Can Meteor's next job not be melee?

I was hoping he would become a Machinist when Dawntrail was announced because of the Wild West theme in the New World

The male Midlander Hyur that is used as the stand-in for the player's character in the opening movies, trailers and propaganda/promotional artwork (Ardbert in ShB is a direct First Shard copy of him). The name is short for 'Meteor Survivor', and was named such in the story recap disc that came with the Collector's Edition of ARR. 1.0 players on this forum used to call him 'Derplander' due to the silly faces he used to pull in the early 1.0 and ARR trailers. That's not really used though and is more an affectionate nickname though.

Really, call him whatever you wish, but the important thing is, he's meant to represent your character, no matter what race/gender and appearence they may have.

Have yall not seen flames of truth? Grandpa mage was cool as hell in that & it's one of my favorite cutscenes in game.

he tried archer but he didnt like it. now he plays melee... what is wrong with it?

You know, thematically I struggle to see how Reaper is supposed to connect to the initial themes of Evercold. Like there's certainly a lot more that could be revealed that might more strongly connect the job to the expansion, but looking back, you could at least see the thematic link between Dark Knight and Shadowbringers, as well as Paladin and Endwalker, right away. You'd think in an expansion where we'll become the Warrior of Fire, that Black Mage would be the natural choice. That said, if we do end up going to the shard that succumbed to water, I think repping both Black Mage and White Mage would be a lot cooler as I mentioned in the initial post rather than just being a Black Mage here for Evercold. But what about Summoner bringing the aether of Ifrit?
