Humor is humor. It's not like Hildibrand is some obscure Japanese reference to anything. He's funny because he's so dumb.

Trying not to put words into the OP's mouth, but i don't believe he was trying to say that his presence doesn't belong in the game because of it's nature. Just that he's seen the sometimes over the top championing of the character (one that he doesn't share the same opinions about). And was merely curious if anyone found the character/storyline not quite as great as advertised.
And as i posted earlier i feel the same way as the OP as far as finding it not so humorous. Obviously humor is subjective. I don't think people are silly or foolish for finding it funny/comical. Just, i had literally till this point not talked to ANYONE myself about the questline who wasn't absolutely in love with it. So i don't blame him for seeking out to see if there was ANYONE who didn't enjoy it quite as much as everyone else.
I hope u burn in hell, OP.
I can't help but feel he is a sideshow that I don't have to bother with, he doesn't really appeal to me. I like a lot of the humour in FFXIV (the brothers from the miner's guild are excellent!) but this guy just doesn't tickle my funny bone. A little too in-your-face with his humour style. I think he'd be alright in a cartoon/anime ...like Pokémon or something. :p
He's not in my face if I don't want him to be, though, and that works for me. *shrug* Something in this game for everyone, right?
You two are prime examples of why I often hate humanity.

I also think it's a pretty redundant character, But I can certainly see how a character like that can help give the players sort of a "breather" in between. I mean, when you look at what's going on in the world- having that red moon about the destroy us all, the garlean empire trying to take over, etc etc; These are pretty powerful things going on-lore wise, so I feel like this character helps sorta keep the in game world feel like "everything will be ok", Not sure if people understand what I'm saying here. my point is, while Hildebrand is a very silly and predictable character, that's the point. A bit of a psychological break to the otherwise destructive lore.
Hildibrand is my hero.
