How would you like an open world PvP zone?

Open PvP zone? Probably not right this moment. I'd rather the first step being able to duel out in the world, given there's an absolute catalog of awesome locations that you only see once for a side quest. Make that so you can opt out of being harassed with requests and you're golden.

I imagine that'd require unique values for damage reduction and potency. Five people are hard-pressed to kill a lone Paladin in FL, for example. A one-on-one duel with those parameters would be like two polar bears blapping each other with overcooked linguine.

I mean in no reality would it ever take after Frontline values but yes, there'd need to be a rule or two in place and a method to end the duel if it's a never-ending matchup.

Might work. The usual problem with open-world dueling is that the person offering the duel usually does so because they see they have an edge, then the challenged player draws the same conclusion and declines it. That said, the odd battle would definitely add a bit of spice when one is wandering around looking for an NPCs lost goat.

As someone who experienced the disaster that was Warhammer...the devs should never be stupid enough to waste time on open world PVP, it's the absolute worst thing in gaming ever.

If you genuinely like the idea of open world PVP, it's a dream that nobody has ever succeeded at. How it works in practice is horrible and has a long list of problems that I could go off on. So at best, FFXIV should wait for somebody to invent good open world PVP then copy it, but it will probably never happen in this kind of game, it'd have to be a totally different sort of game or something because it has all been tried before and it doesn't work in practice, it's really terrible.

One zone. Not open world pvp in general, which is what I feel like is causing you to feel ill about it but a single zone. Because quite frankly free access to non-duty PvP is so limited it is a joke.

I'd rather a company like SE actually attempts it, it is in a shit phase, we give feedback, then it gets improved upon than it forever to be a fever dream and us twisting thumbs or hurling ptsd experiences left and right.

I want them to TRY it.

I really feel that some people have PTSD, as soon as the phrase "open world PVP" is in front of them, the emotional trauma kicks in and prevents further discussion. So unfortunately the distinction between a small, optional zone and a forced, open-world PvP becomes irrelevant.

That's not intended as any insult, I just see that in those cases it's rather difficult to convince someone. However I do feel that a zone is a very reasonable goal for exactly that reason, someone like Waalter like very unlikely to be affected by a zone since he/she could just avoid it, and the effort spent on it would be far less than OW PvP.

It'd be pretty cool if in the future, they decided to let you choose to be a WoL or WoD to keep the balance and have open world pvp with that premise.

I don't think that pvp in FF can ever feel decent with the lack of CC, and that massive gcd/delay. People already quit after rank 25 rewards because it's just not fun to play.

Full support. If SE is in the mood to try something truly different, open world pvp sounds like a great outlet. I agree it should be only one zone, but one that could be easily accessible without having to go out of your way to access it.
