RMT need to die. They need to be eradicated. The fact that such worthless "people" exist on this planet disgusts me.
To anyone who buys gil: YOU ARE FUNDING THESE VERMIN! If there was no market, these filth wouldn't be infesting us.

stop using those bot programs.
Does anyone else find it amusing that the RMT's are now having to go THIS FAR in order to make money in this game? I like to see it as progress on SE's part. The RMT's are stooping to new lows in order to keep the funds rolling in. Something this blatantly obvious is bound to get attention and the rollback will make everything the way it was before. They shouldn't have been so careless attacking everyone at once. I just hope that SE is able to grab the mass amount of gil from them before it gets sold to the low-life's that buy it.
Well this isn't promising...
On the lodestone character info page, I logged out tonight as a SMN but all my gear is set to what I had equipped when I logged out last night instead. I think we're getting a rollback. ._.
This is what worries me. Im worried i may have lost gil since I was around the market boards during this time. But even more worried I wasted my time due to an incoming rollback. I had 2 nights off this week(work 12 hour night shift), last night and tonight. Hit myth cap and gained levels on BLM. Im probably going to lose like 12 hours worth of gameplay if they roll it back to last night and lose 300 myth since I have no time the rest of the week to get them again. Thats frustrating.
aha ! let see what we got here
1.take 1 - 2 month to check and unban player who get ban coz they get hack
2.take out gil (since someone figure out how to dupe gil and screw the economy ?)
3.0 customer support
4.retard credit card payment system
5.position update delay
and now code inject that force trade gil ? really ?
they better come up with something good real fast
The client-server communication lines in this game are not very secure. It's very worrisome that a third party can manipulate data on someone else's character like this.
Can someone savvy in this type of thing tell me how something like this is even remotely possible?
It's obviously not something that could ever practically happen nor be enforced, but I am of the strong opinion that once you wilfully violate people enough, you have to be "taken out of the game". A slap on the wrist leaving you to just inflict suffering on others is no punishment at all.
I hope they re-rolled all servers and give people their gils back. I would quit if i lost all my gils ...-_-. I don't mind the re-roll but hopefully it help other players.
I hope I didn't loose any gil but I hope they don't roll back a whole day like seems to be the case based on lodestone. So much lvling lost... and grinding for the 2 star I had made... ugh this is going to suck. Though unfortunately sucks more for those who lost a lot of gil and time with things other than grinding. =(
Yes, if there's a positive side to this, it's that it's going to be very easy for SE to track the stolen gil and offending retainers. We're not dealing with the brightest criminal minds apparently.Quote:

It's also fairly well certain that this attack - which is what it is - is sufficiently illegal to involve law enforcement from several jurisdictions. Basically, this was a colossally stupid move by the RMTs since it will almost certainly allow SE to justify far wider ranging actions against RMT than before.
dang. i only found this thread now. made me wish i could check my gil funds before servers went down since i did spend a good amount of time near the market board and the summoning bell to level my goldsmith.
The lodestone hasn't reflect my proper levels or current job since they shutdown the beta version.
So I am still hoping it doesn't mean a rollback, as I just grinded from Lv 32 to 42 Botanist in the past day or two without leves. >.>; I will lose what sanity I have left.
I would be very surprised if there was. No team worth their salt would EVER try a rollback. You determine the exploit, work on an algorithm to determine which transactions need to be reversed and reverse them accordingly. The only time a complete rollback is something you might consider is when your datacenter burns down and you're working off tape backups.
Just a bad bit of code, it happens. A few million lines and it's not overly surprising that someone finds a weakness in a few of them.
I like how everyone automatically jumps to the RMT must have done this.. Ever stop to think that over the last week SE has banned a couple thousand players again for "illicit" activities and probably caught another bunch of innocent people with alot of gil, that already lost it once before and what that could mean? Really now, why would rmt try something so obvious as this?? They have plenty of other means and this act leaves a big blazing trail right to the money. This is an attack in retaliation i'm willing to bet , because this person or group even of people have decided they are tired of SE and watching others with lots of gil get no attention from the Ban Hammer. It would not be the first time nor the last time a person or group has attacked a game this way for payback.
Just something to think about.
There's been a number of server-side hacks going on for a while, this is just the first time that it's directly affected others (that I know of). Other hacks I've seen personally or read that should be server side were immediate completion of gather attempts (1 swing = 4+ swings) and instant leveling (only heard of with crafts, but certainly possible with combat).
It's not just RMTs you have to worry about. There are a group of "players" that pretty much exist only to find exploits and disrupt games. A simple Google search will find dozens of sites dedicated to Botting and Exploits. And having a single account banned doesn't really bother them, as most of them have multiple accounts. Their only goal is to be the "best" at whatever game they happen to have set their adolescent minds on. If being the "best" means ruining it for everyone else, that is exactly what they'll do. And, like most nascent criminals, they see nothing wrong in what they do.
Sorry to say, I really doubt SE will do any kind of rollback.
I really wish SE would show they care about our pretend assets as much as we do. Their reaction to this most recent exploit is more to cover their butt more than anything. It's not a kindness for our monies... :( People can say otherwise, but it's more to the effect that someone putting holes in their game makes them look bad. And, we all want SE, the creator of our little world to look good and continue to make money so another meteor doesn't fall and kill us all....again...
So those wishing for a rollback, it wouldn't hurt me for you to get it, but i really doubt SE would go through the trouble. I could speculate what it would take for some kind of rollback or recovery to happen, but it would just get peoples hopes up. :(
Here's hoping for our benevolent overlords to get a handle on RMT. Perhaps they need to make all RMT spam/exploit bots killable in game. That would make me smile.

I wonder if they'll also do the same thing to people that got booted while in the middle of crafting.

This matter, do not expect any roll back of large-scale data at the moment.
We plan for the data of the person who the victims, am allowed to respond that I did well basically.
Further, it has secured information in the path / IP address for both time,
Currently, against fraudsters malicious, we are promoting the support of legal action.
The client sends data to the server and vice-versa. This game does not have very good security over that stream of information, and hackers have found ways to manipulate it into tricking the server into thinking you (your client, specifically) is buying things from the market that you actually aren't.
And btw, Yoshi has just posted on the JP boards that people will be reimbursed and there won't be rollbacks.
EDIT: LOL Google translate is so fail. But yeah, that's his post Shinsaki linked. We posted at the exact same time. xD
hehe omg people :o nima plays this game and almost never uses gil xD just play the game and dont whine about petty cash :p it's the adventure and combat that matters!
there was a time i said i don't hate RMT i hate the people who buy off them.. cos there would be no RMT without buyers..
But this is some other level shit right here.. wtf is wrong with these people?
:D hhehe nyaaa this isnt nima's face silly! it's a mask ^_^ durrr. but yea people are too greedy about their precious "money" .-. money doesn't make the game, combat, adventuring and crafting make the game :p cant buy supplies? gather them :3 cant buy new armor? make it with gathered materials ;p

Regarding the exploited.
We received reports earlier of people misusing the marketboard and illegal access and fake identities. Only a few people have been affected but we are taking the servers down ASAP to prevent the infection from spreading.
For the players that have been affected, please rest assured that we have secured your data and will reset everything for you. (ie, no server rollback, only character rollbacks)
The exploit only affects people in some words, in a particular zone. Those not logged in will not be affected.
The rest is unimportant PR talk.
Regarding the exploiters.
We have traced their routes and will be going after them through legal means.
