Finally, someone who played something else, not only WoW "Arena". So many pvp "experts" nowadays...
Looks like devs was aiming at DAoC playstyle (hard to tell if that's a good idea with arena and only 4 people in group with locked roles).
I heard nothing about lowering damage at PvP (except Morale, which should increase damage aswell, according to patchnotes). And with that who'll survive double Swiftcast+Flare from 2 assisting BLMs? Monk? Bard? Doubt it.
At pvp with high output damage, casters - main threat. If they can easly cast and 3-4 hit-kill mostly targets - then noone ever will play physical damagers.
On top of that casters has a TON of CC with separate diminishing return - sleep, knockback, stun(Ifrit, you are usefull! Swiftcast+Holy=win), root, heavy. Each effect can be placed on target 3 times in the row. And there is only one purge-like ability - Purify. On 2.5 minutes CD dispells any control effect. So it will be "Sleep! Oh, you purified? Swiftcast+Sleep! Now wait here for next 10 seconds and let me ravage your healer". It will be CC based battles (and with fights 4 vs 4 it will be really fast fights). Whoever cought enemy in sleep first - won.
Except devs forgot to mention that they actually created CC immunity system.
That's on start. No info on Morale bonus to damage reduction/damage boost, so hard to predict what will happpen at high ranked battles. It can appears that at full morale set physics can survive mage's harassment long enough. Then mages are toasts.
So, stop whinning before patch ever applied.
