Pre-orders: Faith/No Faith, FOMO/No Risk

I'll pre-order, probably the CE, though that matters less as you can get the CE bonuses later. I already know I will play DT so I might as well just get the perks for pre-ordering it. I do have a bit of faith that SE learned the importance of having replayable content and it sounds like they are going to right the ship on that end at least. Job design is the only sticking point I have but if the content is interesting enough I will keep playing regardless.

I'll be preordering because it's the newest instalment in a game series I want to play when it launches, simple as that – and if I'm going to buy it then it would be silly to miss out on the items that you can get for committing to buy it.

Broadly speaking, I think that pre-ordering is a bad idea for consumers. I want to see reviews first so that I can understand if the game has problems and hear others talk about their experiences with the system. If it sounds like a game I would enjoy after that, then I buy it.

However, if I played the previous game in the series and feel like it gave me a baseline for understanding what the next game will be like and a trust that the devs can deliver, then that significantly diminishes any need for others to vet the product.

And with an MMO like FF14, that's doubly so. I'm literally already playing the game, and an expansion is going to be tagged onto it that will do little to change the fundamentals of the experience. So that means it comes down to one simple question: am I going to keep playing FF14?

If I'm done with FF14, then there's no reason to buy the expansion. But if I'm going to keep playing and paying a monthly subscription, then it seems silly to not buy the new content that will give me more stuff to do.

Based on the lead-in to Dawntrail, I have my doubts about whether the story will be good. But I'll give it a chance. And hopefully the gameplay content will continue to be fun, even if there are many places I think it could improve. And maybe some of those improvements will come? We'll see.

So yes, I'm going to pre-order.

The earrings have historically only given you +30% EXP if you're 10 levels below max or lower. So technically it will still give you +30% from 90 to 91.

But will it help a lot with leveling to 100? Nah.

No, the earrings will only provide bonus XP up to level 90.

good point, if you're already at 90 with everything, the earrings are completely pointless.
