That is to say, our experiences aren't indicative of the game as a whole. Maybe there's something profoundly wrong with the server you're on or even the whole data center? I'm on an European DC, for the record. That, or you have a horribly bad luck, or maybe your behaviour is to blame, even if you mean well.

The stalker thing, if true, sounds awful and I'm sorry. The only thing I can suggest is asking your former FC leaders for a name - who knows, maybe they've kept a SS of the chat? If not, ask if it happens again in the future. I guess you could change your character's name if/when you transfer as well.. good luck in any case!

If the stalker went so far as to look up your character on the SE FFXIV website changing your name won't help. There is a plainly visible ID number associated with the character on the site and that number never changes no matter where you go or what you name yourself.

the whole chat thing if even one person is offended to me just makes the game anti social which for a MMO ain’t a very good thing since it discourages communication between players which to me is a bad thing since it can drastically impact human interaction and even discourage the possibility of making friends along the way.

Admittedly I left WoW awhile ago (BFA) but my experience with WoW chat was VERY different from yours. Politics was rampant. So was very abusive behavior towards anyone who varies in the slightest from the hive mind. Shaming in dungeons of people who maybe can't perform at the top level even in basic dungeons. No thanks. Lets not bring that whole mess to FFXIV

I was only able to speak on my experience in WOW which ended in 2019. Someone on Reddit recently let me know that their chat has shifted since then, but unfortunately not all of their issues are gone. One of the last times I logged into WOW they were spewing hateful rhetoric about the LGBTQ+ community which is something FFXIV would never allow.

I'm uncertain if WOW updated their TOS regarding abusing the kick system, or perhaps actually began enforcing it, but during the time I played it was not just common but celebrated among players to kick people for messing up even one single mechanic, or kicking them upon finding out the player was doing the content for the first time.

But the reason I brought those things up as specific examples was to highlight the difference in the communities for you. Because sometimes WOW players come over and they have the exact kind of 'whiplash' that you are experiencing right now. Behavior that was acceptable there, isn't acceptable here.

I should've been a LITTLE more specific here! You do still have to say something that violates their TOS, if you say something benign like "I don't like spiders" then someone can't just decide that you hurt their feelings and report you. It still has to be a legitimate report. They have the rule in place and written the way it is for things like sharing crude jokes among friends or an FC. Squenix recognizes that you're going to talk to your friends and your friends may be okay with inappropriate topics, so they have it set up in a way that if everyone around you is okay with it, you can say as much inappropriate stuff as you want. But if even one person isn't okay with it, then it's not okay!

But without knowing the specifics of what you think you might've done (which you're not obligated to share) I can only speculate for you! The above may not even apply to you, although it's good to keep in mind.

All that being said - I saw in another comment where you said that nobody you know ever wants to provide the name of the person who appears to be following you around. They're not breaking any rules by not divulging that info... but that's still inconsiderate of them. I'm not sure you're in the environment you need to be in!

Idk about interactions in WoW being carefree. Every dungeon run I tried to strike up some chatter in I was met with total silence. Asking in Stormwind for some help of lf guild also total silence while surrounded by people. In my expert roulettes the last few days I have struck up a silly chat with the people I was matched with. There is always people chatting in the cities as well in ff. My experience in WoW was a lot different from yours. FF for me has proven to be more social and friendly mmo by far.

There's a lot of entitlement that comes with the general XIV community. "You don't pay my sub" is exhibit A. You ask a healer to actually do damage, "you don't pay my sub." You ask a dancer to dance partner someone/use standard step. "you don't pay my sub." So asking people to play their jobs correctly is already an uphill battle because a lot of people don't want to learn. They don't realize that they don't pay your sub either and they're just wasting everyone else's time with that attitude.

That aside, you can't really be all that confrontational. That's why everyone's so passive aggressive.

I'm curious about the wording of the email you received along with your suspension though, what part of the ToS did they cite that you broke? I've been suspended once (3 day suspension), a couple years ago, for "Swearing/offensive language" and "Disruption of gameplay." They can have the swearing charge, I used to be pretty loose with my language, though I don't think I ever swore at someone. The disruption of gameplay part was complete crap though, I don't grief people. That'd be a waste of my own time as well and I don't really feel the need to get my kicks from making other people miserable.

Yes, I have contacted the GMs in regard to it however they can't do anything because I have no name to provide which only makes this more annoying.

you could nicely explain something, and they will find offense and do not want to be proven wrong.

Worse part is the game masters will find any language offensive even if nothing offensive or disrespectful was said.

I have played wow for 14+ years and I find WoW to be nontoxic, you can be carefree interact with players and 99% of the time no one gives a dam, far more laid-back atmosphere so long as you are at least somewhat pulling your weight, and no one will complain.

Hello everyone! to give even more context, I used to be on the Novice Network in Cactuar and the OP would always talk about very inappropriate things and made almost everyone uncomfortable. Its odd to me that now OP's resorted to complaining on the forums and unable to grasp the negative effect OP's had on others, just OP's own personal truth. It resorted (funnily enough) to a community effort to make sure OP was kicked to prevent anyone from being harmed from his comments. OP made alts that would revenge kick people that kicked him (which when one mentor kicked the OP, they immediately know they were going to be kicked as well for the greater good of the NN community), and the other mentors were quick to kick OP's alt(s). So OP's complaint about being passive-aggressive, is ironic (I think that's the proper term here?) considering he was the passive-aggressive individual. Please just make sure this thread dies, the problem is completely on himself. It's up to him if he's willing to change for the better of not only others, but himself as well.

The only reason I'm so skeptical of these is because I've been playing the game since alpha. I'm active and social, have had people who dislike me - all that petty drama stuff (hey, I'm only human) and yet have never gotten banned, reported, etc.
I just have to wonder, what kind of circles do you frequent where this is such a big problem?

Either I'm extremely lucky, or.... Well, you know!
I'd look within. Often times, when the whole world seems to be in the wrong, some introspection is in order.

You were semi-believable until you posted this. There are many players who play both games that will be happy to confirm that is not true.

Regardless, Dawntrail is bringing us new tools that should take care of most stalker issues. The Blacklist functions are getting a major overhaul in-game, and the Lodestone is getting privacy options added that will allow you to choose to hide your character profile on Lodestone from others.

So wait until Dawntrail is released. Enable the new tools as appropriate (both in-game and on Lodestone) then transfer your character off Cactuar.

If you continue to have problems with other players reporting you, accept that what you might think is "respectful" isn't respectful after all. If you can't figure out what the problem is, give the Prohibited Activities policy a thorough read because it has multiple examples of speech that crosses the line by SE's standards (expand the sections marked "key points" to see the examples).

Most players never run afoul of the GMs just talking casually in chat channels with other players. This game doesn't have the mass report auto-squelch that WoW has so it's on you to learn what's causing the GMs to hand out those bans.
