Seriously, has this guy been on the same forums as we have? It'd be full on rage war. Would make the Garlean invasion look like kittens trying to get out of the litter box..

It was an overall concept and functionality i was bring up, I'll never argue that blizzard didn't polish and play a major part in setting the "standard" we have today as far as the UI goes and a lot of other things too, but WoW did little that was new as you said, they just did it more polished, eventually.
It did have enough UI and other issues in the 1st months it's self as have all mmo's.
But EQ was just the earliest example i personally remember, but there were a number between those dates (SWG/DaoC for example) that did have a much more similar UI, which is why i stated and others.
But lol at the bias comment, maybe my rose tinted glasses just have a little less tint on them then yours.
Many MMO's/games achieved a lot for their time but that passed and others such as WoW took the titles.
As i'm sure eventually something will do to WoW/CoD and a number of other titles, it happens games and people move on with newer games/people eventually taking their place..
WoW came along at time when MMO popularity was really just getting some steam under its belt, and WoW was the best option available, and came from a long franchise of well know and loved games.
DoaC,EvE,WoW,SWG and other will all have a place in my mind as greats of their time.
With EvE being the only one i still follow.
But to make the point i only stopped playing WoW as the number of people i had know for many years gaming slowly dwindled as we all grew up and had other things in our lives, add to that the new content didn't interest me in the way it had previously, i went looking for something new.
I have no issue with the game in any form, it just no long holds any interest for me beyond nostalgia.
But still sorry OP, I'd only intended my 1st comment to be a reply to someone not this :p
They are changing it a lot. Lots of things different from E3 build to Gamescom build.
I am also sad to see they changed the icons for Jobs, I really dont like the gold engraved style, i much prefer the current setup. This is what I mean:

But it is such a tiny thing that I'm just nitpicking.
I also find this to be very disgusting and out of place, but I know there will be likely a toggle for it so no worries:

These are the only 2 things i can think of that I dislike, everything else I think is absolutely fantastic, i love the design, the functionality, and placement (though you can move it). The additions are also welcomed such as X/Y on minimap and Gil/gear slots always visible.
The only thing I don't like about the default UI are the conflicting styles between the UI and the chat bubbles. They should have either made the chat bubbles same futuristic style, or the whole UI the old-ish chat bubble style...
I dont mind the UI being a bit futuristic, who knows, it might fit into the new world. Since we're getting magitek mounts and all, it seems they are going into that direction, so a bit of a tech-UI is fine.
Although not on counsel Originally I really think the granddaddy of all Multiplayer FPS needs to mentioned.
Quake III Arena. December 2, 1999 on PC
Dreamcast Oct 22, 2000
Playstation 2 March 26, 2001
So clearly it came before everything on your list. Plus it just had a kick ass sound track.
Sonic Mayhem puts together some of the best adrenaline pumping tracks. id really got
a lot right and set the ball rolling in the Multiplayer FPS genre.
I hope the UI lends itself to right click gear to equip instead of drag and drop.
I think we'll see a lot more things like that as they move on with the PS3 and PC UI's, though i'll try out the PS3 one on my PC and a m8 is going to be using the PC (he hopes) on the PS3 lol.
But hopefully it'll just be one UI that works with both at the same time :D
