Isn't Platinum a whole set of gear and a mount? Going by current items a mount alone is what $25?

Over. It gives a two person mount and a minion, with a prettier dress. One mount alone is $25, but it happens to be a 2 person mount. The only way to get one of these is getting a friend to buy the game and pay for a 90-day suscription, which doesn't cost less than 50 bucks.
Not really. For what it concerns crafting the lower cost of the materials on the broker is already a nerf. Regarding Coil/Primals is basically the same, the basic progression of the gear (Allagan Tomestones) is a nerf of all the previous fights. "Hard content" has to be a challenge, a challenge has to be an obstacle to overcome. Players trying to do Coil and the Trials EX should enjoy themself by breaking these walls, like with sports. If you keep lowering the difficulty of the game, making radical modifications, you will definitely get troubles later on... those "New Players" will never be at the same level of the rest because of their previous experience. All of this will also harm the player base in the endgame. You don't know how many times I saw farm parties in T7 being able to kill Melusine, after the 2.4 patch, just thanks to the nerfs Square Enix applied.
Edit: Can't include the quote to your post because of the maximum characters limit on the forum.
English patch notes:

So which is it? English patch notes make it sound too good to be true.
My guess is $90 for platinum....or something around that. It'll be a ridiculous price for a MMO wedding, either way.
I hope not but I expect the worse so I wont be disappointed.
That just means they didn't nerf T7 at the right pace. Imagine if all T's were as hard as they always were. Thanks to older players wanting to move on to newer content, newer players still trying to clear older content would end up hopelessly trying to catch up. The same applies to crafting. It has to have its progression nerfed too - it just means they shouldn't nerf it again for a while. This one is enough for now.
This stage will propably lose it just like Atma and final one will bring it back, i mean this cannot be final stage yet as it ended just being ilvl125. Tbh its kinda wierd that it already didnt match with augmentet IW weapons, maybe it gets "hotfix" when tomes/upgrade items will start to drop from CT3 as othervise it would huge middlefinger for all relic grinders, and final stage will mostlikely make it on par with Dreadwyrms just before expansion.
They need to nerf the earlier Relic quest stages and make them easier. Especially the ridiculous Novus stage with the materia requirements. Come on Squenix, what the hell.
If they want to eventually make it easier they could by making you not need as many Materia. Make it for example, where instead of having to add a certain number of I/II/III/IV Materia per stat, you just have to add as an example, 5-10 of DET Materia (and they can still be the cheap ones) but you still get the maximum amount of DET. It just automatically adds it like with the books.
Alternatively (which would make people rage, I'm sure) they could crash the market by making you able to obtain the Materia through tomes or something.
Keep in mind they do want to retain some level of fair-ness with people who've already done it. Just saying it wouldn't be fair to those who paid full price. Though increasing ways to get alex (Whether it be % increase in Fate drop, or price reductions) would still keep to the fair-ness and making it easier on those that have been left behind or perhaps working on a second / third relic, etc.
The new stage likely to stay i125 in order to keep the alternating upgrade path.
Nexus -> IW -> Legendary Relic -> AIW -> Legendary Relic +1/Dreadwyrm -> Heavensward Raid weapon
They don't want a repeat of 2.0 where people ignored T5 because they already have an i90 weapon and 2.3's calls of "Ignore the Relic just do ST and get an Unaligned Tomestone and Sands of Time."
Ultimately though, without easing the Materia portion it will never be easier for other players to catch up because the Materia is the hurdle. Relics (with ideal stats) are a rich person's weapon as it stands.
I don't think they'd do something like that though until say, the expansion at minimum for the very reason you stated.
I know some people might not agree with this but they sort of already nerfed at least the Alexandrite portion of the relic grind. You can buy maps now for 400 Soldiery instead of 800 Mythology. Still a grind but easier now. In my experience, I'm getting bonus Soldiery tomes from all sorts of duties so its still really easy to get the required amount fast.
EDIT: I will say this though the materia portion is a little bit ridiculous. I'm sure it's this way on most servers but if you want to make a min/max best version of your weapon (at least for DPS) it costs a ton of money. And in fact, it used to be cheap to just meld accuracy on your weapon. Things like Acc 4's and Parry 4's were pretty cheap but now on my server everything is expensive.
Please, everyone, pay extra attention to this!

Maybe. I tend to stay out of the big pissing contests about whats harder to obtain/do. Personally I think Soldiery is pretty easy to obtain. I DO think it comes a little bit slower with some methods. Hunts being a good example. You still get the same Soldiery as you did before but since Soldiery is the new Mythology I guess that's sort of a nerf. Before one S rank hunt was 200 Mythology and now it's just 50 Soldiery. So I guess that is a little slower.
This might be a good suggestion, if what you're saying is remove the RNG aspect of melding on the scrolls. I've already completed 2 Novus' (working on second Nexus right now) and I probably won't be doing another so this wouldn't affect me at all but that would reduce costs significantly. On my server I believe it would cost 3.6 million gil to meld out just the Tier 4 of Determination assuming you never break one. So assuring that you'll never break one would go a long way. It probably wouldn't ease the suffering of a lot of those people out there without much gil to lean on but at least they could work towards something and never have to worry about spending time/money on something that ends up just breaking.
B ranks were the main reason why players got flooded with myths, 30myth from enemy that had rather short respawn time and there were multiple zones(bacially you were able to kill them non-stop)so there was almost always one up somwhere. Now that B's dont give tomes anymore SE could boost A and S ranks lil bit as those have alot longer respawn times compared to old B's, currently theres really no reason to do hunts if you are only after tomes and dont need allied seals.

I'm not sure what fairness there will be left when everyone already knows that Heavensward will bring a gear reset. The Relic quest will probably start over at the expansion with a new weapon, or possibly use the final stage of the current Relic as it's base. Might as well let latecomers have the damn thing before Heavensward.
I know your pain all to well : (
What is next, alexander as a summer resort ?
Why are you throwing away your past SE (siren, diablos and fenrir also)
To add to the suffering the new relics are realy ugly, i hope they give us the posibility to glamour a precedent step over this abberations.
Lately the art team leaves a lot to desire, look at the crap dreadwyrm equip. I hope in the last tier of crystal tower for something decent.
