Religion should play a bigger role in ARR

I like the idea of the woodsin counter. I always wondered why the Gridanians were so worried about it but that I was apparently immune, able to slaughter animals by the hundreds for no reason, and chop at all the trees for as long as I liked, and no elementals ever got pissed at me over it.

I'm confused, what exactly is the correlation between religion and memorable zones?

No I hate religious storylines.. more science and magic...

The way I see it, adding a sense of culture and mythology to spice up locations. Take the temples of Zelda games like Ocarina of Time. Gives depth and character to other wise bland locations.

Example: Ancient abandoned Cathedral possessed with blood thirsty demons > Old abandoned warehouse overrun with feral animals.

It would be interesting to add a twist that involved localized gods to each region. Even if it were as simple as incorporating buffs/debuffs depending on how much you did to gain their favor or piss them off. In addition it would give a good excuse to add quests that appease them or even ones to piss them off in a show of defiance. basically saying you can debuff im still good enough to pwn this zone. A good team would be able to tie it all in somehow and add even more in depth lore to the game as well as magics, ruins, dungeons etc. It could only help not hurt a game to do so. Unless of course the game revolved around a system at had no gods or lore at all, then it would be conflicting. Seeing as how we've already been introduced to gods (the twelve) and demi gods so-to-speak (primals) why not make them more of an integral part of the game. Then again they may already have that planned and were just jumping the gun.

Well, I liked Tales of the Abyss. I mean, I'm Catholic/Christian, and it the story REALLY made me realize how people rely on religion so much as to dictate their lives.

I also agree with the woodsin. The Gridania storyline heavily relied on the woodsin in the city-states' story, but outside of that storyline, it meant nothing.

Ishgard scares me. I'm not sure I want to visit it, because they sound so hostile.

I like the woodsin counter as well. It reminds me of the fomor and tonberry hate system in XI. Personally I hope we get to see The Twelve at some point. We never saw an actual depiction of Altana. At the very least, I want our choice of guardian to become more important. We could have exclusive quests for each guardian, and maybe a means to convert to other guardians.

Would love to see some more Shinto references as well, hopefully in an "Oriental"/Far East Asian expansion to introduce samurai, ninja, etc. Norg did not quite cut it.
