Scrap ps3 Start ps4

On a serious note, Yoshi have said that the current game engine was designed to be scalable to the whatever platform it plays on, because he was already aware of the limitations caused by the PS2 on FFXI. As some have already stated in this thread, you don't have to worry about the PS3 holding the game back.

Yoshi-P already stated that porting to the PS4 would be possible but that's not the focus. There's a bigger market for the PS3.

Whenever someone has asked, Yoshi-P has said that he can't say anything about a PS4 version because it hasn't been announced, not that they have no plans. But Square-Enix and other developers and publishers have known about the PS4 for many months. I'm almost certain that that the PS4 version is in the planning stages at least, especially since PS4 architecture is so much closer to PC than PS3 architecture is. I would be only mildly surprised if ARR is available as a launch title for PS4. Of course any official word on this will be withheld until closer to that time for maximum free marketing potential.

You do realize the PS2 version is not longer supported outside of Japan because there is such a small fanbase for it? Has nothing to do with the limitations that everybody already knows because its been repeated so many times its so classic its efffin jurassic! So switch the situation and PS3 could always get expansions via the PSN store.

Yoshi has already stated the worst thing about the PS2 was the HDD space. Which is non existent with the PS3 and no problem with distribution thanks to the internet.

I am also very sure the PS3 version will look good now that Sony is involved in the process. The PC version will have the ability to look better. I think you guys are so damn silly to think they will FINALLY make good on their promise and let it be an ugly, laggy and unplayable port. So silly its cute....

The PS4, hardware wise, is pretty much just a standard computer anyway. Look at it's specs and you'll see that they're not too different from your own computer specs. In that vein, it is clearly possible to just port the PC version to the PS4 and call it a day.

The PS3 is so different from a normal PC that it NEEDS a dedicated version. You can't just repackage the PC version into the PS3 and call it a day.

Now having said that, program language wise is another issue. But in that case you'll have to convert the PC version no matter what you do.

They just need to make a port for PS4, and phase out PS3 when we will inevitably run into "PS3 Limitations"

besides graphics and a possible lower frame rate the ps3 doesn't have any game breaking limitations. unless people really didn't know that they can swap to a bigger hdd in their ps3

Looking at the specs of the PS4, I already see 2 things that will create "PS4 limitations" for an MMORPG. Sorry to break it to you but every console will limit an MMORPG in some way, the PS3 will not limit the game for years (If ARR even lasts that long) much like the PS2 didn't limit FFXI until years down the line.

The limitation of consoles mainly rests within these 2 categories: Memory and storage. The PS3 and PS4 has stronger memory capabilities but eventually, they both will limit what XIV can do in certain aspects but nothing directly involving main gameplay. So when the PS3 limits XIV and they port it to PS4, where will they port it then when the PS4 limits XIV?

There is literally no reason to own a PS4 for the first year or two.

There's no indication that the PS4's storage won't be expansible. So no, there aren't any "storage limitations" in sight.

As for memory limitations, there's no indication that PC games will ever require more than 4 gb of memory in the upcoming several years, this without mentioning that the PS4's 8 GB will be shared, which is more flexible than usual PC memory.

Even in the sci-fi scenario that sees the PC version overtaking 8 GB of memory required between system and video, assets can be downgraded to fit in the PS4 version only.

So no. There's no possibility for the PS4 version to "limit FFXIV", but mind you, the same can be said for the PS3 version, as it limits only itself.
