I just ignore elitist, they don't know how to have fun.
Red Wizards have fun with everyone equally, except elitists for the above statement.
If real life is short, then an MMO's is shorter and shouldn't be taken so seriously.
*Smacks you with a rolled up newspaper* NO. BAD.
I admit I carried around a ton of gear for SMN (and my other jobs), I had no choice if I wanted to perform upto scratch, but I would rather not see my inventory get faceraped in 14 because of needing a certain ringset or a certain staff for a split second every minute. D:
Ontopic - You're always going to get elitists in every walk of life and the best thing you can do is laugh at them and walk away. There are people that want you to perform well and the people like that who are worth it will guide you, talk with you and show you how to do a great job if you're having difficulty. The ones that are not prepared to do this are not worth your time.
The solution to elitism is more cowbell
There's a way to counter "elitism" as everyone understands it.
In fact, the real problem is how people understand "casual play" and "hardcore play".
Casual players are not bad players, they just don't have several hours per day to invest on the game. Likewise, hardcore players are not necessarily good players.
I know people who can't properly do their job even if they spend hours and hours in the game.
Now, imagine a reward system based on player skills. For example, you enter in a dungeon as a WHM, and you get a pool of points. Each time a member dies, you loose points, when you Cure in combat, you gain points, etc...at the end, you got a reward based on the amount of points you have.
This way, if you know your job, you'll get a better reward, and if you don't...well, you can't complain for being a bad player. And a good casual player will be rewarded far more than a bad hardcore player.
Back in 1.XX, who deserved the better drop ? A party that could defeat Ifrit in 10 min without any casualties, or a party that killed it 10 times with a nearly full wipe each time ?
Its a MMO it's not about skill of single players, whats important is the ability to play in a group. In 1.0 casuals been able to beat anything without any problems the only problem is that lots of random groups fail cause they just can't play together and don't communicate.
Absolutely not. No gear swapping while engaged is the best thing to ever happen to this game. I should not have to carry 100 pieces of gear for each job, with 90 of them only being used for 2 seconds every time a specific ability is used, just to be considered "not gimp" on any given job.
My first reaction upon reading the thread title was imagining a group of people starting a LS and having everyone in it run around in the worst gear available at their level. They would always take the scenic route in dungeons, and never complete runs for anything in less than 5 mins before time runs out. Oh, and when stuff like darklight gear drops, everyone passes.
