Well actually I have a question. I have a PS3 so I could go ahead and pre-order it there, but would that be a waste of money also? I figured maybe I'd wanna play it on my PS3 sometimes, but do I have to buy it on PS3 seperately to be able to? Or could I log on my PS3 and play even if I had never bough it's version?
if you own the pc version only, then you would have to buy a ps3 version to play on the ps3 (you can attach said ps3 version to your pc account and have it flagged for pc/ps3) SE has some 'interesting' ways of doing things

I wholeheartedly understand your frustration... but here's the thing: I've got a 1.0 CE. As soon as they announced Preorders for PS3 ARR(2.0) CE I immediately slapped my $ down for it. Sadly, the PS3CE is no longer available (Physical Copy). I did manage to get 2 Early Access codes for ARR from them (2 replacement codes because there wasn't a code printed on my receipt and then the first code was having issues). I redeemed each EA code so I could play on both PC and PS3 during the EA window.
For those who are confused as to why I would throw money at them for a rebooted failure (as some of you put it) its because of the following: I <3 Final Fantasy. I <3 that this game looks better but requires less power to run. I <3 that I can get it for my PS3. If they make a PS4 CE I'll probably get it too.
Sadly my PC was laggy on 1.0 so I never really played my 1.0 game. From Beta3 and Beta4 I am sure that 2.0 will not fail.
Well I am conforming not a great thing for SE, actually a great thing SE not only did you scam me into getting 1.0 I am now a new owner of 2.0 and have to start a new account so all my phase 4 time doesn't count my purchase of 1.0 doesn't count and I more than likely have to start all over again. All this cause were here over here in NA or EU.
