Plus, when it comes down to it, "shelling out millions" really isn't casual oriented material.
I'm have my Novus 'and' I'm working on my T9 kill. I don't know why people assume that Novus was meant for casual players. Sure you don't have to bother with SCoB to get it, but it takes a lot of time and gil to finish.
"Casual" doesn't mean "does not raid". So many people seem to think that, for some reason. "Casual" is more of a measure of how often a player logs on, not what they choose to do (or not to do) while they play. It took me around 40-50 hours of playtime to finish my Novus. A casual player might take a month to clock that many hours. We really do need a new term for "non-raiders".
Novus was not meant to be completed in one day. Casual point of view, if you run expert once every day which should only take 30-40min you will complete your Novus in 75 days in theory. Should be quicker since you'll also buy some maps with Myth. So probably around 2 months. That's a pretty decent time taken to get a "legendary" weapon upgraded if you like at other MMORPGs how long it takes to upgrade a "legendary item" WoW and FFXI are good examples.
Ugggg...for the 100th time - you don't need to shell out millions. There literally is no noticeable difference between a 44, 31 zodiac and a 25, 25, 25 zodiac (as illustrated in my BLM example above). If you're a BLM, going the 44, 31 approach literally only rewards you 1 second of extra damage every 5 minutes. Why pay 10-15M gil for a practically nonexistent benefit when you can complete a just as good 25/25/25 novus for a mere 300-500k?
Also - those of you complaining about Atma - do you realize what you're getting yourselves into? Average person is going to take something like 30 hours for atma? correct? Some very very unfortunate poor souls will seemingly take much longer (less than 1% of the population it would seem). Have you taken the time to examine Animus? Each book has 3 fates, 3 leves, 3 dungeons and 10x10 enemies.
Three fates are going to take the average person 3 to 5 hours (some of these fates can take 3 hours alone to pop if you're unlucky. I'm being generous here). 3 dungeons will take the average player 3 to 4 hours (duty finder can take 30 minutes for a lot of these and then you're often dealing with brand new players on runs for such dungeons as Aurum Vale, etc.). Three leves will take 20 to 30 minutes. 10x10 enemies will take you an hour to an hour and a half. Bottom line - you're looking at 8 to 10 hours per book (longer if you have bad luck). All of this ignores earning the myth (which is pretty easy to casually accumulate - but it needs to be factored in). Are you ready to invest a good 90 hours into books alone (not counting myth) and then jump into the Novus upgrade (which if you're a casual is going to take a good 75 days worth of expert roulette runs and some gil)?
Bottom line - if you're complaining about atma - you may want to rethink what you're getting yourself into. Atma is the least time consuming of the steps (unless you're the most unluckiest person on earth).
I bought all my materia soon as the quest came out and finished it for less then 100k. Well its the tank sword so I went for parry and acc both were cheap. Also if you going for other stats that aren't tank stats you might as well go for 3 stats not use tier 4 and it wouldn't be more then 200k as well.
As upgrades go relics should be buffed, and I mean a lot! If the path is going to be so expensive in terms of Gil and time as upgrades continue, it is only right to make them better than what can be obtained via most other routes.
My first item level 110 weapon took me about 3 weeks worth of farming to get, and that was only because of soldiery cap. The UAT in ST, the sands from 1 day of hunting, and the tomes from hunts alone... Bang, got actually a better weapon for a great deal cheaper and took only a fraction of the time.
Something seems very off to me knowing for fact I can get an i110 in 3 short weeks with little time or effort that is comparable and in some cases better than an i110 that took me many months and tons of Gil and myth farming to obtain.
Right now, relics are not worth it, and they are super underpowered in comparison to the effort put into them. They need to be buffed big time if this is the route SE is going to take with them.
As to your question specifically to the i115 weapons in coil, I don't know because unlike the ilvl 110 weapons that UAT and sands can buy they can not be solo'd... So I don't know honestly, all I know for sure is it's super sad when the only group content in an i110 weapon you HAVE to do is an ST group. Even the relic path takes at least 30 steps that force group centric quest steps.

Who has more fun obtaining their weapon? The one who manages to get their T9 to drop, or the one who completes their Novus?
If one or the other isn't proving to be fun, then something should probably change. Time invested means very little if one is having fun completing an objective. If something is fun, it can afford to take a bit longer. If its not as fun, then the experience should be shortened up a bit.

I would just throw on shit t1 materia and be done with it. I am sure somewhere further in the questline the novus materia wont make a damn bit of difference, then i will lmao at all the people who wasted time/gil doing t4s.
Right now I think the perspective is skewed incorrectly as far as Novus vs. T9. Novus isn't a substitute for doing T9 because getting a novus doesn't let someone experience the storyline or other aspects of T9. In all honesty they would have been better sticking with a middle teir difficulty version of Coil, UAT + soldiery, and regular coil than going with the open world grindfest that the Atma was and will continue to be. Heck, they probably should have made UAT have the power to upgrade an existing relic weapon instead of just granting an entirely new one. Then they could also link sands of time with upgrading the relic weapon to 110.
If they want materia to be useful, they need to rethink where we can use materia (Hint: Crafted end game AND end game armor.) :p Also while they are at it, SE does need to make it so crafters can produce end game gear. It hasn't broken the dozen of other MMOs doing it and it certainly wouldn't break Final Fantasy XIV...
I feel that both choices are going to be just as bad. Novus is the easier of the 2 by far. Money can be made and time can be used, but it can't hold up to the many hours and sleepless nights of T9 progression. If you want a "Decent" weapon, and I use the term loosely, the UAT/Sol weapon upgraded is by far a faster choice with the addition of hunts. Its a "good" Weapon for all classes, and in some cases has better stats, but is it and can it ever be better than novus or HA? Not by a long shot. Stat customization makes Novus more appealing and HA is just BiS for any job. It really comes down to what YOU want, and what YOUR willing to say is "good enough". And to be frank, you can do all content in the game with a Levi or Ramuh weapon, bar SCoB.
Got my Novus this week, went this route not because of ability, but because trying to get in a coil group with all the mean people in this game isn't worth the energy.

Social environments can sort of be compared to the environment's plants grow in. Where there is an abundance of warmth and nutrients, plants thrive and build upon one another. Where the environment is harsh, the plants with thorns will dominate.

Answer is No, I got sick of repeating T5 because people can't dodge the dive bombs, 50+ tries almost had it beat once but healer kept croaking on the platforms right before tornado's after so many times repeating im sick of the fight not interested in it at the moment and probably don't care about it at all. I was going for story the gear will be out dated anyways soon.

The thing is, from the way Yoshida is presenting the atma grind, it really is supposed to be more of a "challenge mode" reward than an honest form of progression. For a myriad of minor reasons, the current content isn't working as intended for all of its target audience. It's the classic problem of many people who are capable of raiding being prevented from doing so by a variety of factors outside their control. What do the excess raiders separated by home server, available times, and differing personalities have to keep them occupied, and does the game possess challenges that grow the raiding community so they are not forever trapped outside the raids?
