I'm trying to decide whether my second job will be tank or healer, but we have quite a few tanks in the FC, so leaning towards healer. Either way though, tank is the least interesting role to play at the moment.

In general I don't have constint issues tanking in DF, most people are intellifent enough to stop the ego trips and learn to control damage. WHile I have no issues with most hate control because of the way I build an attack shift and hit another target to maintain it , upper dungens don't play that way, and the DPS who have yet to learn mechanics tend to cause undo stress and over working on the tank.
OR when you can clearly see DD, or another maleee class going crazing trying the purposely get hate off you to look glorious (or rather act like idiots) adnd they become frustrated when they can't.
Follow lead, and work as a team. I had a lancer run ahead trying to be a hot shot going the wrong direction, pulling mobs, and when it gets over bearing, im not chasing to rescue him, let him whipe, and catch up with the group.
A note to healers, you don't need to spam heal. IF a tanks mp is down 10-20% ease off, you are over curing and negating.
While Arc or scholar is fun, the tanking pets are not efficient as main tanks in upper dungeons, they are good for taking off the sting.
Just wait until damage meters become a thing.

Addons won't happen in the next 6 months and I hope most tanks and healers just let those jerks that pull hate on purpose die.
Not in my experience. As a conjurer I literally have not waited more than 1-2 seconds to get a party after setting my DF.
I think the real problem is DPS jobs setting their DF and going AFK. Almost every time I get a party it resets 3-4 times because the DPS jobs never check in.
I play both tank and DPS and tank's queue is much shorter. I usually get a match within seconds if I don't change zones. However, I prefer to play with my FC since we can talk to TS and it gets rid of that random factor like a DPS keep using their AOE even when I tell them Overpower is TP consuming and doesn't make much sense. And then they start running around like they can kite the mobs and end up dying anyway. I'd just give up at trying to regrab aggro at that point.
I think your definition of boring and my definition of boring are pretty far apart. I've had a great time tanking. I should also clarify that I've run everything exclusively with Duty Finder with only my wife tagging along on her BLM. For the most part, dps/dd tend to follow the lead. I say hello, make sure my WHM throws up protect, immediately begin pulling, and continue to chain pull until we reach a boss. My wife knows when to sleep and what to sleep, and the others tend to fall in line. 1-2 lines of quick instruction on a boss and keep moving.
This is purely anecdotal, but I've found that if people trust the tank and/or party leader, and that person looks like they know what they're doing, everyone tends to perform better. A lot of tanks like to complain about pugs/duty finder groups, but I believe it falls on the tank to lead by example. If you're not into that, then yea, maybe it's time for a different job.
Back to the original topic, No. Pets do not presently make viable tanks. I've had only one confrontation with a SMN so far regarding that golden carbuncle abortion. Everyone else has had the common sense to whip out the classic blue version.
People tell me tanks are harder to find, but as a healer I've never had to wait more than 10 seconds to get a party, and most people shouting for party members in zone tend to be griping about their duty groups not having a healer.
SCH is good fun, but SCH is a job role, so those early dungeons are dependent upon CNJ for their healer and CNJ is a boring as hell class to play. I only continue to use CNJ at all because I'm the only person in my little group of friends that rolls CNJ and I don't mind healing for them, but soon as i get ARC to 30 I'm gonna be rolling SCH as my "primary" job.
On a different note, the idea that ACN can roll tank or healer, is rather laughable, maybe in the early dungeons - but the pet's dopey AI makes for an unreliable tank if you need to re-grab aggro due to a slip up. While ACN's heals are typically inferior to CNJ (Which gets bonus points in MIND, heals and Cleric stance to juggle MIND/INT values)
I am a tank, however when I do que up in the duty finder, its with with at least 2 guilded dps to give them a faster que when we cant find a healer.
I said it in beta and I'll say it again here - what is needed is to offer a mercenary or leve type reward for participating in dungeons you've previously cleared where there exists a demand for your class/job.
