I'd be pretty happy if they add Viera now that I've looked into them some, honestly. I'd likely even use the Fantasia that I've saved up to do it.
Though as I've said in other threads: I'd still want new classes before new races.
The joke being that those are concept drawings for XI, which this games races be based on. Beastman is proto Galka, is proto Roegadyn.

The tarutaru and Galka went through the most changes and redesigns it seems.
I have two little tiny ideas:
Dwarfs: They are mentioned a few times, FFIII, I think, and FFIX for sure (the village right before you meet Eiko iirc). In both games, they are basically a short, Scottish stereotype and very strange little guys to boot. I think it would a little tie-in and a little invention/innovation. At the same time, Iae'v ne'er played a stinkin' dwarrf, and Iae cannae brring meself to do eet!
Robots (stay with me here): Cloud, Zidane/Vivi/Kuja, Cait Sith, etc etc (I'm sure there are more examples I can't think of right now), but autonomous puppet/clone/mechanical creations are a pretty common character device in FF. With the heavy emphasis on Magiteck in FFXIV I think that you could possibly wedge your way into a cyborg-esque race. One that might have some human and mechanical parts fused together. i.e. they might have something like an Ironman powersource that mimics their heart which players could customize the color/size. I dunno, my feelings towards that idea of mine are floating between, "That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard" and "That could work out pretty good and has a lot of potential."

haha 1 point to u both, Gwaeron and Gramul. it was early and i was still waking up when i responded to u guys.
no wonder those races look so familiar!! rofl. >.<
guess that will teach me to come to the forums right after getting out of bed!
What I wonder is how we can get a race from Ivalice.. Aren't for example Viera exclusive only to that world?
We have Mamool'ja, the Lighting Returns and other cross-over FATEs stablish that travel between dimensions is possible, so Squee can kind of pull whatever they feel like and still be "It's not a plot hole because DIMENSIONAL TRAVEL!". Introducing a whole "new" old race from another FF game wouldn't be hard at all. They can add an island off the coast (like La Noscea) and have their home there, then just say they arrived by DIMENSIONAL TRAVEL (tm) many centuries ago (or not so many centuries ago), left stranded in this weird but actually pretty familiar world. Or they can even ditch the whole "hometown" idea and just introduce them brutally like that: a portal opens, Viera (or whatever) appear, Eorzeans are super cool with that and that's that.
I guess I'm just the only person who gets bored seeing the same races and the same monsters over and over again. :/ Would just like to see something new. Why pull in races from other planets when we have two whole other continents on Hydaelyn to mess around with?
Why is everyone so gung ho for viera? Half of our player base is already human/fuzzy animal hybrids which is already ridiculous. Give us viera then it'll just be a joke. We need something that isn't a humanoid with fuzzy ears.
I'm guessing people are just kind of expecting it because of Q2 of the fourth player poll, http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/46936 (Why people voted like they did... no idea, maybe the other options were too boring for a lot of people?)
The mammalian demi-beastman category would probably get much fewer votes if he hadn't used viera as an example race...
That tail and those feet remind me of Blade and Soul's Lyn.

I'm not opposed to something entirely new to Eorzea at all, but where this something is undefined, it's hard to say if I'd back it or not. With the Viera, they're something I know and can therefore confidently back.
To be honest, I'm a miqo'te because I was informed that I would be by my gf. If Viera had have been the option at the beginning, I would have opted for that over the cat folks (mostly because I loved Fran). I guess the crux of it for me is that I would be playing one of the fuzzy eared folks one way or another, either by being told or by choice.
Amusingly I was an Elvaan back in FFXI and swore that they were the only race for me. They almost were again in XIV, but well... I'm a sucker for my gf's pouty face. :P
I feel ya. I understand the appeal and all. I started out male miqote and I actually loved the character model except for one tiny thing that bugged me soo bad: That freaking weird rigor mortis position their right hands are stuck in. Maybe se was going for a paw type position, but it just looks weird to me. Especially since it\\'s only the one hand. The rest of their body is in a normal relaxed position except the one weird hand that is always clenched and contorted. Lol that and the sheer number of people that play miqote convinced me to use my fantasia to become the master race. ; P
I think there should be cross racess before any new races are introduced. There are already cross races in eorzea so it only makes sense lore wise.
I just wonder how many people would go viera as soon as they came out. This game is gonna start looking like a petting zoo. X.x
While I'm not particularly against Viera aesthetically, I wouldn't want them around: we alredy have a race to tick the "human with animal features" checkbox. Thematically speaking, you will have two races being too similar to each other. It would be okay if the theme of Eorzea was "people with animal traits", but that isn't the case (as evidenced by every other race, which are also quite distinct from each other).
I'd prefer a playable beast-tribe to have some greater visual variety in characters. It's a bit hard to come with anything else, though, because all the archetypes are already covered by the vanilla races: Roes are the big, strong guys, Lalas are the cute department personified, Elezen are tall and slender, humans are basic and Miqo'te are the animal feature race.
Actually, scratch that. You know what we don't have? DWARVES. Like, proper dwarves with very long beards. And no, lalas don't count: they are more like gnomes rather than proper dwarves.
I'm for Chocolinas
http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2.../Chocolina.png
Give the catgirls some birdgirls to play together ^^
I was with you until I saw that hat. It looks like a dead bird, or one of those rubber chickens.
Lol. I wonder if I am the only person who thinks the game's races are fine as they are. If anything I would just like for more customization options (Hair, armor, etc.) for what we do have.
I'm pretty much of the mind that we've gotten a pretty good array of different races and traits, with the exception of beastial races, but those are covered by the beast tribes of which we cannot play. Either way, I'll continue to shake my head at the implementation of Viera. There isn't a whole lot that separates them from Miqo'te, visually -- it feels uninspired to me in the face of having a feline race with similar things.
I'm more or less satisfied with the race choices - though I'll admit that I was a bit disappointed to learn that all five races were being recycled from FFXI. That said, if indeed new races ARE going to be added, it's fun to speculate as to what they will be.
It's also tricky to imagine just what they could do to make a new race that is distinct enough from the current races to be recognizably different while not looking completely inhuman. While it might be fun to play as beastmen, there's clearly a beastman/non-beastman divide in the storyline; even in the case of allied beasttribes, it is clear that it is still a case of "us and them", with all the five player races are lumped into "us". Even when NPCs in-game are prejudiced against other player races (such as the rivalry between Duskwight and Wildwood Elezen), never is it suggested that they are not part of "us", just that they are a very crappy part of "us".
Whether this beastman/non-beastmand divide is due to discrimination on both sides, or if there's something cosmologically fundamental involved (in FFXI, for instance, the player races were explicitly created by one of the two major gods, while the Beastmen were made by the other with the express intent of creating conflict), this divide does exist. If SE were to introduce a new, blatantly inhuman race, it'd be tough to explain why they are considered part of the collection of humans, rather than part of the colleciton of Beastmen.
That said, what more can they do to the "human" look that hasn't already been done? We've got little people. We've got big people. We've got willowy, pointy-ear people. We've got normal people, in both slender and stocky varieties. And, we've got people with animal bits. Making people with DIFFERENT animal bits is easy: add horns for Pad'jal, add dragon wings and tail for Gria, add deer/rabbit ears, graceful legs, and tail for Viera, etc. A new modification on the human archetype is tough to imagine, though, without coming up with something more creepy than endearing.
Not exactly final fantasy, and i dont know if anyone remembers the crystal chronicle games, but yukes would be kind of neat. Idk what they would do about the helmet thing though.

i would love to see unicorn humanoids.

I'm all for Viera male and females. And of course any onther race that have been posted here (Dragon people) :O.
If they add Viera I demand this silky long hair:

Didn't they say something about some dragon/repitillian type race.
what wrong in want to choose something different of us
and why is playing a different race(miqote or viera) mean we zoophila or any of those ....It's a game it's not like we will do stuff with it in real.
we just like different stuff
and what about those we buy a dog or a cat ..those that make them like that ...they are playing with the dog right ...like we are playing with our character ? but atleast our dog we dont make him die many time XD but its the same point :P
Some couple dont want kids and get cat/dog ...is it wrong??? cat and dog aint humain race why they choose an animal ? are they zoophila ??
Male vieras! Make it happen people!
my one concern with them making the Viera a playable race is the hairstyles they choose to develop for them. We all know how SE feels about adding really long hairstyles to this game, and viera are known for their super long luscious locks.
i would really love viera to be it, but im afraid they will give them short hair(a little past the shoulders and shorter) like all other races in the game. and that just wouldn't do it for me. i mean, fran is the reason i fell in love with the viera, her pony tail was frickin AWESOME. i wonder if hoping for viera WITH their crazy hair is too much to hope for. that being said, im aware there are quite a few viera with short hair in past games so... of course i expect short ones too...
I just want to be able to make my Miqo'te a fox instead of a cat. Past that, y'all can have whatever you want, I'll be happy.
You.. do know.. that is the BLM PVP armor right? I mean.. in the actual full picture (one not cropped) this is clearly shown... right? Can't imagine a race fitting into that? Well try harder lol
All the Frontline armors are based on animals:
Pld: Lion
War: Bear
Blm: Fox
Sch: Reindeer
whm: Swan

As for Viera? (From Producer Letter 5)
Q38: In terms of new races, what kind of races are you looking into and will mixed races be introduced?
A38: I don’t think we’ll have mixed races for a while. Since it seems like Viera is popular around the world we have been proactively looking into this, but since having a rabbit male might be kind of weird, maybe we’ll look into having a separate race for the male counterpart.
That is exactly what i was talking about. But since you did post the other Sets, please check out the anatomic measurements of them. You can lay them above of each other and they 100% FIT, the only exception is the Fox-Set. There is also the MRD Set and the DRG Set, which is not on the pictures you have posted. Upper right is MNK "Hawk". But that is beside the actual Point.. the Problem is not the "Animal themed" Gear, its the anatomy of the Models SE used to present them.
You can check ALL the existing Concept Shots for Gear from FFXIV ARR and NONE of them have similiar measurements than the Fox-Gear, regardless of which Race SE was using. The Fox-Set is oustanding and totally out of Place if you go by the actual anatomic measurements of the current Races and No... none of the existing Gear does change your Shape/Form/Size.. also the other PvP sets also do not do that. No.. i am not talking about the fancy hat.. not at all <.<
The most obvious part are the heels.. let aside that those kind of models currently does not exist in FFXIV, they are simply not fitting the Female Races. You cant introduce heels like that without highly changing the animations for said Characters or it will look straight stupid, let aside that those "heels" seem to be the perfect Match for Viera feets..
I think this is a case of wanting to see what isn't there.
Case in point: We have lalafell in the game yes? Find me armor concept that are drawn with the lalafell body in mind? You might find.. maybe one? But I don't remember seeing anything beyond the draft for the racial armor or concept for specific npc or the race itself. I don't think I've ever seen any armor concept like pvp/dungeon/etc drawn with that multi positional view for lalafell.
Why? It's disproportionate. It makes it quite difficult to make a universal mesh/texture for armor to fit on other races. They use these longer/taller bodies to get all the details in the concept to go to digital production. This is why the Crafting armor, AF armor, AF2 Armor, Dungeon armor, Pvp armor concepts are all done on what looks like either Midlander body types.
But let's take a closer look:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...22/compare.jpg
As you can see it all pretty much exactly lines up to the other caster armor. Is it a bit bulkier? in some places yes, but it also doesn't have the thick/poofier sections some of the other armors have. The one part is the feet. Those strange anthropomorphic looking feet! well here you go:
http://img.webmd.com/dtmcms/live/web...from_heels.jpg
High heels without the stiletto added. This would also explain why the foot is longer on the blm than the sch one, it is walking on the front of the foot/toes.
I don't really see anything that screams confirmation on another race. Just an armor that was so masterfully done, it makes you think so. And isn't that the point of them? To convince you that you are that animal?
I want a Viera race as an option for a pretty, lanky male (why must all the males in the game be buff?) because reasons. :x
I would love to see Vieras appear in the game! I would probably wait a couple of months though before possibly changing into one if it happened. I ALREADY went through fantasia remorse. >_>
Padjal would be a very nice class because number one their forest related number to they could bring in some very good skills and all of the naysayers saying they are the perfect holy race they can bring their racism somewhere else but as far as for the story plot why put races in there when you cannot play them
