Why would you ever play ARC? I Hate the Class System.

Yes because we all know this terribly broken game we are now playing is how it will stay forever, they planned the job system more around ARR, ARR could very well have things jobs have a hard time soloing but classes are a lot more efficiant.

Also you may hardly have to solo, but there are people who prefer to solo than party, think of the BST from FFXI, if you enjoyed solo play you leveled it, I would ask people "why should I level BST" I would get told "its the best solo job" so obviously people choose to solo over party when they can, this is the point of it all and thinking ahead to ARR.

Classes are hardly "Built around solo" they are built as a extension of the Job system. The only reason they are more suited to solo play is because of the homoginized "Best skillz evar" like Sentinel, featherfoot, bloodbath, second wind, yada yada all being able to be combined into everyone having all the same skills available regardless of class.

The class system still suffers from the exact thing that caused them to implement the job system in the first placet, everyone uses the exact same skills as everyone else. Class system is just downright boring and hamstrings the future possibillity of new jobs coming to the game.

If things stay similar to what they are now, staying on a class gives you access to a wider range of abilities from other classes which can enhance your build. Cure, Second Wind and Sentinel to help keep you alive, Sanguine Rite for MP, Raise for party deaths, etc... Depends on what you're doing but sometimes going on a class can be nice for the added versatility like soloing or in small parties, as was the original intent of classes under the class/job system.

As we've already seen some of the class specific gear is really nice and it can be melded on top of that. Depending on how it goes you could get some really nice gear going.

Whether or not people actually take advantage of these things or if they're even worth taking advantage of has yet to be seen. Well as it currently exists there are very few situations where its worth taking advantage of. Archer can do more dmg than brd, but most of the time you want the songs anyway if your allowing one in your group. As for THM there's like one or two situations in the game where some people want to use it over blm. The whole soloing thing seems like a moot point to me, you don't need to switch to a class to solo.

The class gear isn't worth loosing your job skills in almost all cases. Like for example, how often do people go gld over pld for something? I can see the same thing happening with Arcanist.

Finding another game isn't necessary, and I'm dealing with it just fine. Just pointing out that I don't care for the class system. I was interested in seeing how many people felt the same.

Not gonna lie, I think they could do better but it seems to be here to stay so I'm going to trust they're doing it for a reason.

What has yet to be seen though is the changes they're making to class/job abilities. We've seen that DRG has access to a new spear throw skill, which leads me to believe they're removing the throwing weapons from the game. They're clearly revamping things, especially in regards to the class/job system so we'll have to see how it goes. Perhaps they'll make classes more worth playing.

So cliche, an overly speculating thread on something we don't have any details yet. The OP always end up wrong 90% once we get to play the thing or we get more info.

On the other hand, I agree with you that the whole class/job system isn't a particularly fun system that is pointless in most situations.

I think this is the last existing problem with FFxiv.

They're trying to hold onto this class/job system that just doesn't work. Many of us playing, hate it.

IMO, keep all the current Jobs, remove the Classes and replace the Classes with such Jobs like DNC, SAM, NIN, BLU, THF, SCH, RDM, etc.

I'm just speculating based on how the game is now. Granted, a lot of things are going to change when 2.0 comes out, but a lot of you have the tendency to act like 2.0 is a whole new game, and as much as they want to tell you that it is, it isn't. Even if they wanted it to be, it would be impossible to make a game that fast, so it's logical to assume that many of the skills will be the same. Besides, many of the skills shown in the gameplay footage are in fact the same.

Even if that isn't the case, and even if they totally revamp the skills to make every class totally unique and different from its respective jobs, I'll be honest, I'll still hate the class system. It's just doesn't feel canonical to me. If they give the classes their own individuality (which is what they would really need to do to make them useful) then why not just add the traditional jobs to the game instead? I would much rather be choosing if I want to play rdm or smn than some job that never existed before and smn. I want to have a nostalgic feeling about the jobs I play. For all the effort they're putting into adding things from other FF games like megatek, crystal tower, and golden saucer, they sure are butchering up the job system.

I like you cos you want SCH added, but just wait to see how it works in ARR, for more jobs they can have multiple jobs steam from the same class or require multiple classes to get one job, some examples using your jobs..

THF: remove daggers from GLA and make a new rogue class for THF.

DNC: for the daggers could come from Rouge as well, just a different story.

RDM: new class called fencer.

SCH: cross between arcanist (for books), CON and THM (need them all 30)

NIN: also from the rogue class.

BLU: make a whip class and it comes from that.

They can add as many jobs as they want just needing a different combinations of classes needing to be leveled and a story that uses all classes involved.

They lost me when they started creating class-only weapons and armor.

Yeah but whats the point? They could just delete the classes and have jobs only. It would even make their job easier.
