I miss the fun...I don't know how else to say it. There was something about FFXI that was fun. The grinding was mindless but its was a neccesary evil that we all did as well as the farming. But it was still fun because I would run into friends and they would help or just hang out while I killed all the crawlers. In FFXIV that is missing. However, I have faith that SE will add it in with all their plans. Just from C.E. til now the game has become a lot more enjoyable so I know SE can pull it off.
I would love to see the MOG House and all its features, gardening, decorating etc.
I would also love to see wild chocobos that you can capture and then breed/race.
Also, SUMMONs, its not FF without summons :)

I'm agreed that the game can't be a carbon copy of FFXI. FFXI was fairly successful in its time, but that was 8 years ago. The industry, and people's expectations, have changed. The majority of people playing FFXIV currently have a bias as many of us are longtime FFXI players (myself included), but we and SE have to accept that it's time to think outside the box, to use a cliche.
That said, there are some things I would like to see:
-Mog Houses. However, I'm aware that the time and effort it would take to implement these would probably be prohibitive, but maybe as a feature in an expansion. They were one of my favorite things in FFXI and helped distinguish it for me since player housing in MMOs is pretty rare.
-An AH. the FFXI AH wasn't perfect, but it was still much more efficient and intuitive than the wards system is, even with all the changes that have been made. In fact, I much preferred the AH/MH combo to the retainer system, but I know a changeover would take a lot of man-hours.
-Chocobos/Airships. I know this is well established already, but as an addendum I'd like a breeding minigame that doesn't take weeks and exactly timing logins. I think ideally, everyone should have their own chocobo to encourage attachment to the game, so the ffxi breeding system would be a poor system to go with this idea.
-Character search, as an addition to the useful but convoluted system currently in place, rather than completely replacing it. I also think people should be able to invite people to their party and linkshell no matter where they or the other person are. Both the FFXI and FFXIV systems for party invites are unnecessary hoop-jumping timesinks that don't add anything to the game except mild annoyance.
-Savng the equipment I had on when I changed jobs automatically. This, again, is to reduce the amount of time wasted in menus and increase the time actually doing things
I can't think of anything else offhand.

Definately mog houses. Party seek too.

-
Classes:
- Summoner, Beast Master, Bard, Corsair, Ninja or Thief, Samurai, Dark Knight
Events:
- Dynamis, Divine Might sort of fight, Summon Battles, Salvage type event, Nyzul Tower type event, BCNM/KSNM
Lore / World:
- More cutscenes even if they're not super fancy, More unique environments with little touches, Airships, Chocobos for travel, "History" on market wards to make it more like an AH. Access to a "Unique" area in maps eg: Ru Lude Gardens. More zones with nice weather effects: Tornado/Snowing etc. Let more people join in story and stop requiring 1 person when its just a cutscene........, Mog houses
UI / System
- Better Linkshell controls (Kick anytime, Promote to master, MOTD), Better party system (so leader doesnt need to be in same area), Delivery System, Mail System (messages), Experience Chains.
Animations
- Better animations for just about everything (Ancient Magic is disgraceful), Animation when you change class, Better rank/level animation,
Skills:
- Warp, Teleport, Reraise, Dual-wield, Conserve MP, Magic Boost, HP Boost, MP Boost, Better Magic support as some are just useless and most conjurer spells are nulled on NM's and such.
Monsters
- Wyverns/Dragons
Probably more I cant think of right now.
-
-A search function.
-The party seek feature.
-The ability to do all city story/campaigns.
-SP/XP chains would be nice
-Skill chains/MB (I know we got battle regimine, but it usually glitches, and its just meh.)
-Animations. A lot of the spell/weapon skill animations in XIV imo are just straight up weak looking.
Soloing is all fine and dandy, and the leve's/behests are alright, but I just wish some good old fashion group xping was a bit more common place in the game. I feel less involved with the general population of XIV, unlike XI it felt like a community.

Exp chains
Auction House
Mog House
Delivery box
/assist command
seek party
Pet jobs
Those would all be nice :)

Here are the ideas I want to see brought over from FFXI
1) Chocobo Breading
2) Chocobo Digging (Maby a new DoH class)
3) Chocobo Racing
4) Fishing contest
5) Spawn NMs (ones you pop with a pop item)
6) More tiered Battles (like the Special Faction leves, but implement this in other areas as well)
7) Something like Campaign or Besieged (these where great to fill time while waiting for a group)
8) Fame for missions (add something that encourages people to do quest, they are added but if you are above that rank there is no reason to really experience them.)
9) Something like Burning Circle Notorious Monsters and Kindred Seal Notorious Monsters
10) Instanced battles like Salvage and Assualt. These where perfect for the casual player. Assault was 30mins and salvage was a little longer at 100mins. These kind of events would add substance and fit the casual goals of the game.
11) Linkshell Message
12) Bring back the FFXI's Party Search Feature, the one in game now is not being used at all.
