There are still problems with that as well. SE should have voice chat built in for 2 reasons.

1. it is a standard for ps3 multiplay games.

2. you can't except every ps3 player to have a phone thats gonna sit on mumble for hours people have things called data plans.

Yeah this has always been the concern at the back of my head, and people that I know that are interested in this game and own a console are not as 'tech' heavy as you think they should (Instead of a laptop with a nice wireless headphone. Let's throw in a craptop that's constantly shared by the family/wife/roomate etc. hence sometimes your VOIP get's interrupted because your little brother/husband/roomate is playing something else on craptop).

I mean most console games have in-game voicechat. It kinda would be a necessity to have it in an online game. Even Ps3's second life playstation home (pretty pointless social hub imo) has voicechat. And there has already been foreign language dealings with voicechat features in other games, it's simply helped by just bearing with it or just hitting the mute button.

The one flaw in this argument is that unlike the 360, the PS3 doesn't come with a headset right out of the box. Personally speaking, I would think that anyone that cares enough to grab a headset for their PS3 would be savvy and/or willing enough to use a smartphone/laptop/desktop/tablet to deal with voice chatting with their MMO guild. Also anecdotal evidence that I've heard(from a few years ago admittedly) has pointed out that the voice chatting on the PS3 isn't that great and people don't really use it as much.

And seriously dude, quit whining about people disagreeing with you. It isn't making your position any more attractive.

Also aside from DC universe, this is probably the only other MMO that comes out on a console. Chances are not many people will be familiar with how guilds runs in the game. Of course hardcore players have vents with their clans from FPS shooters and whatnot(or more likely just flat out switched to PC) but were dealing with a wider casual audience here.

The only console MMO that I played in which you could use in-game voice-chat was Phantasy Star Universe on Xbox360 and it was really chaotic. We usually only played through the "Party Chat" which is a great feature but, unfortunately, it's not n PS3, you couldn't talk to PC players anyway and you needed to have all people in your "Friendlist" to invite them in the Party Chat.

Another reason for not including it in the game is that there is few MMORPGs with that feature. I guess that it must be hard to control the in-out of partys of 1000 players at the same time.

So, for all those reasons, I doubt your wish will become true. Mumble, Vent, TeamSpeak, Skype and a few others are the third-party voice chat software you are looking for. Also, if you plan on getting FFXIV on PS3, I suggest buying a USB keyboard if you don't already have one. It is necessary (even if voice-chat would be incorporated in the game)

Aside from the additional development costs and language barrier, there were more concerns with in game voice chat. Harassment (female gamers in particular), but also what about people who don't want to use it? Officially supporting it would give rise to more severe alienation for people who just don't want to use VOIP than not supporting it would for PS3 players. If they supported it, people could argue that it's a "must" for raids and what not because voice chat is "official". By not supporting it, SE is effectively saying "You don't need voice chat to do everything in this game well. Don't listen to anyone who says otherwise".

I'll agree that FFXIV 2.0 may be geared towards a more "casual" audience(personally I've always read the devs' comments as alluding to a more playable FFXIV rather than more casual), but even so, how many casual gamers actually own dedicated game consoles nowadays and play anything other than your typical sports or racing games? How many of those even play MMOs? I don't have all the numbers, but I'd wager it isn't as high relatively speaking. Two of my friends who are waiting for the PS3 version to maybe try it out played FFXI on consoles using a seperate Vent server as well, so there's evidence of that.

That being said, I don't think anyone here is saying "no no no fuck PS3 voice chat never in a million years!!" as much as we're saying "well if they never added it or added it much later, it wouldn't be the end of the world as there are enough solutions out there".

I see. I'm just trying to add some support to those who have probably never played an MMO before. I've had friends asked me if there was in-game voicechat, and told them that there most likely isn't any, you'd have to use vent. Some of them raised an eyebrow at what vent was. It's mainly due to that we've grown up on just chatting through whatever in-game voice chat was supported because it was more convenient that way.

We're probably in the minority, but just want to show that some people do look for that convenience.

1. Dark Souls and Demon Souls don't have voice chat, and they have amazing (and unique) multiplayer. It can't really be called a standard when you have to buy an extra peripheral to use it.
2. Wifi.

Otherwise, guess who's not using voice chat?


Seriously, my point still stands. Even if it were implemented, barely anyone would use it simply because there is already a better alternative in place. They don't even NEED voice chat. I know several of people who participate in endgame events without mics.
