That doesn't change the fact that the Internet wasn't commercialize until 1995 and the first thing to be considered a true MMO was about 1998

I've explained to a few people, who suggested adding worlds would solve congestion issues, how it would not fix the problem in the long term. Having witness this happen to an MMO that started off really popular, greatly hyped and has a loyal fan base, I didn't want to see this happen to 14. Servers were added but, eventually, people stopped playing. First they got rid of all of their pvp servers, then they got rid of their regional servers. Last I heard, they only have 4 servers covering all the regions the game used to have separated.
So you can see my bit of concern and why I feel that adding more worlds is the equivalent to putting a short-term solution on something that has long term effects.
Don't remember using the term "toon" too much, in everquest or ultima....
Besides the point, give the game two weeks that's all I'm gonna say.
Im going to call my character "Toon" from now on. I like the Sound of the Word and my Toon agrees.
Toon, Toon, Toon!
These details may come in a Producer's Letter soon. SE knows that existing worlds are beyond capacity and that simply adding more won't fix that. Maybe they're hoping some players will reroll, but surely that won't be enough.
SE has done organized world transfers twice for FFXIV already (once to merge worlds, once to cross data centers). Plus FFXI held new world emigration applications when it was growing, nearly 10 years ago. I'm not sure how SE handle it this time, so soon after launch, but this problem has also split friends, guilds and family members across worlds and I would like to see a solution that lets them play together as they intended.
'Tis true. I was also using the worldwide network of DARPA back in the late '80s. Mostly email and USENET (worldwide forums), but there were quite a few multiplayer games to keep people entertained. Small world. Even smaller if you knew things called ngp and ccwf.

Be Nice. Success means FF14 will see a lot of "toon", "realm", "rez", etc. Fear not. All will be assimilated eventually. (^_–) ☆
(Or vice-versa...)
Of course we need more servers.
Even if they increase the capasity for the current servers, the moment they start the online sell again the servers are full again.
You are new in the english forum?Quote:
Also, what the FUCK is with the posting limit on a games release forums?! HOW DOES THAT EVEN MAKE SENSE!
I would also like some clarification on what the plan is for people on currently full servers experiencing error 1017. New servers sound great for anyone buying the game from here on out, but I am hoping they are planning something to allow more concurrent connections on the current servers. Otherwise nothing will be resolved.
OP has a point. When I read "to increase the capacity of datacenters" I understand "increase quantity of available servers". In the maintenance announcement it doesn't say anything explicitly about increasing capacity of existing servers, just addition of new servers, fixing problems with duty finder load and fixing known issues. Guess we'll see on Wednesday. I'm curious anyway, the new servers will probably just crash from all the congestion. Me and my best friend, we'll probably migrate as well, she's on Behemoth which is locked and I'm on Excalibur which is also locked...makes no sense to continue playing separately.
There is still the server trasnsfer service, coming mid september
