I'm a PS3 owner and i'm a hardcore player, i play only hard games because it's more enjoyable.

We have thousand's of easy MMO but we have only 1 hardcore MMO (FFXI) i love it so much and quit it since they made it easier than before.

I hope this game will turn out to something great like what FFXI was in the old days.

No worries. I'm pretty sure we scared the OP off. Hopefully this thread will die off like it needs to soon.

FFXI made this game possible and most other SE projects post 2005 possible. Also, that's pretty funny about it not being "smooth", but I guess you likely played on dial up or something.

XI was and still is one of the smoothest MMOs I've played, both inside and outside of Japan.

I think what most people are talking about difficulty wise is not laughably killable mobs or tasks such as every Leve quest is at the moment, making these and other things tougher wouldnt be anything against making a casual experiance less enjoyable, as long as the new content and new rebalencing works out well with the current system it can only benefit gamers from a casual and hardcore standpoint, i definatly dont want to just go into these dungeons and steamroll through them as if it was just a leve in a new zone.~

I loved FFXI and all the challenges, the stories, epic battles but the huge time sinks killed the fun in the long run! I wouldn't mind going in the same direction but with much less time sink.

Yes please! leves themselves are freakin time sink even. I actually enjoy them now especially since I started doing them in parties but for the most party they have you running around and the actual mob takes seconds to kill. I think they need to fill up the "downtime" with some fun gameplay because a time sink doesn't keep people around, good gameplay does. I think they're headed in the right direction.

I hope that FF XIV will turn into FF XI, so the OP wont be part of the game's community lol. And when you leave OP, (assuming you actually play the game, tho i doubt you actually do) guess what. No one will care, no one will cry for you, no one needs you. Bye bye!

Long Story Short: C'thun was overtuned when AQ40 hit live servers during vanilla. Even with a perfect raid comp, perfect gearing and legendaries, you still could not beat him. If memory serves, the world first kill did not happen until he was actually nerfed.

M'uru in Sunwell Plateau was a similar story, though that boss was beaten. It required a perfect raid comp and flawless play (and no one DC'ing). Once the top 2% got their fill he was nerfed so that more guilds could down him and make it to the final boss of the instance. Pre-nerf M'uru was and still is a measuring stick for how well a guild handled raid encounters.

Here's the problem: this works in console FF games because most of those guys are there for bragging rights for the most part.

That doesn't fly in an MMO because you need the gear carrot-on-a-stick to get people to do anything. I can concede in the event that it is something completely unrelated to storyline content with plenty of alternatives to whatever they may drop (AV happened to drop the best haste belt in the game amongst other goodies).

In the end, it could be that what I consider hard is different from most of the stuff cited from FFXI. People say Kirin was hard, whereas I say Kirin was a poorly-designed boss that had to be kited to be killed because otherwise he did too much damage. No interesting mechanics, no abilities to watch out for. You just kited Kirin, used WS once your DPS slept to 100-300 TP and you were done. Fafnir was the same thing, leaving the damage to your black mages and monks spamming chi blast while your DPS played cheerleaders because you had to avoid giving Faf TP. Even divine might was basically a bunch of stuff thrown together and leaving the players to figure out how to get around the mechanics rather than take the encounter head-on (hence why super tank and 18 BLM method became so prominent).

To restate my other point, you can make stuff reasonably challenging without making it all timesinks.

Please don't try to bring up the skill argument. FFXI was stat stacking. There wasn't much skill involved, unless you consider pressing a job ability macro with a bunch of gear swaps tied in as skill. Which is as much "skill" as pressing a cast sequence macro. I.E. not much. >.>

At the risk of channeling rog and lolgaxe from the allakhazam boards, it takes about 20 mins to learn how to play a job and fulfill the role expected of that job in a party in FFXI. So everyone is either super skilled, or...

I want to play FFXIV lightly.. I don't want to be pressed by preposterous timesinks..
I loved FFXI.. I played it for 5 years, say what.. but back then, I was still in school.. things have changed..

I wouldn't have a problem with it being like FF XI at all but at the end of the day this is FF XIV not XI it's never going to be exactly the same is it. This game was built to enable casual play and hopefully hardcore to eventually.

Not sure if people read any of the development letters. The last battle rehaul letter clearly said they're developing new material with solo players still in mind. And I recently went back to ff:xi after a 4 year break and I'm loving it, I play it casually and so far I'm having a great time with it.

In bold state: this game actually need something, if not difficult at least engaging, making a game too easy it's just like have a "gimmeuberequip" button

Square is not going to grant your request because your reasoning behind your post is only based on personal feelings and not representing the player community as a whole. I also don't think they will listen to someone who straight up says that they hate one of Square's more successful games. That's like telling someone, "I hate your haircut, it looks so stupid! Only reason it managed to maintain some vestige of a playerbase for so long was a lack of competition. Don't act like it gained subscriptions by any fair means.

The hardcore nature of FFXI back in 2003 is what made FFXI good. Now a days everyone wants a watered down MMO that plays like a single player offline game but its online.

Yea the relationships I have seen forged and have forged myself due to the difficulty and forced groupage in XI trumps anything I have read so far. Hell I am going to the upcoming Distant Worlds concert with 2 friends I met in XI who also met in XI and got married IRL Sept 2010. I have never had these kinda bonds in any game I have played thus far and my MMO career doesn't just include XI, I have played every MMO on the market with the exception of Rift after launch because beta was boring.

While I agree XIV needs to retain its solo friendly attitude(which it is) I don't see the problem with it mimicing the good stuff from XI. Even now XI has become a more solo friendly game while partying is still the top dog.

Thank you :) Not only that,getting parties was a nightmare!!! I remember that one of my friend had a hard time to sleep and his real life was declining because of this game and on how it was demanding on players.

If FF XIV was like FF XI, All the FF XI playerbase would have moved to FF XIV by now, and the game would have the company earn Money. And the so bad elements of FF XI could be improved and then FF XIV would be a success by now in terms of gameplay, content, profit, and playerbase.

But ok. FF XIV was not FF XI. It was something Different. The results we all saw them.

And about how If FF XI was launched today would fail... Where do you base that? Because as far as i am aware of, When FF XI was released for Xbox 360 which is not far from today, the number of subscriptions was significantly increased.

If SE was like FF XI but a bit improved, it would have a rdy, steady playerbase allrdy. And as an improved FF XI it would attracts new gamers. Not weekend warriors.

FFXI was hard and it was ok for that time but soon dumbass wow came the challenge of mmo went to easy mode. But FFXIV right now is more casual then WoW,rift,aion. I sure don't want FFXIV to be just like FFXI but i do want the challenge that FFXI had to come to ffxiv we all can agree we can have a challenge and still be casual right?

this is where you are wrong, this game needs to be more like FFXI in some ways, when FFXIV started, they wanted to be so different from FFXI, they screwed it all up.... now they are fixing it, and as you can see, it is becoming more like FFXI every patch, and honestly to alot of us.... that is perfectly fine.

Reguardless of how you feel about FFXI, if this game would have taken a blue print from FFXI ( which they should have ) and created some unque ideas to their MMO, such as, Guild Leve System, soloable XP mobs, a brand new story line, quest hub camps, and a few others, this game would be a pay to play game with over 400k subscribers today. FFXI was a great game and I can only hope that this game moves more and more towards adopting more if it's core fundiments.
