SE making a mistake not waiting for ps4?

the PS4 coming out is probably the reason Sony gave SE the go-ahead to resume development for PS3.

Furthermore, I don't see why PS3 and not PS4 release is a problem. Sony kept playstation manufacture open for ages when the PS2 came out, and kept PS2 manufacture open for a long time when the PS3 came out. It's not a biggie.

If it is backward compatible then I can see this not being a big deal until ps3 limitations hold down any future patches/expansions. And they could always re release the game on the ps4 if it did really well i guess.

I didn't think the ps4 would make it by this year, but with the window so close I wonder if SE gave it some serious thought.

PS4 will not be a viable business opportunity for a while, only people who have to have the latest tech will buy the PS4 at release, everyone else will wait until it drops in price which will probably be after Christmas (it always is) the PS3 market is huge and it will be until at least next year.

They will look at the PS4 when they can be sure the console is a success, especially with what people are thinking Sony are planning with it regarding pre-owned games, if they really do prevent using them the console will probably fail, then if SE has ported the game for a failed console they will loose millions again.

Unfortunately there is still the issue of dumbing the game down, to make a simplified version, capable of running on the ps3.
Weather or not the game can be ported to the ps4 is not an issue. The issue is once you make hundreds of animations based on frame limitations in the ps4 and a crap ton of other limitations. You basically cut the knees out from under your own designs.
Just makes me wonder what we have to loose to accommodate an outdated console.
I know we have to loose quite a bit.

Just release for both.

PS3 70 million + consoles in circulation, PS4 a possible 500k-1m after a few weeks I don't even see why they should waste their time there yet.

S-E can release on the PS3 AND wait for the PS4. ;) What's stopping them from releasing a PS4 version down the line?

Lots of criticism of the PS4 because it is not the improvement expected. Because it is so underpowered (compared to next gen expectations) it is possible it will flop totally.

It would be bad planning to develop anything for the PS4 until we see what the market does.

Like other said they wont be a big market for PS4 the first 1year or so but once the market is big enough. Porting the FFXIV over to PS4 should be simple unlike FFXI PS2-->PS3 which they said it be so much work it's like making other mmo this is why i guess they made ffxiv for a ps3 port.

So i see FFXIV on PS4 in 1-2years i be it be release with a pack like they did with Xbox.

Fact is Yoshi P made a deal with Sony, that pretty much /threads it right there. PS4 is a possibility in the future, but making a deal in order to do so is all that matters really.
