The only way to do it is to click "Upgrade to the Digital Collector's Edition", and purchase CE from there.

That is annoying, I just spent £54.99 on the CE from Game, which is apparently now useless.
Well, looks like mine is going to be going on eBay, I've spent FAR too much on this game (I had to pre order online to get early access code) I brought the physical copy and I just upgraded through the SE website.
Has anyone managed to contact support to see if anything is being done about this?
Don't act so hastily, SE might fix this problem... hopefully.

So let me get this straight.
People who originally purchased the 1.0 FFXIV were told not to register another account, yet people did so mistakenly. They could play the game for free upon launch day with the same existing account. But then they would not be able get early access since that requires an early access code, which involves having to register an account to your existing account (or creating a new account) right? wow awkward.
I just realized that now (don't know about how it was back when I pre-ordered my CE) they do mention that 1.0 users don't have to buy the 40e edition and that there are other ways (upgrading) to be able to play to ARR on the store page. Well. So much for that. Either I just didn't read that and just went ahead and bought it or they added that disclaimer later on. Anyway, I somehow doubt that SE will do anything about it. But time will tell.
The problem I have with this is the way in which we were 'told'. Simply posting on a forum thread is not good enough. There are numerous reasons as to why people might have missed that post. It would have been so much better to simply email everyone.
If they mentioned it elsewhere then it's my bad I guess...
