Taboo? Like, half or more of the NPCs in the game that deal with romance at all, that romance is with other races... Longhaft (Hyur) and his ladies (Miqo'te), Yellow Moon (Roegadyn) and her fanboys (assorted), Severian (Hyur) and his lost love (Miqo'te), Thancred (Hyur) and the ladies he flirts with (assorted), Moenbryda (Roegadyn) and her merciless teasing of Urianger (Elezen) - just a few examples. In none of these is it even slightly implied that there's a mixed-race taboo.

If a mixed-race taboo is the official excuse they're going with, they're sure doing a piss-poor job of illustrating it in-game!

Much simpler, I think, to stick with a rule like, "The child is always the same race as the mother, regardless of the race of the father."

After seeing the picture of the Au-RA does it give more evidence that Yugiri is a decedent of SHiva? Shiva looks like an Elezen and dragons are dragons but I dont think I've seen a dragoon with horns though. The scaly skin is a given.

The Au Ra could be the result of some form of cross breeding between dragons and mortal species but I doubt Shiva was involved. I might be wrong but Shiva isn't that ancient since she is a figure in Ishgardian history and the Au Ra are not only a race with a fair degree of evolved variation but aren't even native to the continent.

Also we know that either dragons can turn into mortal forms or turn mortals into dragons.

I suspect playable Au Ra will be Doman refugees who arrived on other boats from Yugiri's. She did say that there were other ships out there.

Now for the real question. If Saint Shiva and her "Lover Dragon" produced a child/children, would it/they have been Eorzea's First Dovakiin? O_O Y'all know how the song goes. "Kin to both Wyrm and the races of man".

Shiva is over 1,000 years old. Her bones turned to dust centuries ago, her visage resurrected gloriously as the heretics who worship her image her as a goddess made manifest.

But the story suggests she was an Ishgardian guilty of heresy. That would mean she would be no older than Ishgard itself and more particularly, the conflict with the dravanians.

Midgardsomr had 7 children. Bahamut seems likely to be one I think. We know that there are 2 more in Eorzea. That leave 4 more. Yugiri refers to sacred mountains where blood must not be spilt in Doma. It strikes me as more likely that one of Midgardsomr's children travelled to Doma and became the source of the Au Ra rather than Shiva had a couple of kids that got spirited away all the way to Doma and they founded an entire race of Dragon People split into two clans. For a start, it would allow for several thousands of years of history for the race to form rather than just a thousand.

Look at our real world and in 1,000 years entire nations have been born, uprooted, destroyed, migrated, and assimilated as well as their cultures and languages. A LOT can happen in just 200 years as the United States of America has shown(229 years). 1,000 years is beyond enough time for complete cultures and species to give rise.
