Ixali Oaknots are the reason.
Only 22m, but I don't focus on making money very often.

I currently have about 550,000 in my retainers, but I'm also one of the only active members in my tiny, tiny Free Company (made up of IRL friends who can't play very often), so I've been pretty much the sole contributor of the 3 million in the company coffer. However, I am a vicious materia hoarder, so I estimate with current Coeurl prices, I probably have another four or so million worth of materia in my retainers. It really isn't that hard to make money in this game; the problem is that there are too many massive gil sinks. Oh, you leveled up all your crafting classes and want to get enough materia for all of them so you can actually master craft? AHAHAHA. Novus weapon? lol. Anything bigger than a small house? Pfffttttt. Oh, you just wanted a piece of vanity swimwear? Tee hee, HAVE FUN.
The average player can't save gil for ALL of these things at once, and the end result is that you constantly feel broke because you can't afford all the things the game seems to suggest you should be able to afford. I definitely believe everyone who is claiming the devs are out of touch with the actual gil amassed by players and what and where it is being spent.
I have just under 1m on my character, no gil on my retainers but I do have things selling on the markets.
I have a substantial amount.
I am the jerk who buys the entire crystal board out and price manipulates for weeks.
Hi!
Also, since you're keeping tabs, I have over 10m.
On me 12k, on retainer a few mil.
120,000 ^^b cuz materia is soo cheap right ? ^^
I only have a little more then 137,000 gil and have never gone higher then that before. >x>()
Little over 3.5M now, after I bought my private house and sponsored other for my gf. I've never been over 9M though... All my money seems to fade at that point.
Before Housing 12.2mil, now I have a little under 7 w/ about 6 mil on the AH and 5-7mil in materia/demimateria that I'm stockpiling. I Sb'd 5-10 sets like once a week for a 2 months until I reached 10 mil and just reduced my spending to only about 20k every 3-4 days. I probably spent a good 2-3mil not included on desynthing too. It think the biggest hump is the first 2-3mil. At that point, you have the knowledge and the discipline to keep gaining more. I'm also at 9/11 artisan tools for DoH/DoL so I don't really spend on items unless I really can't wait.
Because it's all some huge competition, right? *rolls eyes*
It's fake money. In a fake world where we're all supposed to have fun together. It boggles my mind that people don't want to actively help each other enjoy the game, and instead turn it into some sort of "im better than u nub lern2play" competition.
EDIT: I keep 5k on me for teleports and such. My banking retainer has 1.4m on him, and that's the highest it's ever been. I'd say my total accumulated (current total + spent) isn't more than 2-2.5m over the life of the character, though.
930k... not good x.x
5 mill and some after buying a house and double figure mill in items on MB.
SBd own materia for Novus, crafting own furniture for house.
If I want something, I go out and get it :) Even if it takes longer, I feel more of a sense of accomplishment that way.
~450K now. Most I've ever had was 1 mil and I made the stupid mistake of trying to meld my crafting gear. End result was a half-melded set that couldn't get me to the point I could craft anything of worth (IE: Broom and Pillow minion) and damn near bankruptcy. :-/
About 70K... but I've sunk about 5 mil into my Novus and crafting melds recently.
2.4mil. I could easily have more if I stopped being lazy and standing in town.
5.4mil right now
I make and spend. The other week, around 1.7M.
This week, 390K.
more than most people.
Sitting at right around 27m at the moment.... between my alts though (I do have an army >_>) Probably more like a raw gil amount around 30mil. With 23 cracked IVs, over 50 cracked IIIs, and god knows how many cracked 2's and 1's left.
I think that that they probably took into account legacy accounts assets as well seeing as DET IVs on my server are approaching 600k and you have the choice of the turn around.
I actually already own a medium tier 1 house in ward 1 Mists on Sarg, my husband and I bought it back at 2.1 when we leveled our FC and had been saving for it since 1.0. This time around I was a bit shocked they kept the prices high but that doesn't scare me all that much. We plan on buying a large plot as we farm the remaining gil we'll need to do so. I'll assume we'll drop around 45mil this time for the plot and 3 mil for the house. so... 17 mil to go X_X
Just over 100k. Spent all mah gilz on Det IV materia right before 2.38 and haven't really been on to re-start making money since. Learning what I did to get that last Det IV, I could have a fair amount of money pretty quickly if I tried.
13.8mil. I would have bought a house if my friends could have afforded to get one next to mine, even though i despise this housing patch...
If you want gil start spiritbonding. You dont need to have your crafts leveled just buy a few pieces off the markets, and start from there.
50 grand.
Still workin' on it.
7mil to many avenues after lvl 50 to make money.
mats from beast tribes. some items from certain vendors . gc mats gained from trading items for seals sells for 10k each on specific items. myth mats but now thats 10k under due to hunts.
recently went into gardening for the fruits 10 sells for 20k and u can get stacks of 36 with shroud soil. also alot of items from crafting sells. i only made a miner last friday spent 3 mill on overmelds and dodre items and made back 4mil in 4 days so far and im not a hardcore player. i work go to school. so i suggest lvl a craft lolz.
Nothing in my post suggests it's a competition, if it were those with large amounts of gil would be posting it all over here, not keeping it quiet.
My post was showing that this thread is a skewed/false perception of the gil in game currency out there.
I highly suspect if the "richer" players said what they had saved immature people like yourself would be calling them cheats ect ect....
Attitudes like yours prevent many from "having fun together" to be honest.
400,000 gil
I have a little around 1.6 million gil at this moment.
I had 15 mil before the housing patch. But note that I was working REALLY hard to save up gil for it. I was really planning on a large personal house to be 10 mil, Medium personal house to be around 5mil, and a small to be around 1 mil. I had left 5 mil for myself for furnishing or regaining the money. I am not a legacy player despite being on Balmung, I transferred to this server for roleplay. All and all I started about 7ish months ago, I think, but only really got into the game about 4 months ago.
I did grab a small house in the goblet, exactly the small plot I would have wanted for a small house (I did prefer the goblet over the other wards) but am pretty disappointed in the implementation. I feel really bad for taking away a house from a potential 30-200 person FC, but getting a house was really what I was looking forward to since they even MENTIONED personal housing, so I ended up getting a house since it was what I worked for the last 3 months ish.
I still think the price was way too high for a personal small.
25mil sitting in a retainer shared between myself and a close friend, we both just use that as a shared bank and take/add what we need.
Around 500k "walking around" money for repairs/teleports/consumables etc.
I don't understand how people have money issues in this game, I make around 100k per day just running random dungeons and stuff when I get bored.
By the time my Alt got lv50 and beat the main story. he had around 500k. just from dungeons and selling allagan pieces, and spirit bound leveling gear.
My main Char, that does nothing to make money at all, has around 2m. My only expenses are teleports and dark matter.
I'm averaging 500-600k atm but can get above 1 mil, and fluctuate back down to 200k, which usually happens when i got on a materia buying/melding spree.
I think I have around 600k. It varies between 500k and 800k, but I've never had 1mil.
Out of curiosity, why do people keep some gil on their retainers? I've seen several ppl mention doing this, but to my knowledge you cant lose gil thats kept on your person by dying or anything else. Why bank it?
I have almost every craft 3 star and I'm sitting at 1.1m gil right now, it fluctuates depending on what I sell, but the problem is that I don't craft enough things to sell, I usually just give things away to people...
Myth mats + Philo mats + GC Seal items > more Philo items + Roulette bonus
It really isn't too difficult.
Finishing the Ixali Beast Tribe Quests alone yields you around 50 Oaknots which can directly be turned into Philo mats, which are 3-5k per mat on most servers.
Last year around November I think? There was talk of an RMT scare. Something about them hacking the servers to steal players gil if said player had it on their character, via packet re-routing or something like that. Suppossivly gil stored on retainers were safe. I dunno if this was true or not but its the only reason I can think of.
75k ish, it fluctuates depending. The majority of my money all went into a FC house totaling close to 2 mil and other bits of money went to help my son get new gear as he leveled and other random useless crap that I have nothing to show for anymore.
About 3.5 million but if I start to truly work on making gil it will be much more.
Sitting on 2.1 million currently. My highest was 4 mil which was blown on Novus upgrade.
I plan on making some nice gil come 2.4 when everyone and their grandmother is trying to level NIN and will be looking for healers and tanks :3
If you do all roulettes you can get 100k easy.
To saeedaisspecial question - I keep most of my gil on retainer when I save up for something (like saving for a house). So I have retainer holding bank and the rest of gil is for buying stuff at market board and repairs.
