I paid $1,000 for my PC, a $400 console is not going to come close

Not really seeing much of a difference between PC and PS4.
Think this topic is done, people are just repeating at this point.
PS4 is an improvement.
But! It does not trump PC.
^
That's been stated like mad and OP is no where to be found. Let it go guys.
OP is playing on a 1985 Magnavox TV.
I am not going to get in this pc versus console debate.
I am curious if the OP is upset by the ps4 graphics is a: direct comparing to a ps3? b. using a tv/monitor/crt (gasp) that is not able to display ps4 graphics correctly? Are they using HDMI or analog AV output? c. they were expecting life like holodeck images in 3d (NOTHING worse that expectation letdown)?
The GPU in a ps4 is a respectable piece of hardware, the down fall appears to be the shared memory. never been a fan of that.
Before you children escalate this into a further Console Vs. PC war, keep in mind that it was SE who claimed the PS4 would appear as Ultra on PC and run at a minimum of 30fps going up to 60fps. Playing for 10 minutes you can quite clearly tell it's not running at 60 let alone 30 and it looks terrible in comparison to ultra.
I'll keep playing on my PC as SE seem incapable of being honest.
It is funny see that most people forgets that comparisons have to be made with things of almost equal value.
Comparing a 400$ hardware (PS4) with a 1000+$ hardware (PC capable to running at highest settings) is just pure garbage talk.
Compare the PS4 with a 400$ PC and then you people can go back here telling us the results.
PS4 version likened to PC on highest settings, Framerate achieves 60, occasionally drops, all physics present, no limitations on on-screen characters.
No console game that shares a PC port will ever look better on console. But then again that's not the reason you buy a Console, is it?
Why are people so stupid.
I play the game on the pc, with everything maxed and it runs perfect smooth and looks beautiful, and this on a cheaper system than a PS4, the new Kaveri APU from AMD is incredibly cheap and a powerhouse for the budget conscious gamer, highly recommend it.
I downloaded the PS4 beta last night and the game looks gorgeous in 1080p on my telly. I've got a decent gaming pc too, but don't tend to ever set that up in the living room so the benefit of having FFXIV on the PS4 is immense. If anything I've noticed a level of detail on the PS4 version that I hadn't on the pc - mostly due to using a 42" over my normal screen. Got a decent alienware so the pc isn't a slouch by any means, but at least so far on the PS4 the load times are much shorter. I'm sure if I timed it, it'd be a matter of seconds, but it is a noticeable improvement over the version I use on the pc. I've similarly been impressed with the shadow effects, general crispness of the characters etc. as well.
I think the PS4 version will be more than sufficient for people that have that system and want to play FFXIV.
I'm currently testing the dual-shock controller out to see if I can get my head around it. I'll probably look out a keyboard and mouse and try that too to see how they compare to each other. I have to admit I've been impressed with the use of the touchpad on the DS4 controller - it's good to see it get some use!
With the game being playable on pc and ps4 I will be able to chop and change as necessary if the mrs wants the tv of an evening. :D
This topic is still going i see. Interesting.
Ah no. You will get very low frame rate at 1080p. You likely have to play at 720p to get acceptable framerates. Unless you're buying discrete GPU that's $200+ with that kaveri APU, the PS4 APU is faster.
GPU:
The best kaveri APU, A10-7850K, has 512 cores. Compute performance of 0.86 Tflops.
The PS4 APU has 1152 cores. Compute performance of 1.8 Tflops
With using APU on PC you're stuck with slower DDR3 memory, PS4 uses GDDR5 memory.
A10-7850K APU is even slower than xbox one APU.
CPU wise it's harder to tell which is faster, however PS4 has access to low level API. On a PC you have to hope Mantle takes off to alleviate CPU bottlenecks.
Here's benchmark running, not even at highest settings, with A10-7850K APU and it's very choppy at 1080p.

The misinformation being spread that PCs are ridiculously expensive is disheartening. A 600~700$ (including the OS, RAM, PSU in price) PC will probably run this game better than the PS4 and the PC is mid-ranged. You don't need a high end PC for a game that doesn't even support DX11 features (yet). For a $400 console, the quality looks good. I've heard the frame rate is very inconsistent but it's an MMO. What can you expect? Visually, if it wasn't on par with the PC version, I'd be disappointed. This game isn't taxing on the GPU, it's the CPU that's probably the bottleneck here.
I dunno about that. Seems to run and look just fine. Actually I was impressed they were able to pull PC High settings I think with a much much much more stable fps than my laptop high settings that I needed to set the 30fps cap due to massive judder.
Also my family was quite amazed how good it looked... but cannot wait to see their looks with FFXV
Depends on your laptop's specs. Chances are the PS4 is much more powerful than your laptop unless you're running a 780M/Intel combo (incredibly expensive) which is only slightly more powerful than the Ps4. If the PS4 is a lot better than your PC set up, by all means play it on PS4. My fam plays on PS3 and I tell them it'll look exactly like mine (PC) when the PS4 ver comes out. They're definitely excited and it is most certainly an improvement over the PS3 version.
If you're playing on Max settings with a smooth ~50fps like me at 1920x1080 yea, the Ps4 is a step backwards. I for one was actually impressed at how well defined the Ps4 version is.
Why I play on PS3 and will on PS4... As a sysadmin I deal with computers most every day. So when I get home or on the weekends I DON'T want to deal with:
a) Windows issues(updates and other crap) at home(all my machines at home are Linux based), anti virus, licensing etc...
b) Driver updates
c) Hardware issues beyond plug and play
d) BS DRM tech that companies include in their PC games
So I come home, go for a walk, eat lunch, power up my playstation and play. No dealing with this needs updating, that needs fixing, antivirus, etc... etc... etc... crap. And yes I can build my own PC and manage it and update and all that crap... but I do that at work. I'll enjoy my free time the way I want to and those of the PC master race variety can enjoy their free time the way they want. So yeah really tired of the whole "This is the only way to do it everything else is crap etc..."
While I haven't played the game on either PS3 or PS4, I still think it can be much more fun, gameplay wise. I'm used to the keyboard controls, and I would miss them, but honestly, I think it would make moving the camera and stuff much more convenient and intuitional.
As for the graphics; the PS4 is a beast when it comes to graphics, or at least that's what I gathered from what I've seen so far - however, a high end PC will always have a better performance. Mine is 'good', not the best, but the game runs smoothly and is very pretty; I'm still in awe seeing sunrises and sunsets and overall lighting in Eorzea.
If you're going to complain about the quality of the PS4 version, compare it to the PS3 version, not the PC version.
Also, sorry if this is off-topic, but I was wondering if I'm going to get the rewards from the PS4 collectors edition if I upgrade my account (PC) to a Collectors Edition now? You know, the fattie Chocobo mount. I'm unsure if I would get it when I upgraded now.
From what I can tell, the PS4 version is the definitive version. It can be streamed to a Vita portable device and the touchpad on the DS4 controller can be used like a pointer giving it an advantage over other controllers while keyboard and mouse are also supported.
As a healer, i doubt i could have the same performance with a controller that i have with a keyboard and mouse, and even if i can use the kb/mouse combo on the Ps4, it doesnt allow me to use my Belkin n52e, which i find essential to playing these types of games.
Skimming thru this thread made me realize that gamers can be such assholes to one another. Why people get into measuring contest with one another over this kinda crap is beyond me if its a game you enjoy who gives a crap about how another persons version looks or what you play it on.
The point of the PS4 version is to upgrade from the PS3. And It clearly does so. Ps4 version can be comparable to the PC version. But it all depends on the PC hardware.
I am in a similar situation, although I do still enjoy games on my PC.
However I wouldn't consider dropping my PS3/PS4 to go completely PC simply because there is too much good stuff on consoles that won't see the light of day on a PC. Last of Us, Uncharted and Beyond Two Souls are all games I loved in the last gen and whilst good games appear on consoles, I'll keep console gaming as well.
There do seem to be a lot of people who consider themselves of the "PC Master Race" who seem very anti-PS4 and I just put it down to all the other fanboi fights I've seen in my life from the C64 vs. Spectrum days, through to the Amiga vs Atari ST, Megadrive vs Super Nintendo and even these days with Playstation (insert version 1-4 here) and the various flavours of XBOX.
Some people really don't like that others can enjoy something different.
At the end of the day, my PS4 is looking great playing this and I'm not seeing a disadvantage to having this version. It's the same game at the end of the day...
I like using mouse/keyboard but the ps4 doesn't have a way to improve mouse cursor speed from what I can tell. Cursor lag on the ps4 version is frustrating me... Thank god for hotkeys!
First off, the PC version's graphics engine is newer than 3 years since they scrapped the old one and are using a new one. Second, a 3 year old PC is still better than the PS4. Also, you mention why would anyone buy the PS4 version? That question would also apply to the PS3 version. It look atrocious compared to the PS4 and PC versions, yet still has hundreds of thousands playing on it. People don't play a console for the best graphics, they play console for the ease of use. PS4 version will sell just fine.Quote:
Remember the PC version is THREE YEARS old. Three YEARS. The PS4 version is not even one year old yet (since the start of development). Why should it not be on par with the PC version, if not surpass it?
Frame rate: acceptable : did fates with multiple PCs and NPCs no notice of fps drop
Graphics: acceptable: AA seems to be off or very low: shadow quality med: i expect these will be turned up in further phases
vs PC: equal to PC on graphic settings desktop standard
able to play on large TV: awesome
overall:highly acceptable
I wish console games, specially these, would allow us to adjust the settings at least a little. It wouldve made the PS3 a whole lot more playable for me if I could tone down the graphics quality to get better FPS. Way better on PS4 but id still like to play with the settings to try and get more FPS. There are a few effects I prefer disabled anyway (Bloom, Motion Blur to name two).
Firstly, I wonder if DX11 is in beta. And lastly this guy the op couldn't wait to hate on the console. Also you really think square doesn't care if people upgrade. If 90%. Of people stay on ps3 there wouldn't be any reason to drop it, and that will get this game left behind by new mmo's otw that will be next-generation only.
Let's not forget the ps4 is ” new hardware” always takes years for developers to fully get every but of performance out of a new console.
