The crystal tools wasn't even ready at the time, not to mention the huge pproblems SE had while developing it, causing XIII and versus to be delayed for the longest time.
XI's resources and manpower were cut considerably after the second half of 2007. Look there for the real dev time. -

Don't forget that anima/teleportation is a form of transportation in itself. That's not to say it's a true substitute for a for mounts system, but it is an incredibly generous system and I'm genuinely thankful for it.

I can put a negative system on the anima system because I feel like due to warping with anima all the time, they new we wouldn't walk around as much and hence made the world a bore. I understand your frustrations. I've been waiting just as long, I bought the CE, I was let down at release as well. And yeah, 1.18 is probably a final straw for me. If they don't seriously pull something out of their hats, I'll look elsewhere until the game is so beyond fixed that I'm surprised. But at the same time, I try to stay optimistic about how good 1.18 will be, and the other changes this summer if 1.18 manages to make me happy. I just think the bickering about whether or not it was 5 years or 2.5 years got out of hand, and that at this point there's nothing we can do except wait it out and hope for the best Chocobo system we could get. I HOPE Cardaies (my apologies if I spelled that wrong) is right. But right now, even though I'm itching for chocos as well, my main problem is the lack of being able to be social with my LS during a group, not getting from Ul'Dah to Gridania on a chicken. I'm hoping to see a boost in players too, but I think that will come with the PS3 release more than anything else.
