I find it so funny that people are so bent out of shape over this.

1. If you can not find anything else to do while they FIX something, if it is 1 hour or 5, then you really need a life outside the game.

2. If you are quitting because of maint/fixes/updates then go right ahead, less griefers to deal with in the game then when it is up.

3. If you can not understand what EMERGENCY means then just wow.... at least they are trying to fix whatever went wrong, which some games take weeks to get around to, then you sit in game and rage in shouts instead of forums because of whatever is not working correctly.

4. Granted, more notice would have been nice, but hey, deal with it. It is a game, it is not killing you, and if it is refer to number 1.

Wow! Thirty minutes after maintenance began and already ten pages of people complaining on the forums. This is amazing.

The internet is so fleeting... as soon as people can log back in, this thread will die, and everyone will get their FFXIV fix again. No one will complain... until another 'emergency maintenance' happens!

As for me, I'm just curious what could possible have warranted a five hour maintenance with less than 15 minutes notice. I seriously wonder what was broken, and I hope I find out.

why give a notice at all?

if they give us in coil or dungeons a message 13 min before the servers shut down,

Ok people, lets tell the whole community what the exploit or bug they found was before we go into maintenance so everyone can exploit it. The MMO is still only 6 months old, my how quickly people forget all of the problems games like WoW, FFXI, GW, SWG, EQ, and others had when they were first released. Leave it to the internet to be filled with trolls. If it is that detrimental to your existence that a video game is down for a few hours, you need to find other things to fill your time besides drinking Mountain Dew and eating Doritos in front of your computer (or PS3). You are all the same people demanding content, they give you content, then you complain about said content. The same content has a glitch because they cannot simulate 100k+ people using in every possible way because under a very specific circumstance a problem arises. They find the problem, and address it immediately and you complain.

To the OP, maybe you should put a disclaimer on your FC charter that this is a new game and maintenance will happen if you cannot deal with it, you need not apply. Maybe then you wouldn't have to deal with mass exodus. I have a feeling based on your post they are not leaving due to the maintenance, they are leaving because your FC is filled with whiny trolls like yourself.

Well there is currently two thing posted in this that elude to it.

Twintania is apparently double divebombing.

And people are being randomly kicked out of dungeons.

Both of which are very big problems. But until we know more we cant confirm if these are the actual cause.

I don't know, I just wish they'd fix their stuff once for all. All this maintenances (and they're really a lot) wouldn't be needed if they did things right to begin with. Myself, I've never seen a game with so many server stability problems (90k anyone?) and terrible bugs that require immediate maintenance (never seen an emergency maintenance that gave less then 30 mins to log out)...and all the other games I've played were f2p, so this says much.

Yes, I'm annoyed because I only missed a boss to complete daily roulette, and this way I only wasted time without reward. I'm annoyed because it's a day of playing missed, since when the servers will be back up (5 hours for an emergency maintenance? what are they doing, rewriting the whole code?) it will be time to sleep already. But it would be ok if it would really fix something...but the truth is it looks like everytime they do a maintenance they break more then they fix :/ And honestly...maybe they should just buy better servers <.<

I had no idea this game had so many IT experts. You guys should all band together and create the perfect MMO that would never need emergency maintenance and would always work without issue.

It's emergency maintenance because it was an unexpected occurrence requiring immediate action. At least they gave notice, even if it was only ten minutes, instead of just taking it offline at once and leaving people to wonder wtf was going on.

On a side note, this is the only game I play in my spare time and the maintenance downtime is hardly as bad as people are making it out to be.

Servers are unstable, constantly.
No other mmo's servers have ever been THIS bad so often, I know this through playing other mmo's myself, reading about this games functionality on this forum, other forums, people i know in game as well as in real life, this is far worse.

I'd understand more, if i wasnt being charged the SAME per month for a game that functions half as well as other titles. RIFT for example, is FREE and i have never, EVER been disconnected from that game even one time

Thisused to happen in FFXI, which i played on and off for about 8 years, the disconnect issue was in their last game as well.
Was always fun being in and intense battle and noticing your little green arrow in the top right slowly count down to zero.
Anyone else remember the almost FOUR DAY mantainance it had one time? FOUR DAYS straight the game was unplayable.

Actually the internet accepted definition of a white night is someone defending a woman they have never met on the internet in hopes of being rewarded (sex, nudes, Ect.)

This is the ONLY place I've seen it used differently.
