards and curled ram-horns on the males and delicate gazelle horns on the females.

Oh yes, this... I would love to be able to copy a character then fantasia for RP purposes... I'd accept starting with nothing and have to earn money to buy things... Calamity salvager would be baseline so you can purchase base relics and start with the job gear at best... I would grind again just for STUFF...

First: Like every other race there are two factions to choose from. Are the horns the only thing that changes between the two for this race, or are there different types of horn styles to choose from in character creation?

Second: How the heck will they look when males are wearing Warrior Artifact/Relic head gear? I mean they already kind of have those horns in a similar place. Would look interesting on Drk though.

Third: There goes my hopes for a variant of the Bangaa or Nu Mous.

The thing that I love the most is the hairstyle they showed for the females! I love it already! I just hope we get customizable horn types, like we did with Miqote tails.

Also, please please please SE can we have the twintail hairstyle from the concept art for astrologian!??? :D

I guess"Au'Ra" offers us a glimpse of their naming convention? I guess having an apostrophe in their name will be a thing?

Looks like they really pushed the boat out regarding minimising development time, effort and cost. May as well call them Padjal extreme or some such. Churn it out, turn it out and cash it in.

Now parties will be filled with horny guys looking like cat girls and more horny guys looking like... well, horny guys.

This, it might even be lumped in as part of the expansion...like 'free fantasia with purchase' kinda thing.

My first reaction was meh, but looking at it again I'm seriously thinking about using that fantasia from last year >_>;

So far I'm really loving the starting gear on the males; it makes them look rough. The scales I'm eh on, and the horns look a little forced, but if they give enough options I might have to join the bandwagon.

Au'Ra DRK... god there'll be plenty of those XD

I guess this just leaves the question... how many people will make new characters just to grab the name Priscilla.

I agree about the height differences, I find it very noticeable and sexist. In a menacing race like this why do the women look like little girls? Not a fan of their look, but its still early on. Maybe the females are at minimum height and males are at max? I hope so anyway. Would be silly to have the women be half the size as the men. Also the male gear is way cooler than the female.

Male/female looking like they belong to the same race and having scales everywhere not small patches of it that looks like a bad skin disease. They look like reskinned humans, they could have gone a bit further with the whole horned dragon people idea.

For a large number of species (human included) adult females are smaller in stature than males on average. It's not sexist, it's genetics.

Wonder if Satasha HM sheds some light on the design of the Au Ra, they did say how the customization would allow for varied looks between them in designs of their horns and such so maybe "Au Ra" are actually humanoids that made a deal with a primal and intook to much aetherial energy and changed their race of people because of the deal they made for power.

Since they do look misplaced ina sense, you have ears replaced with horns and scales placed about their body but they still have skin, it kinda suggest they are somewhat more of a mutation rather than a natural race.

In that sense it would make sense why Yugiri would hide her appearance when you consider all the other races they don't have such oddities like human flesh and dragon scales, someone might look at that and think they've been tainted or are a bad omen because they look to be going through a transformation.

Heck Amdapor Keep and Snowcloak showcase humans transforming themselves, one into a demon and the other into a dragon. So it's possible that this appearance their race has could be related to that as well. It will be interesting to see the lore behind them when they are released because their seems to be more than meets the eye as to why they would seclude themselves the way they did for all this time.

I wasn't interested in any new races until now.

looks nice...but everything just looks like variations of Hyur...
Miq=Hyur with tails.
elezen=tall hyur
roe=hyur on steroids.
But i guess those horns will look nice, sticking out of helmets...unless the horns get their own little chain-cover -.-

LOL...sure, I could post a picture of my Mother and Father in Law if you'd like... He's 6'6 and she's 4'10....not exactly a 'close height gap' But really, I don't see the big deal in general.

You misuderstood what they were asking for. They want to clone their character AND current character progression....just not their gil/maybe gear so that they don't need to re-level everything just because they like the new race. Basically they want to be able to RP on both characters without having to re-do all the leveling.
