Same problem here. I built my PC back in Feb and had my 1st client crash 4 days ago doing hunts. It has happened 3 times since and happens when I teleport.

Workaround: Enable LOD and LOD Streaming.
I don't know what affects, but it works for me...

What it does is reduce the quality of distant geometry, head to Thanalan and look at distant tree's and mountains as you switch it on and off.
The LOD Streaming setting, affects the texturing on characters and objects, I actually found this setting to be causing the gear preview window to have low quality textures on most armor and clothes. You can also see its effects on the dead Goobdue in east thanalan, the skin texturing becomes flat as you move away from it.
Woah, glad to know that I'm not the only one, hopefully this will be fixed.
I think the problem is on SE end, because the problems started after the 2.3 patch, I was playing just fine a few days before. I uninstalled the beta drivers and went back to the latest stable, but the game still randomly crashes (more often when I try to teleport). I was doing Crystal Tower and after the 4th boss it started to stutter a lot.

I'll send the bug report to AMD too, just in case.
Can confirm this works as well, i have never hunted for so long without a problem. Turning on Occlusion Culling is not needed though.
Only problem is, i don't really like having to make changes when my card(R9 290) is more than capable of running the game.
Wish there will be a fix for this soon...
LOD streaming also helped here so far, I have yet to crash from hunting S ranks, and as a weird side effect my long load times got also reduced by 1-2s
It hasn't been a long time but I can confirm I have not seen a crash lately with LOD streaming toggled.
I think we might be narrowing in on the problem. Again R9 290X latest drivers
Can confirm. No crashes since I turned on LOD Streaming (the other one I already had on).
Is more or less hit and miss for me. Crashed once more in a hunt with LOD & LODStreaming on, and nearly again with a massive slideshow during an S rank only to have t9 later that night give a few slow downs, ending myself up with performance/sync issues later on if the client was not restarted (player names turning into spellnames they cast, screenshots not properly being taken with "Failed to take screenshot" message, and if you attempt any kind of graphical change in the game you get the whole "Unexpectedly closed (1)" message.) One thing to note during the slowdown was that there was a few on my TS mentioning I had the DC symbol, over my head.

I don't think it's an error with the drivers, however anything is possible. I am also crashing on an R9 280. Coerthas actually had a weird example where I can look away from the town and gain my FPS back, but if I turned back it'd get destroyed. I've also had LOD Streaming on for a long time, crashing still occurs teleporting anywhere I've noticed, but mostly in Coerthas and Mor Dhona. I haven't had LOD distant models on, but I'll give it a shot see if I improve. I'm pretty sure my machine is more than capable of this game.

i have a r9 290x and i've had the crashing experience on both 13.2 and 14.4 drivers.
the crash almost always happen in mor dhona where there's a lot of people, im pretty sure my GPU can handle the game fine even with crowded people but sometimes the crash just happens without any reason.
The issue still persists i.e. if you hit the 1.45GB threshold the game dies.
LOD Streaming prevents the memory from accumulating indefinitely over time which triggered the issue. However, if a single area pushes the memory usage past that threshold, you will still crash. The zone area between Mordhona and Coerthas on the Revenant's Tool side seems to be a repeat offender to trigger the issue. Especially on high population servers where Revenant's Tool has a lot of players.
Note: I play at 5760x1200 so the issue occurs more often for me because I am constantly skirting the threshold of 1.45GB.
This weekend I disabled eyefinity and went to a single monitor setup for testing and that seems to have removed the crashes for me so far. I did see a big decrease in memory usage (I was at 5760x1080) down to < 600GB on average and with the decrease in memory the crashing went away even with LOD on so far.
I want to go back to Eyfinity but it seems the combination of CrossfireX (R9 290X) + Eyefinity + DirectX 8 + Windows 8.1 causes this crash to happen almost constantly after the last update.
Can confirm on an AMD HD 7900 series. Getting a lot of huge fps drops/crashes while teleporting. If I minimize the window and then bring it up again, the screen is completely black. Waiting a few minutes will usually cause it to resolve itself, but I have had to kill the process once or twice.
Nothing I do helps get rid of the crashing.... it crashes in Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 7. clean installs, upgrades, new drivers, old drivers.
Why is nothing being done to fix this leak? Why are we stil being charged for a game I can only play 60%. getting kicked due to crashes and being still "logged in"
This is pretty pathetic..
It doesn't appear to be an issue with the game as much as an issue with specific hardware/software environments. More specifically, recent hardware/drivers from AMD. Older cards/drivers do not seem to suffer these issues. For example, I have no such issue with my older Sapphire 5870 Vapor-X nor my Asus GTX670MX--both running in Windows 8, and with older drivers.
Basically, this looks more like an issue with AMD's drivers not properly supporting the older DirectX9 crud that SE is using for this game. It is all run through emulation layers within the Windows API, and the newer cards and their drivers simply are not designed with as much focus and regression testing for the older DirectX API--they are more about DX10.1 or higher first and everything else second. Similar things used to happen all the time with XI as well and their DirectX 8.1/9.0c mixed bag of tricks (well, they probably still run into issues since it's still a hodge-podge design).
It's an underlying issue with proper vendor support for pre-DX10.1. The latest and greatest just typically are prone to having issues with these games because of their reliance on emulation for outdated API's (think Microsoft kicked DX9 to the curb in 2012 or something). We've had such issues for years now, and until they revamp clients to use true DX11 we will likely continue to see such issues.
Has anyone tried this program called CleanMem?
I'm interested to know if this thing actually works...
I have crash in game and also Blue Screen, it's happend only on FFXIV.
As most of us, i use Windows 8.1 Pro x64
I was on Windows 7 before i changed to processor i7, SSD and 16Go Ram, and there was no problem at all with my Graphic Card (AMD Radeon HD 6900 series).
What i see, when i'm in the control panel, is that either my SSD or the processor sometimes get a high peak (FFXIV is at 1Go400~ Ram used).
I did try a lot of things like switch my graphic pilot to an older version or try the latest one. nothing change.
The Blue Screen appear often when i'm in a crowd area (usually when there's a lot of ppl that TP for an NM hunt), sometimes after i've hit the duty finder button (when the search found something and the pop up windows appear ?)....
has anyone found a solution to this yet? I've had this issue for ages.
Crash in Mordhona, crash during large hunt mobs...sigh
With all of the posts on this thread, has SE acknowledged there is a problem officially? If not, Community Team, What are your thoughts?
When I talked to SE, the tech pointed me toward port forwarding saying that after updates they make changes to the ports they use. Every time I get a crash it is Event ID 1000 in event viewer which seems like a network error. I'm not sure because Microsoft did not have event ID 1000 defined. O.o
this issue has happened since 2.0 and causes the game to crash on teleport or sometimes standing around idle, it is happening due to a memory/texture coding issue between ATI hardware and the game itself, atm i get it about 2 times a day 5-10 hours playtime 13.9 drivers.
The LOD setting workaround as previously posted by Mapi should work, but i love my graphics definition :P

Also getting the massive frame drop to ~1fps + crash to desktop, mostly when trying to teleport. Sometimes it doesn't crash after the frame drop and the fps go back up once I'm in the new area, but most of the time it crashes. This happens every other hour, sometimes twice in a row, sometimes I can teleport back and forth without any problems. Never had this before 2.3.
Gonna try that LOD workaround later.

playing fullscreen windowed, usually with 40-60 fps, maybe 30 in very crowded areas.
(16.08.14) edit:// Turned on LOD Streaming and no crash since two days so far.
(22.08.14) edit:// Still no crash since turning on LOD Streaming. Still, wouldn't call it a solution, just a workaround.
(07.09.14) edit:// Problem seems to have vanished completely, at least for me, as long as I keep on LOD-Streaming. No more warp-related crashes or massive frame drops.
The LOD streaming thing doesn't fix the problem it just reduces it. I still get hte lag after being logged in for hours. But.... it crashes a whole lot less. Just wanted to say this is a workaround not a solution. A workaround I'm happy with, until I crash on an S rank.... which happened.
I had this issue on my nvidia card and it was fixed with a driver update. I don't have the problem (yet) on my amd card.
Still getting this issue to some extent. It's not as common as before since the LOD thing but I noticed this thread is getting closer to its no activity point. Just hoping to keep activity alive until SE says -something-
I haven't done much hints sense my last report I'll try busting some out this weekend and see is in still having issues. P.s. What gives with the extreme long time between driver updates on AMD. Has anyone went through all the beta drivers one at a time sense the last official ones? Doing driver cleaner between each one? Just wondering hoping maybe there's one in there that may fix this stupid issue.
Just adding another to the list of people having troubles with this. Radeon HD 7850 on Windows 7 x64, 8gb RAM. Definately isn't an issue with my PC as I can run several other games on max without a single problem. It's isolated to FFXIV and several models of GPU; mostly people with AMD cards but there have been a few nVidia issues posted.
Interesting to note, since 2.35 I have gotten a different type of error. Occasionally, it will tab out and tell me there's been an unexpected error, but when I Alt-Tab back to the game window it's in a strange limbo world. All animations and effects are frozen, but you can zoom around and click on things (obviously, nothing happens). You can't do anything other than click "OK" on the error window, which will then shut the game down. Usually after that, it will not load up again (hangs on the transition between launcher and fullscreen ffxiv.exe) and needs to be soft rebooted...
No joy getting a response here, so perhaps we need to contact AMD if people haven't already.
Another Victim here as well; same problem as everyone else. Radeon HD 7800 on Windows 7x64, 32GB Ram. Updated drivers, tested HDD and Ram with no issues. None of my other games have issues just FFXIV.
Also a victim of this issue.

I get this issue if I am porting around a lot for Hunts. It tends to be as I'm porting, and will completely lag out and crash where ever I land. Sometimes if I sit still it will recover, but usually not.
I have not encountered the issue when running in 1920X1080 Resolution.
I will be trying the LOD settings, ty for that
I sometimes crash while teleporting or very rarely after killing a boss in ST.

This has occurred with me since launch. It is especially bad if I visit Revenant's Toll for more than 5 minutes or so. When I go to leave Mor Dhona, I inevitably crash.
