I can't really comment on this being an issue as my patches always go rather quickly but considering the ammount of complainst the system receives they may want to go back to the old Direct download style patches at least until the game has enough users to support a torrent style patch, or they find a way to work around ports that people generally have blocked.

You guys are crying over the patcher on patch day. If you guys were infact as smart as you claim. That patch day = congestion. Really try waiting or don't cry. But there is nothing SE can do to fix what is not broken. That patcher isn't the issue it is the tons of people trying to dl the thing. Wait or don't just don;t cry foul because you have no control.

What I said about you comment was a general statement I never addumed it was directed at me.

This is what they should do, but I am assuming the reason they have not is due to cost. Direct download can be expensive. And SE are not the friendliest of people to allow other people to host them. (Zam tried but told to stop).

I infact even stated it isn't anyone connection or internet that is bad either. It is just they got an unlucky play in line. I gave a good example of it think of 100K people filing into an irish pub. some will get in fast some gotta wait. It is just how lucky you are. But if you wait a day or two there woould be little to no congestion and have a smooth patch dl and upload. My game install and dl took and hour because of the several patches. Then the patch before this one was about 30 min. Due to admin blocking and having to restart it. I did the patch about 2 days after and had no issues with the patcher. If it was infact the patcher with the issue. I would have had an issue. So explain and give proof on how it is the patcher and not the congestion that is the issue?

SE wants people to use their patcher for a reason, if everyone would use it like they are supposed to, there would be fewer download problems. I am like a good number of others, I download perfectly fine, this patch for instance only took me 20 mins. I could care less if it took 3 hours though, I dont sit here and watch the patcher, I do other stuff.

Should I link you back to my post proving that "patch day /= congestion"? You've been proven wrong, and yet you're still arguing the idea that 1) this is how every MMO operates and that 2) it's therefore acceptable to wait days to play. The first is demonstrably wrong, numerous examples have been posted disproving your theory, and that removes the stepping stone entirely to the second.

I was asking for it to stop once and for all. And ask people to try and get to know the real me. "Not the me they made me out to be. So no. I wasn't holding a grudge I was asking for it to stop. There is infact a difference.

Pretty much you (not literally) insult me i will get mad. As in my mind I'm being friendly and trying to help. I get smacked around like a "red headed step child" (south park ftw) Or I just simply give my 2 cents and either agree or disagree. People will insult me even though I agree'ed with them I simply can not win. And I feel this needs to stop. The mods need to step in and start getting on the people who are starting with me because it is infact a form of cyber bullying. Why should I get introuble for other peoples insults. TL;DR

Most people with fast connections and pathetic official patcher download speeds do report getting 0 remote connections, even when not firewalled. Of those, the ones who after having the official patcher failing sadly and inexcusably use an external torrent client to download the patch usually get it at max connection speed.

Today was patch day for Rift also, did an 80meg patch in about 2 min. I assure you, they have a thousand fold more traffic. BTW, I started at the same time I started FF's today.....but FF took almost an hour.

P2P will always be slow with the seed : peer ratio, just the way it is. OFC their client is terribad, uTorrent capped around 500k after more seeds were available. Still took 30min for 300MB though ... but not as bad as it could have been.

I get 0 remote with (hardware) ports forwarded and no windows firewall enabled with this silly patcher.

*edit* least with a client, you can seed while playing after. Just make sure its not 100% of your UL bandwidth ^.~

I can confirm this.

Rift's patch is 65mb, and SE's is 328mb, so XIV's current is roughly five times the size of Trion's latest. Rift's took me under a minute, which means XIV's should theoretically be done in five. XIV's took me pressing an hour as well. Now, Rift currently has a larger base than XIV, and Trion is a far smaller company than SE.

Yes, this is something that SE could fix. Some people might be stuck in the past of waiting days for a patch to download, but that's entirely avoidable in this day and age, and not an industry standard.

I assure you it's not caused by lack of peers. My guess is SE is doing some sort of dumb region based peer filtering i.e. they might be limiting your potential peer downloads to only a few people in your area.

A regular torrent client will exchange peer info with others regardless of what the tracker decides so they can't stop you from downloading from everyone around the world.

I tried. People made comments on my post count or the fact I didn't play. I've been nice to people. No one is nice to me. I do not type well and I'm hated for it. I never till recently presently myself in anything being claimed. This is from people skimming or failing to ask for understanding. I've been open about my disability and no one wants to cut me some slack on how hard it is for me to type. Or that I'm on the ps3 and admited i have limited text room. I have a positive thread about how if the bruins can win SE can turn this game around if we acted like fans and support it. It is funny how often I come across a comment on this forum about someone who knows a programmer or saw one on a movie once, trying to pass off second or third hand information from some source we are supposed to believe is reliable because you used them in an argument to prove a point.

If it matters, I am a programmer. I have been designing games and software for nearly 15 years and even though I have never designed a MMORPG updater, it is my personal and professional opinion that the FFXIV updater is without question, the worst updater I have ever used and should never have made it to a released product. Take of it what you will as my opinion is obviously biased by the fact that even though I have a high speed connection, and ports forwarded correctly (I shouldn't even have to do that) every other MMORPG I play from FFXI, to WoW or LOTRO, update quickly and without issue, and FFXIV gets stuck at 0.0 KB for ages.

Because people are complaining about a patcher when that isn't the issue. It is the congestion of everyong trying to patch at the same time. So really who needs who's brain checked? >.>

I got the brains to not try to patch same day knowing there will be congestion. Try it sometime. :) instead of acting like a spolied rich kid who can't control everything with money.

it isn't anyones net or the patcher. But the fact that too many people are patching at the same time. People think the patcher sucks for trying to patch it on patch day.

Not mjy fault people feel my advice isn't worth their effort. Though I am proud that people "like" this game enough to complain over a slow patcher.
