You were expecting a quality FATE?
They don't exist.
I'm telling you right now, any event tied to FATE will ALWAYS lead to disappointment.
Needs more bells.
They need to go study modern MMO's some more it seems. GW2 would be a good starting point if they want to make good events.
Like more cowbells?
Best solution for square currently... SIMPLY STOP MAKING FATES. Do something else.
Fates since beta have been a boring zerg... about time to just give up on that and focus on making fun content instead. FATES for the majority are not FUN, they are a pointless lagfilled bug ridden zerg.
So many other things SE could do that would be more fun and actually require you do more then spam aoe.
If anyone was expecting anything more from this obvious advertisement for their new game is daft. This "event" is akin to the obvious ad placements in movies. I predict that any future appearances from our "favorite" (Lightning, really?) FF heroes are going to coincide with a release or re-release of a FF. Mark my words.
Instead of wasting development and promotional power on garbage like this, they should be focusing on getting a full "challenging" endgame out to retain the endgame crowd before they get bored and die off.
It's a dumb cross promotion for a silly dress and some hobo clothes
You really shouldn't have expected any weighted story at all.
Essentially stuff like this is going to be non cannon.
Well, I turned off nameplates and spell effects, and I still couldn't see Lightning. I couldn't even see the mobs I was trying to kill most of the time. It was really dumb.
I saw her emotes, and I somehow got Gold (go go being in a party + Bio spam), but I never actually saw the main character. Hilarious, really.
Not sure I want to even try to get the other weapons. It's not like I have room in my bags for all this crap anyway. :-\
It was talked about for months because cross game advertising is cheap.
Lightning's presence in this game will amount to no more than her clashing trinkets popping up now and then on characters that get a jolly from it. And honestly, that's as far as it should go. We don't need this game to turn into some self appreciating fan fiction for the series designers.
when i saw that there were quest givers for the event i thought square had learned its lesson about fates, i was proven wrong.
It seems like any flaw, be they big or small, will not satisfy anyone in this game. Always something to complain or rant about hehe.
It's really really really bad
I disagree. Halloween was a huge disappointment. This is just a promotion for another FF game. I'm surprised we got anything more than a Lightning earring or something in the mail. This promo is already five time more involved than All Saints Wake. This is just part one. Just doing the quest today unlocks hairstyles for when 2.1 launches. We'll get a full costume, and several weapons for whenever S-E decides to throw us a bone on vanity slots.
Remember what this is. a cross promotion. Not a seasonal event. and we also get it again, next year when Lightning Returns releases in the west.
Give this community a gold brick and half of you jerks would demand a bag to carry it in.
I like it how nowadays people just spout whatever they want and then call it an opinion as if that suddenly makes their words suddenly have some weight.
It may very well be an opinion, but that doesn't stop it from being a lot of other things at the same time.
Haven't done the Lightning event yet, but something like this would have been awesome.
They should have made all Lightning related group quests Guildleves instead of Fates. That way, we could just use the Duty finder and they could have made helping Lightning more cinematic too boot.
Indeed. See signature for details ;)

This would have been soooo much better this way. Had to do the FATE at least 3 times just to get any credit for doing it. Also, off topic, but I went off on some buy before the Fate. Idk what caused it because I'm usually a calm person. But I spent the next 2-3 min calling him a bundle of sticks(you know the word). But yeah, I think using FATEs was the wrong way to do it.
BUT BUT BUT.. that would have taken time and actual effort! What are you thinking?! /sarcasm
Its quite obvious at this point they have some kind of program to copy and paste what they want a fate/leve/quest to do, add the models, text.. and walla.. copy and paste.
Gone are the days of actual craftsmanship.
True, not what I am though.. I do see the shortcomings in doing this as a FATE as it A) causes frustration and B) doesn't give an equal opportunity to experience the story (which is not great from what I hear). I also understand where people are coming from by saying that this is a poor event because it doesn't really add anything. To this point I am arguing. I don't think it is fair to pass judgement on this event when it hasn't been completed yet. That is all.
I'd rather them not spend time on a silly advertisement to begin with tbh. A billion things wrong with endgame such as needing more "quality" stuff to do and here we are watching a "lightning" commercial... (thats really all it is)
And yes i would rather them spend time on something worth while... such as.. the "golden saucer" thing that was planned. That alone would keep people busy for quite some time.
But no.. here we are wasting time on stuff such as useless instanced housing ( I heard you cant store crap there) and advertisements.
Can't say is a really fun FATE but at least I got all the stuffs atm spending 2 hours.
The weapons are really cool so I am cool with it as well lol
To avoid disappointment, you need to set your expectations lower. Where did you get the idea that there were going to be cinematics and cutscenes? Did they ever advertise it as such? No.
I am not disappointed as I didn't expect it to be anything more than it was. A quest/fate event with a FF13 theme.
I don't see lightning only the craps & most of the time nothing...but still got 3 weapons somehow ;)
You mean people who kept the game going into patch 1.23 and welcomed 2.0 aren't happy about a poorly designed event that is suppose to advertise the new FFXIII along with give XIV players something to do? One where the main character of the event isn't even viewable because of said design. Sorry for expecting the bar to be higher than it is.
Solutions:
1) level something with an AOE spam cross class.
2) delay your participation by a chapter. i.e....farm chapter 1 after chapter 2 is released, and so on. Guarantees there will progressively be less of a crowd in the fate you're farming.
Not sure why anyone expected less than a spam fest within the first 12 hours of its release -.-
