i dont understand what all the disappointment is about...
I do not do hunts, and I don't really plan to either... that said, I'm glad they didn't nerf them since they have been available for so long. I despise this new mentality of "Exploit early, exploit often" that MMOs create by allowing over-rewarding content to last for weeks to a month and then nerf it down after the first wave of players have achieved their rewards.
If SE was going to nerf hunts, they should have done it in a hotfix within days. Since they didn't, I'm glad to see they apparently don't plan to do it so that the next wave of players can get their rewards as well.
The problem being it will not be the next wave of players. The same wave will still be there to get all the sands/oils for all their jobs. The same wave will be there to get everything they can until 2.4, when this content will no longer hold any value to them, or to that vast, vast majority of the playerbase. The only reason to do it then would be for glamour.
I think specualtion when the extended maitences time was annouced turned into an expectation that something would be done to hunts and so people are dissapointed. We never really know whats going to happen during an extended down time as they do not normally say and the changes SE have said they would make to hunts weren't actually given a set patch date to my knowledge. I also agree that the time for making big changes has passed unfortunetly. To keep it fair hunts would have needed to be adjusted within days and now its weeks later. Even if i disagree with the massive rewards for hunts, if they changed it now they'd upset people who weren't quick enough to follow the zerg. Personally i don't now see them making any changes as its too late.
I agree. I am convinced SE doesn't know how to handle success, so they are going to keep moving further toward XI-style grinding until they are back at a more manageable 250-500kish subscribers. I cannot fathom any other reason why they would ignore broken hunts and broken relic upgrade system. The last patch was their worst in recent memory, and this maintenance is a joke at best.
I really don't know what people expected. I'm pretty sure gameplay changes and reward-altering changes would be done in a Patch, not in an average maintenance. This is Square Enix we're talking about.
That said, I have no idea why the Hunts haven't been given the Behemoth and Odin treatment, where the important monster is the only thing FOR SURE on the screen rather than 50 other players and their birds. Then again, this game's targeting and filtering system is incredibly baffling.
Don't you know this game is perfect and flawless, this just confirms it, there wasn't a real problem that means it doesn't need any fixes!
But seriously at least they should have fixed their display priority, what a shame.
Remember kids, pull and reset the local threat to Eorzea! Save a life today!
Dear SE,
Please make the hunt NMs bigger.
Signed,
A 1.0 player
I have no issue with the fix. I'm pleased. now move on
OMG! Thank you SOOO much SE for addressing the real issue first with hunts! :D Here my small group of friends were worried the pesky promises of increasing solo and small party hunt marks to make them viable as content for us to do was going to take our time away from playing other games!
So I guess this is working as intended and the purpose or hunts is to coordinate how to keep monsters alive and a race to get credit for doing something easy. That sounds like fun.
Here are some similar activities the people at SE responsible for how this works might enjoy coordinating:
1) Show up at a classroom full of second graders with a big tray of cupcakes with bright colored icing and say "Everyone who knows the answer to 'What's 1 plus 1?' can have one!". Hand over the 15-cupcake tray to the nearest kid for them to distribute to the 30 kids in the classroom fairly and walk out, confident you've just made some kids' day brighter.
2) Return the next day with another platter and say "Gee I'm sorry I realized yesterday I didn't have enough for everybody. So here's 15 more!" Hand them to the same kid for distribution and walk out, with the sound of what must be cries of joy behind you.
I figured they would at least raise daily mark's to 5 seals each or something. 1 seal is not even worth the effort. Unbelievable.
Quit your crying. There was NO REASON to start this thread, because they already announced two weeks ago now that this fix was coming.
Don't go complaining about stupid things when you don't even know what's happening! Change your attitude! That also goes for all the people responding sarcastically!
Sorry you were given 3 hours of your life back.
Look:
While I'm at it...this is from the most recent live letter.
People need to just chill the hell out and play the game.Quote:
Q18: Currently, the elite marks die instantly even after the recent adjustment. Are there any plans to make further adjustments?
A18: We are currently looking into ways of addressing this issue without simply increasing the HP of the marks.
I finally realize what the reason is. Could it be possible that all of our grievances are ignored because its in English? Perhaps it is time to flood the Japanese forums with google translated rage.
Perfect and flawless I tell you, perfect and flawless!
From the live letter.

Q15: Will you be adding ways to obtain Allied Seals in the future?
A15: Since this was just implemented, we don't have any plans to do this at the moment, but that's not to say it won't happen in the future.
Does image really matter when our grivences for the hunt are clearly not being addressed in a timely or effective manner?
Hey we're being rewarded for kill stealing and social ostracizing, but that's part of the whole Final Fantasy experience! If there's a prior game we can refer this behavior to, then its all good!
Yoshi gonna get grilled at Gamescom I guess. Hopefully he has some good answers.
the normal marks on the daily bill could be 2 seals each. the FATE's could be 5 seals each. as it stands... it is going to take FOREVER to accumulate seals. not everyone enjoys hunting Elite Marks all day long to farm/grind seals. some would rather simply perform daily/weekly activities. but with the current reward yields it will take over a month to upgrade just one piece of gear. quite absurd.
currently the FATE marks are worth only 2 seals. now i always warp to the map to just check it out. and wait a few minutes. but i am not going to wait there for 20minutes+. or clear out FATE's to get a certain one to spawn. sometimes you can get lucky and the FATE is there quickly. but other times... you can hunt the 3 normal marks in the same amount of time, or even quicker, it takes to get a single FATE mark. how does this even out?
it just doesn't add up. the FATE marks are almost never worth the effort/time.
Daily Bills needs a serious adjustment.
I was hoping for an increase to daily hunt marks as well. While i know it wasn't announced, it would have been nice since most of the hunts are on lockdown by the same people in the horde. It also would have been nice if they helped out the solo/small party hunting groups as well.
I shouldn't be surprised though, SE is slow to fix anything. Just look @ the daily beastmen missions. They have fates in those mission, people complained they were waiting too long for them for a daily, so they fix the spawn rate of the said fates. Then we get not one but TWO daily hunt fates..... And they do so without the same sped up spawn rate... I mean, do they have any common sense @ all? Jolly Green was a 2 hour wait for me... For 2 damn seals? Not a very funny Joke SE.
I guess it seems like white knighting. But it's stemming more from the fact that I am highly disappointed in people's attitudes who don't even do the research before blowing up.
If you'd like to be a respected part of the community, yes! Be RESPECTFUL. And it IS being addressed...they're working on it, if you go back and look at my post one more time you'll see the direct quote right there.
If you're going to pull quotes from the Live Letter then you may want to also pull this one as well:
Changes *are* coming to those, but it's a matter of when. Personally I hope sooner rather than later. If it takes me two weeks to get a sand but I can do it casually and at my own pace without steamrolling across the map in a large mass of people then I'm okay with it.Quote:
Q21: The rewards for Mark Bills and Elite Mark Bills feels a bit low. Do you have any plans to adjust this?
A21: We are currently looking into increasing the amount for Mark Bills. We're concerned that if we increase the rewards for elite marks it would cause even more people to focus on them, so to start out we are going to prioritize adjustments to daily marks.
Edit: Well I guess there's the link for you!
The hunt system remains to be the only thing in this game I DO NOT want to play. It's a terrible system.
The hunt mobs need to be increased in difficulty by a factor of 10. The rewards for the hunt system need some serious rethinking, especially the oils/sands. The claim system needs a tweak to cut down on the amount of spamming players can do, perhaps we need weekly limits on seals. ETC.
Yoshida-san, respectfully -- I demand that you address these problems. Please, at least tell us how stupid we are and how we are doing this wrong. You have never let me down in the past and have always addressed the problems in past content. This time we are being ignored. Why?
For a broken system that is affecting the gameplay of other content., they are taking their sweet time. Apparently Naul had higher priority, since his problem got addressed.
I get the idea of low hanging fruit, but a "We're working on it." Doesn't help make it better.
And after no luck with the content I want to do because of hunts, respect be damned.
Me too, The Hunt is so broken, unbalance, and is not fun. It also turning people into Zombie and Monsters.

Hunts completely void most other activities in the game. This is what I think must happen for Hunts to become a more passive experience.
Increase the price for the Myth gear; make it so grinding for myth isn't a bad option over hunting. Lower the amount of Myth acquired for A and S ranks. Either increase the price of Mark-Logs (500-1,000) or add a cap in which you can only obtain 3 Mark-Logs per week, outside of random Log drops. Actually, hell... make it so Mark Logs ONLY drop from A and S ranks with the current drop rate.
I understand the part about phasing these items into circulation because of 2.4 with new ilvl and coils, but... that doesn't mean that you should make the effort for them any easier. The weekly restriction on the SCoB being removed in 2.4 is enough.
Wait... "Maintenance?" I thought that was curfew.
