This thing is worse than that video from The Ring.
nope, the game is about getting to raids and clearing content as quickly as possible.
I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes.
Dem feels~
Nice vid. :3
Here are some other great FFXI-era videos:
Taru BST MPK!
FFXI - Hey Ya
Finsternis and Prufrock Part I
Finsternis and Prufrock Part II
Finsternis and Prufrock Part III
Phank Tarutaru Parade
Loved this video. When ffxi first came out I was there and I meet a guy name Gio, me and him would do everything from hunting to exploring. Sadly I have lost touch with him, I had his myspace *when myspace was newish lol* but I lost that account.
Nostalgia is high in this thread.
You guys realize that FFXI is still up and going if you want to play it right?
XI was the only FF I haven't played. (since I took notice of the series)
At the time I didn't want to risk it because I was just about in the tail end of serious Game addiction. Brain melting, sleep deprivation, as well as a complete lack of interest in 'real life' food, school, family was just a rigmarole I had to go through for the purpose of playing games.
The only reason I actually promised myself XIV (this was back when I applied for 1.0 beta) was because at the time I was in university and I judged myself to be doing OK enough in the "real life" side of things to tackle the issue of what would happen were I to play an MMORPG.
I very nearly did not buy this game out of fear of it being too much too soon.
Back on topic, I would relate more to the WHT in that story, but I find sometimes people can be a little full on with RPing, like they're too immersed, desperate and dependent and they get angry if you burst their bubble.
I find it hard to believe the WHT was sending blank messaged, and if she was, then despite having the better gaming attitude, she was also kinda nuts (and I know what that feels like).
Nostalgia isn't enough reason to go back. I have boat loads of nostalgia from XI. But playing it again wont magically bring back the good times. There is nothing wrong with reminding people that they can slow down if they want. And also nothing wrong with wanting to make friends to enjoy this game with.
For some people, one reason or another they play games because it helps them feel like they accomplished something. So that race to get the best gear drives them.
Other people, that is the last thing they want. Their life is already like that and in game this just want to chill and escape reality.
Sorry if I misunderstood your post. It really seems like a "If you want that community, go back to XI". Sadly, even in XI these days, communities like that are near dead.
@OP. Thank you for re-sharing this. It is nice to know that not everyone feels like they have to rush. Honestly, sometimes the most fun I have in games is just goofing off. Whether it's by making my character strafe back and forth really fast so she is shaking her "tail feathers", or trying to push enemies off a cliff with Water Surge, or trying to find the highest place you can fall from etc.
My whole guild is level 50s doing raids by now,.. im still level 30.. but i dont give a fuck, im having fun, enjoy myself and am taking in the full story and beautifull moments this game has to offer :D
