Primal weapons: to upgrade or not?

Not sure they said they be other ways of getting primal weps. I know relic quest = garuda and ifrit ex so not sure if they going to change the quest. Or they be other way to enter and fight primal and spam the shit out of it like we did in 1.0

The only items you won't be able to obtain (including things like imperial dalmatica etc) is event gear and Nael earrings / horn. Well from memory. I remember yoshi / dev saying something similar to this.

So we have six primals and six elements - one for each.

Our existing primal weapons have a chance of dealing additional damage of their specific element.

Ramp that feature up. Make it so that all the damage dealt by a primal weapon is of its specific element rather than slashing/piercing/projectile/blunt, while allowing the mage weapons to capitalize on the traits of their specific element if within that discipline or other unique benefits if outside the discipline.

In short, make the weapons situational and useful in exploiting elemental weaknesses - including against rival primals.
A Shiva weapon would then work wonders against Garuda, who has an ice weakness. Likewise an Ifrit weapon would show Shiva who's boss.

Well according to a live letter, MNK is losing elemental fists.

I am sort of under the impression (without starting rumors) is to make way for RDM (the real RDM, not the XI version) to make it's appearance eventually with en- spells.

This primal weapon idea would blow that theory... So nope, I hope it doesn't happen.

I guess there are infinite possibilities on how a weapon can be upgraded. I could suggest some ways but it really does not matter, I trust their judgement and expertice above whatever I could suggest. The reason I would like weapons to be upgradable is because for one I really like the design of some weapons over others, second it really sucks to spam content for something you really like only to leave it behind because it has become obsolete regardless of how much you like that something. If gear is upgradable it becomes one more choice for players instead being forced to always spam for the latest and greatest even if you don't like whatever that may be.

In theory, I'd think that the primal weapons should be relatively similar in strength, but just having that primal's elemental damage / resistance added to them.

Although, if you wanted to do something where the primal weapons were progressive in power, they could set it up where the primal fights were tiered. For instance, Ifrit could be the easiest primal and could be beaten with normal lvl 50 (non-elemental) weapons, then you could use Ifrit's weapons to fight Shiva and so on.

Ifrit -> Shiva -> Garuda -> Titan -> Ramuh -> Leviathan etc.


Hmmm, now I have this strange urge to play Mega Man...

I don't know why everyone always wants their old shit to be upgradable. How is that different from (and better than) just getting something new that's better? We know there will eventually be a cap increase, so my advice is don't get too attached to your lv50 gear.

While it's true that we wont know how stats will change, and they will change, for a BRD... STR was the last you'd want to cap when concerned with DMG. It's AA and WS modifiers were actually DEXmain PIEmid. PIE might be the one to change for the stat change, but DEX should still be it's main DMG modifier.

Also, Ifrit weapons were certainly not the best on all jobs. It was whatever had the highest in DPS in relation to what you could cap in terms of your stat modifiers. If I only had the gear to cap Ifrits then I'd say it was the best choice, but if I had melds that exceeded those caps the better choice would be to move onto a higher DPS weapon like Garuda's to compensate for the stats that spill over if using Ifrit's.

Uh, where are people getting the stats for "levi" and "shiva" stuff? those, along with the game, aren't out yet? ...

It might be easier from a development standpoint to just update the stats on something rather than modeling new equipment every patch, but at the same time it'll get boring quickly holding on to the same stuff.

I think the only things that should be upgradeable are JSE and Relic weapons.
