It's because Zodiark is a new server and the markets ain't stable yet. I also started from Zodiark. When I moved to Shiva i was baffled how cheap some stuff were compared to what I was used to. But this also works the other way around for example some crafting mats that were worth nothing in Zodiark were sold immediately at high price in here.

Given some time and more population i'm sure the prices in Zodiark will go down too.

how the hell can that materia cost that much !?

on topic: Spirit bound tier III gear is the best you can do, the materia get from gear is still random, but you should be able to sell other materia & gamble the junk one to have a chance to get something else

Just some info to help out: idk on other servers, but on Behemoth crafters usually craft for free if you give them the materials. And one of the best places to spiritbind is Urth's Gift (quarrymill teleport). There a bunch of Water Spirits are close together and all you need is to walk around the big crystal there aggroing everything then pilling them up and AoEing them (preferably as a WHM for Holy). Im sure there are other ways too but this is the one I use the most =P

I was always under the impression that any SB item, you can get any materia of the stats of said item. So, if the item has spell speed, then you might get a materia with spell speed.

It is pretty random really..

Any battle related thing you convert can be ANY battle related materia. A militia robe (i55 mage set) can turn into Vitality III, while the heavy militia (i55 tank set) can turn into savage aim III.

Craft and gathering convertible items are more intuitive due to there not being many materia of that type to begin with. Convert a gathering ring and you'll get gathering materia! Convert a crafting ring and, you guessed it, you'll get a craft materia.

Only DoW items can yield Strength, Dexterity, Battledance, or Quickarm. Only DoM items can yield Mind, Piety, Intellect, or Quicktongue. Either one can yield Vitality, Savage Aim, Savage Might, or Heaven's Eye.

Every DoM gear should have a chance to give a Quicktongue materia.
Look if some leves in Mor Dhonna give you DoM gear as reward to get some cheap gear for SB ^^
