This isn't quite right actually. All DoTs and HoTs work on a global server timer. Regen "might" tick as soon as you cast it, IF the server timer said all HoTs tick at that moment. Or you could have to wait the full 3 seconds before seeing a tick, or somewhere in between. It's why when you have multiple HoTs or DoTs they all combine and tick at the same time as one large number. Try doing it with Medica II and Regen.

Here we go again! Another thread of numerous people defending horribly designed game mechanics because they feel offended if anyone has any constructive criticism about a game they love.

Stop defending badly designed/bugged mechanics, by doing so you are only holding the game back from improving and becoming a better experience for everyone.

With that said, in real MMO's with actual working healing enmity systems for HOT's, HOT's(regen) do not insta-pull aggro and generative very low aggro. It is badly designed and they need to fix it. It was like this in another MMO and quickly got fixed within a few minor-matches, I can't remember the MMO's name though. I can keep HOT's up fulltime whenever I want in WOW without a care in the world, same in Rift.

Stop arguing against things that ARE broken and need looked at by developers, you are holding the game back from improving.

I'm not disagreeing that it's incorrect to regen before the start right now, because of the flaws in the design. I'm saying they should fix the flaws in the design.

Yes, I appreciate whms that are aware of how regen works but A) I dislike how it works and B) I grow tired of chasing mobs because someone else screwed up.

Yeah totally, there are whms that will ride my aoe hate through the whole instance because they just spam cure nonstop and noone's hp moves off full. There are also healers, of both types, who keep everyone nearly full but generate minimal enmity. I prefer the second.

Interesting. Thanks for the info.

I'm not defending anything. Regen, outside of the server controlled tic times, works the same as pretty much any other MMO i've ever played. You get Enmity for the amount i heals, nothing different. It's the same damn thing as if you cured the tank before he used an aoe enmity skill, the ones he had done nothing to would make a beeline for you.

You haven't demonstrated any flaws. At least not with Regen. It has a niche (ie tank stabilization). Using it outside of that niche causes things you don't like to happen. Sorry.

Lets work on real flaws (ie Fairy switching back to guard mode after being command to use an ability).

Actually, in some games, regens generate no enmity.

In FFXI, regens geenrated fixed enmity on initial cast and no further. Regen 5 aoe from an sch was no more likely to pull hate than a curaga. Of course, FFXI also had supertanking so that things attacked you until someone did something directly to them (for those unaware, a tank could charge into a pack of trash and it would attack him endlessly, regardless of heals, until someone did something to one of the adds. No tanks had any significant aoe hate in that game though.

In wow, as I stated, tanks had methods to counter server latency. Death and Decay, Charge>Shockwave, Avenger's Shield, and better client<>server communication. Holy Wrath was always good for me to get things attention if they would happen to switch target midpull.

Well, the key difference is that overhealing in this game causes enmity unlike a certain other MMO.

I'm not sure if I'd call that a flaw either. I like watching my enmity in this game. Overhealing is a big part of that.

Yeah I don't see it as flawed either. If Regen did double enmity per amount healed compared to other heals, and it wasn't intended, THAT would be broken. But as it is? Not in the slightest.

I agree. Regen is flawed if it has a hidden enmity multiplier. I don't think it does though. It's a pretty beefy hot and easy to pull agro if not used right.
