You'll need it again someday. Afking in game is bad for everyone.
Wow. I am shocked that it's being removed! The tax on the servers from all the AFK people.. I'd rather keep the auto log-out feature and reduce the server's detection from 0.3 seconds to 0.1 seconds...
If we could get both.... that would be even better!
Big yes to removing it. There was no point in having it considering how easy it is to bypass it. I also wouldn't even call it a feature, because it was just annoying and seriously not the root of the log-in issues ARR had on launch. As long as I cannot keep track of LS/FC chat outside of the game, I will afk at times and go over it afterwards. No more going into a synth just to stay logged in.
YAY fantastic :) Although can override it by staying in crafting menu
Oh I'm pretty much expecting something like this.
Oh god please no. I do not want to have to check dozens of Bazaars in a corner of the map where everyone hangs out for their Bazaar. Use the AH and lets keep this easy for everyone.
I don't know how many remember it but you could that is can turn off the auto logout feature on Final Fantasy 11 to those who played it you could either send a predetermined time up to 90 minutes or just turn off the feature completely and there was no doomsday scenarios as these people are saying happened Personally I was able to log on all the time I always had mine off cause I didn't too be auto disconnected, not the auto logout was a big things I know but it wouldn't bother me much what they should, in my opinion, do is make it like FF 11 where and you can set the time or turn it off completely.
this makes me a happy bunny... er... cat :D
oh I agree I always turned it off so I found a pain having been disconnected because I left for X amount of time. it is good because as others have said it's easy to bypass just do something makes the server recognize you as being active and not just standing still.
RIP legacy servers, there's already long wait times during prime time. With an influx of players and character parking this is really going to suck.
People can now transfer off legacy servers.
why do you need to stay logged in when you arent actively doing something anyways? the game only kicks you to the start menu it takes whopping 1 minute for even the slowest PS3 to log back in after an auto kick. the servers are stressed enough as it is without people needlessly taking up space when they are doing approximately nothing
stupid idea is stupid
Excalibur queues are frequently less than one minute, even during peak hours. Only exception is Mondays, since the certainly not incompetent brain trust over at the XIV dev team somehow thought placing all the resets on Monday was anything but the dumbest possible idea ever. And that's not changing with or without auto logout.
Waste of resources removing this, along with increasing server-strain whether it's an issue or not. It's far different then 11's complete play online disconnect that took forever to log back in, this simply kicks you to start screen.
Here's what puzzles me: Why are people upset about getting kicked off of the game for literally not paying attention to their client for 30 minutes and 20 seconds? They obviously weren't paying attention to the game to care about keeping themselves active in the first place.
What's so important about staying logged in for that extended period of time? It's not like you won't be able to get back in after you're kicked out. The entire point is to reduce the existence of hour-long queues like we experienced at launch.
Secondly, it only kicks out out to the start screen. You get to enjoy the nice End of an Era video when you come back from your trip off to who-knows-where.
Please enlighten me why it's such a problem to have to go "click, click" to get back into the game after waking up from your nap, or leaving your house, or socializing with friends or family. I'm actually finding it hilarious that someone possibly rages every time they come back to their computer to find the "Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn" title screen. I'm imagining the scenario like this: "Aaaah, that was nice. I'm rested up and ready to go. Time for some Garu-- WHAT THE **** IS THIS?! WHY THE **** DID IT KICK ME OUT TO THE TITLE SCREEN? **** IT I ****ING HATE SQUARE ENIX."
Well, we can't do this yet in XIV:ARR, but back in XI and other games I would sometimes afk in certain places and read a book or take a nap listening to the music that played in those areas. Sadly, until ARR adds continuous looped music in areas this isn't much of an option. But I still don't mind afking in a spot and being able to come right back to what I left off doing when I get back.
I get what you're saying, and no it isn't much time at all to log back in from the start screen, but it's still some time that could be spent doing something else. Also, FC or LS might have had a pretty interesting conversation while I was afk or someone sends me a tell, I would likely want to respond back. If you get disconnected you can't even be aware that such things took place and I dunno about you but I don't want to make someone think I'm ignoring them by not answering them.
Not much todo in ARR so I usually play other games in windowed mode, leaving windowed ARR in background. Other game's window covers center, but I see ARR chat on one side and invite icon on other. FC members can easily invite me if they are short on members. So, poping of logout tab just annoys me and I risk loosing chat history.Quote:

and we don't need it now, population is low enough.Quote:

If you aren't doing anything for 30 minutes, then kicking you out is certainly not "restricting" you from doing anything besides wasting bandwidth.
Nearly every game ever made boots you out for inactivity. I don't know why it's an issue here.
Given that it was patched IN to the game, I doubt it'll be removed. And it's a good thing, people shouldn't be allowed to sit around taking up server space if there is only limited room. If you're not playing, get off. There are no bazaars in this game so there's no gameplay reason to stay logged in.
beta2 is open beta. Everyone with a PS4 have access to it. and it will be on the live servers, together with everyone who play it already. And shortly after 2.2
At least this weekend will be a crowded weekend even with the afk lock-out.
And the main problem with the launch problems was that they have underestimated how many people would play it. What if they underestimate it again?
Once again, they have access to numbers and we don't. Yoshi almost cried because of all the mess with early access and launch. For a grown man to almost cry, I'm sure he's not going to have that happen again. They added two new servers AND they upgraded the servers to be able to hold more people online at the same time.
I'm so glad this terrible system is being removed.
Everyone found ways to stay logged in regardless, but this is just going to make it that much more pleasant to wait for a duty and not be surprised by the main menu music instead the sound of the duty window popping up.
Having to change to a crafter and back again upon a ready duty was a chore. And the reset of abilities made the start of some of the fights more anoying than they should have been when you had to wait 10 minutes for an ability to recharge.
So thank you for this so much SE. One of the few major anoyances in this game taken care of.
Emphasis on "was", while some may debate this; SE did improvements on their datacenters, aside from that population has dwindeled to a point where this measure is not necesarry anymore.
Most of the times people do get to see queues can be accounted to the first minutes post maintenance where thousands of players try to reconnect to the game simultaniously.
The PS4 release is also not a solid reason, the PS4 release won't magically double the playerbase.
The biggest influx of PS4 players will be people that played PS3 before, aside from that some of the non-legacy servers have dropped to very low populations so I figure they'll try and funnel new PS4 players there.
Oh joy...So now everytime I go to any city or hub I get to have my frame rate plummet to nothingness so that people can leave their game running for no apparent reason! Yay! >.>
