Assuming each class has two jobs like the Arcanist currently enjoys. I would imagine the Samurai to come from a Marauder base and the Thief to come from the pugilist.
In addition, I'd call Conjurer becoming Geomancers, Gladiators becoming Dark Knights, Lancers becoming Ninjas, Archers becoming something involving firearms and explosives.
Not sure on the Thaumaturges, maybe a necromancer or Death focused type?

I agree with a lot of this. Geomancers should come out of Conjurer. The entire premise of the Conjurer screams Geomancer. Samurai and Marauder make a fine mechanical combo in my opinion. I would sort of like to see Samurai as a retaliation type tank, but I don't think this is really all that feasible. The other problem with that is that Marauder already leads into Warrior, a tank class. If Samurai is DPS, then yes, Marauder as a base class is good, but Marauders should have the option to have DPS or Tank, not Tank or Tank.
I expect Thief to be a base class in an expansion, which will also lead into Ninja.
On an additional note, I'd like to see Beastmaster, Dark Knight (could be Marauder/Arcanist?), Red Mage, and especially Blue Mage (skill hunting is fun IMO) in addition to the classes already mentioned in your post. Necromancer could be fun, but I'd put it on a fairly low priority in relation to the above.

Give us a new class involving a 2handed sword, then make its 2 jobs SAM or DRK maybe? THF and NIN go together as well.

To those suggesting tacking on new jobs to current classes, remember jobs MUST share the same weapon.
Unless you want your samaurai to become an axe wielding psycho (granted, this might appeal to people), its not feasible to have them in the same vein as marauders.
Archers cannot (unless they decide to add guns for bards) become shooter or musketeer types.
Lancers can't become ninjas unless ninjas suddenly started using lances for some reason.
What would make sense is samurai and ninja to both be in the same "base class", as they both use eastern swords (maybe ninja unlocks dual wielding, or perhaps dual weapons is an option for both like it is with conjurers).

samurai tank?
@Sithlord006
Actually, I think it's completely possible that Samurai might be an even more tanky form of marauder tank (if it were a tank, and if it were based on Marauder). Given the limited jobs on release who's to say "off-tank" or "add-tank" wasn't something that was designed to exist. Paladin being a "Main-tank" and Warrior being an "Off-Tank". So Dark Knight (if it were the second GLA job) being a less defensive and more offensive tank (like Warrior) and Samurai being a more defensive and less offensive tank (like Paladin) you would essentially cover all bases. Regardless of whether the group needs you to be Main Tank or Off Tank, if you leveled as a marauder OR Gladiator you can switch between the two easily by equipping the job soul item. This also brings up the fact that Samurai swords, if they were to be entered into the game, would have to be Marauder weapons for the reasons that PandaBearCat mentioned.

@PandaBearCat
you are absolutely correct. I was reaching too far for a few of those ideas, trying to think of a job and then fit it rather than find a specialization within the class. That being said, I don't see anything inherently wrong with 2 handed samurai sword wielding warriors or pistol wielding bards. The Lancer/ninja one is absolutely correct though, it clearly doesn't work due to restrictions.
In fact, given the existing class architecture, the only possible place to put a ninja would be as a job of gladiator. Which raises some rather interesting possibilities regarding armored gauntlets/parrying daggers if bucklers and great shields aren't your style.

Dark Knight is the way to go!
But sure add some other job so everyone won't be a DRK
