That's a rather separate issue and doesn't justify placing a rule and then breaking it (if the allegations are true, and if they aren't, all they have to do is denyong them). Also, not everyone that has an active account has legacy status. People tend to confuse the two things as one and the same, but they aren't.
Which is why you normally try your best to invite those that have enough patience and time to test properly. Mind you, as the seething negativity on this forum demonstrates, it's rather obvious that the current community of active accounts isn't exactly prone to be overly forgiving of mistakes.
In any case, once they stated that only active accounts were eligible, they should have stuck by that rule. That, of course, assuming but not conceding that the allegations about it are true, of which I have yet to see any conclusive evidence (while the deletion of the related thread kind of looks rather bad).
Getting in closed beta is pretty much a crap shoot to get in just as much as alpha is. But at this point they usually give keys to websites to give away but often those keys are gated behind having some kind of preimum sub on the site, but some sties gave them away free if I remember correctly.
It won't be until open beta where anyone who wants to get in can. Open beta won't be until like a couple weeks before the game is ready to launch.
Maybe it's because those of us who have been active players are at a greater risk to spill some beans to the community because we're overly excited about alpha and need to tell someone.
Kinda silly that a lot of people who have stuck around for this long didn't get into the final Alpha phase.
Oh well, there's always next time.
