Titanic Sawfish

If you still haven't caught it (which I highly doubt), you could try catching some Silver Sovereign HQ at night and then back to trying for the Sawfish during the day ^^ That should ease the burden.

Nothing but some bait, really. The navigator's brand is needed also after you turn in the Sawfish, and it's just as hard to catch it seems. It doesn't require double mooching but I've been fishing for hours each day and haven't seen it bite.

EDIT: Apparently, looking at my journal you get 3 tomato pies (Decent gathering food), a choice of a stack of bait, and 1,220 gil. Also, before someone asks, no, it isn't a pre-req for a more important quest either. :(

You get an achievement and title for completing the quest, as well.

Took a while but I finally got lucky yesterday. Caught it around 10:30AM sunny weather using rat tails (with the double mooch of course)
Some people said rat tails have better luck, so I tried them. Could just be a coincidence but using the minnow only got me silver sharks.

Regarding Navigator's brand - I was fishing it after I had gotten my forager's rod so I was at 332 gathering but i STILL had one get away. Eventually after 2 days of going at it I got it. It was definitely a lot less painful than the titanic saw.

Finally caught this guy after about a week of trying. Late morning (10-11) using rat tails.

I was so excited I didn't get a screenshot but that's what the log and puush are for. xD

I finally caught mine after melding a lot of materia. Ended up with 292 gathering and 263 perception before food then caught it on the 5th cast after weeks and weeks of no success.

I tried to catch it having HQ fisher gear with no melds months ago. After about an hour of no luck decided that maybe I should gear up a bit and returned to my sawfish hunt month later having about 300 gathering and 260 perception - 4th or 5th lugworm started mooch chain that resulted in titanic sawfish. Brought it in for quest reward and went for navigator's brand - after 1 hour I had the "The Ambitious Angler" title.

Now I just am mad at myself for using Silver Sovereigns to get hat (though I do understand that without it I couldn't get Forager miner and botanic tools as fast as I did) because they don't drop for me anymore. Have spent a lot more time trying to get 20 hq Sovereigns than it took to get sawfish.

I got mine within an hour. 11:30 am, sunny weather, Goby Ball (bit cannibalistic).

Caught mine a few days ago after 2 serious attempts at it.

Clear day, around 11-11.30am. My gear is nothing special, HQ AF and the 50 rod the class quest gives. Didn't use any food at all.

Took me a week @.@ then got the Brand next game day. That was waaay easier

Took me an hour i was lucky. The brand took a couple of hours :)

selling the fish is still more profitable then desynthing it, even if you would get a mc demi every 3rd try
fish sells for 300k here and mc demi for 700k

First try at this, I didn't have the proper melds to get gathering up high enough and failed. Once I fixed myself, I arrived a bit early and caught HQ bait around 7am. Instead of mooching right away, I held it until 9am. Shortly after 9am, I cast mooch and bam, first cast catch.

Trying to get this fish as a Lv60 Fisher with 494 Gathering and 443 Perception... and I cannot get this fish. Not to mention the wait I have to endure because of the cloudy weather.

I keep getting the Silver Shark when I get the mooch chain going, I really hate this RNG crud. Sadly there's none on the MB on my server so I'm stuck trying to catch it on my own and even with my high stats I keep having the "fish gets away" message at the end which is ridiculous. I would think this would be easier at Lv60 with such stats, but nope.

I like fishing, but I hate this part of it the most as I'm trying to complete the Quest for it. Doesn't help that the weather works against you either... bloody had clear skies up to 8am and then it switches to fog.

I give up.

are you saying you are waiting FOR cloudy weather or you are waiting for another weather because it's always cloudy? c.c,, because, you can't catch the titanic sawfish while cloudy weather.

but this is really one of the easier fish. especially at lvl 60 with HQ buffs.

I said I had to WAIT because of the cloudy weather, mean if the time is correct but the weather isn't I have to wait even LONGER to get the right weather. I hate this part of the fishing... the RNG is bad enough. That's why I like Miner and Botaonist the most at least you have control over what you're going for instead of praying that you get the item you want from RNG.

lol yeah, titanic sawfish looks like a cakewalk against feast of feamine xD got the whole catch "1000 times in lvl 50 fishing points in black shroud" just while i was hunting namitaro. and that's one of the easier fish in this quest xD

fishing is all RNG. i have seen a dozen people ranting about the sawfish. my advise: it only gets worse. if you hate fishing the sawfish the fisher is probably not the class for you.

I like to fish for fun, not for challenge. I like to do something relaxing for a bit and get some items for my Crafting classes to use. I find this ridiculous even with Level 60 gear, skills, and stats. I thought it would be a little easier to do with high stats and skills.

I'm going to keep at it still, I will hook this fish one way or another... and I snagged another Pirate's Bane fish while typing this. Why?

Sigh, back to waiting again.
