Can we feed the fruits also to other players chocobos?
Almost 7 hours ago I fed my chocobo a xelphatol apple (deepen red) and there was absolutely no change to this point. Maybe you have to feed several of the food at a time?
I tried feeding it a "deepen blue" fruit. This time I got a "your chocobo's plumage will change in 6 hours" message. I do not believe I received that message before maintenance with the apple.
I can confirm that my chocobo also had no change after 1 apple feeding. I'm doing one more just to make sure the changes aren't crazy minimal. Getting 36 from 1 yield has me worried that it will take many feedings to get any sort of change.
I definitely got the message before maintenance, also.
Damn if this true that means our Chocobo starts off at both red and green are at max (255) and blue is at 0.
I want a purple chocobo that means I have to do the following: Green 0, Red 102 and Blue 153.

i have been referring to this chart myself....

It's SE style. I bet we have to feed 765 fruits and wait 6h each time to get a black chocobo.
Do we really need hundreds of different color intensities for our chocobos?
I just fed my chocobo 5 of each of the 'lightening' hues in an effort to push it towards a 'white' path. An interesting thing to note: Every time you feed the chocobo, the time of the change is actually scaled to the first feeding. This hopefully means the effects can stack!

It can be that 'lightening' hues mean that the specific color aspect get reduced. So it would go more into the black direction instead to the white direction.
Okay so Desert Yellow (default chocobo colour) appears to be 255 R 255 G 50ish B. You cannot deepen R or G any further and you can only lighten them. I tried feeding fruit in bulk to the chocobo and got results for everything but deepening those two values. It now tells me my chocobo is beginning to grow new feathers. So, within 6 hours, you can bulk feed a colour combination you desire I believe.
This is a rather interesting thing to keep up with, just so you all know.
I'm rather excited to see which direction things will go in regards to how to get the right values towards colors.
We have three people experimenting right now with around 100 combined food. One person is not receiving the message that their chocobo will gain new feathers when trying to deepen red or green. I started receiving the message after using several lighten reds/greens and deepened the blue.
I'm eagerly awaiting the first screenshot! :D
Also... guess my dark red fruit will be donated to the FC. :/
To the people who said they had no change six hours after feeding, I'd just like to confirm, you left them in the stables the entire time after feeding, yes? Patch notes say you have to stable, feed, and leave in the stables for six hours to see the change - fetching negates the feed and cancels the timer.
if there is 0 change in the appearance and name then that would mean each fruit gives +/- 5 points(explains the large yields). and that color names have thresholds of probably +/- 10-15.
if the stacking method works we will see results soon, if it don't i would say no more than 16 hours we will see different colors / color names popping up.
The game only gives me the message when i feed lighten blue.
Keep in mind that the feature is new and there might be some bugs and/or error regarding the system message display.
While it "should" means that, since the timer is not reseted after each fruit, they are cumulative, it may not be intended.
Unless you are doing it FOR SCIENCE, keeping some spare fruit seems to be a good idea.
We don't know exactly how the values used for the RGB system works in the game, nor do we know how many "points" the fruits will add/remove.
So, actually, these values are of no use until we know how it works, comparing the changes with the number of fruits used (if multiple uses are not a bug).
However, there is a very high chance that the numbers are rounded, making it, for example, a 0/0/0 to 10/10/10 ratio.
This tend to be confirmed by Rjain, who tested with some fruits with no change at all while some R values are not maxed regarding the exact actual RGB value of the color.
So, yep, we need the first sample of data to be able to understand it better.
The thing I'm still wondering about is the number of fruit produced, which is really high. It can mean one of two things: SE wants them to be super cheap with a high availability, or, the system is more like 50/50/50 (or even higher numbers) so you need *a lot* of fruits to change the colors (implying that a fruit change a value by 1).
The only thing I know is that, in FFXIV ARR, Chocobo related content is very time consuming. It would not surprise me if SE made this process really long... ie: you won't be able to fully change the color of your chocobo in a day.
Which filter is that? I've fed my chocobo 6 times total (red and blue lightening) and haven't seen that message. But when I "Examine chocobo" it says I'll see the change in 2 more hours.
