No, but when you are going for a high fantasy realism and a lot of your flora looks like paper origami.. it might be good to make another model. (WoW does it too - and I get why of course, more players that can play).

For pieces of content that you cant really scale (because its 2d) then at some later make another one. Skyrim's grass isnt just in Skyrim there many games that have that kind of grass - its not some technical rare piece of model work.

Even Dark Souls that ran on the ps3 has a similar type of grass (though their tree leaves are super 2d lol).

Anyway like I said previously when they get time they should consider it.

Make a sucky grass model for eh computers but there are a lot of computers out there that can handle much more then what even SE handed out in FFXIV 1.0.

Things like flora decals and density are often sliders in games - I see no reason why they cant do that now

I will mention that when I had my old laptop with the GeForce 9600M GT, the foliage really caused my game to lag like crazy. Especially outside of Limsa Lominsa; my game ran incredibly slow, even though the foliage was very low-resolution. My God it was like utter hell there. Even my desktop at the time could not process the game, and it had a GeForce 260 GTX along with a good 1st gen I7 that is high-spec and 8GB of RAM. Though everyone knows that the graphics engine for 1.0 wasn't utilized the right way, so we can all agree on that :)

In the end this is what it boils down to. Given the amount of time they had to work on the game, though, I'm content with what they have.

Given the total time I think its silly, but I understand 2.0 has started in an extremely short amount of time. Hence why I said if it must add it later, but it will be good for graphic longevity.

Either SE gets grass to look like that on low settings or I won't play XIV ever again.

Show me an MMO that doesn't run slow as hell AND has grass like that, and I'll care about how the grass looks in ARR.

omg can we get off the grass thread plz. graphics of that caliber in 2.0 will lag u so bad it wil be 1.0 all over again. imo i would not like to have that much of grass enhancement now or later. i want more content more than anything as long as the graphics can be handled without me lagging then i can live with 2.0 grass graphics.

Honestly, I think that when and if the development team gets around to a DirectX 11 (11.1) patch in the future, ARR will possibly look just as good. I believe so, but jeebus, look at the grass on that Skyrim with 100 mods. Could ARR look like that in the future? O_O

The whole screenshot looked great, albeit a shit ton of grass was in the screen and it looked awesome as well lol.

Also, I care how my environments look - dont want to delay the game but I would like to see the quicker modifications taken care of in a graphic update. The extreme patch or something lol w/ relase of dx updates, could try and see if Microsoft would pay for some of the dev. if SE made a DX9 vs DX11 video.. Microsoft loves crazy changes .. lol

I would be one of the first to hate on the crappy ass grass in ARR (just like the crappy ass animation) but PC screenshots always depend on specs and in this case a billion mods made by people who aren't even involved in development.

If you're gonna compare, in this case we should compare console versions. And Skyrim looks like greased vomit on consoles.
