A few concerns about Pictomancer

My only concern for this choice of job is that it is the job from FF6 and specifically it was Relm Arrowny. It's more about sketching monsters and then being able to bring them to life to do an attack than simply painting ice and it makes a cold attack happen. If this sounds a bit familiar, that is because the job is sort of like Blue Mage except the person doesn't have to get hit by the attack to learn the attack. Technically, the skill can also apply to making temporary objects as well and in some cases, depending on setting, it is possible to use the same magic to create permanent objects that are within the scope of someones knowledge. Given the system we got right now I just don't think they are going to be able to do the job the full justice it deserves much like the summoner.

They look like you are the casual player: raiding for only a bit over a month and only clearing the first 2 floors of the current tier. So reading from you about what casual players do and what you think savage and ultimate prog people do feels a bit off.

The difficulty of savage isn't from the fights alone, it's dealing with the community that wants to do savage. From my experience, you always recruit for the max number of days possible and then expect to do less, because if someone tries to do a 3 day a week savage, the group absolutely will crumble to two days a week unless someone is literally recruiting and booting the second someone can't make 3 days. And also this tier was kind of bad because if someone didn't get into the early waves of people going full tilt through it, the group probably walled on p10s for a while and then either somehow managed to push through or just crumbled and disbanded.

Also, I'm not sure I'd call content where people are basically forced into a semi-static mercenary life "good content", considering how much dependency this content has on about 1% of the population putting diagrams and guides on the internet just so people can even stand a chance at doing them in a reasonable amount of time. Without freaking youtube and twitch savage and ultimate would be as bad as criterion savage and completely abandoned outside people bashing their skulls in. That isn't even taking into account that the body check hell they forced on people is basically softcore ultimate that no one really asked for. (Oh I'm just waiting for the next person to come in here and say "But people asked for harder content" again and then having to point out that was in regards to the non-hardmode content, not the savage and ultimate).

Just play a job that you like the aesthetic more of, I don't understand why people think every job should be catered to them. I don't play White Mage cause I think it looks goofy, should Yoshi-P personally apologize to me and change it to my liking too? Should MCH and GNB be removed because they aren't "fantasy enough" according to some people? There'll be a whopping 20 other jobs to play when DT releases, just play one of those.

Bring on the floofy mismatched pajama pants! More variety is a good thing! This is final fantasy. Mismatched pajama pants are part of it's legacy.

and yet I'm not the one making unsubstantiated claims about a jobs usefulness based on it's spell effects which I'm fairly certain most players doing harder content turn off anyways. heck i turned mine off years ago so i could see telegraphs better in casual potd content

unless i misinterpreted your original post and you were actually trying to critique the mundanity of the job pressing the same buttons over and over again for the length of the fight, in which case I would bring up that's pretty much every job now played "correctly" within the 2 min burst window meta of EW and FFXIV's flowchart fight design

When I saw the first bit of the intro, I thought "Splatoon", Will Pictomancers be able to swim around in their paint?

I’m happy with it. The colours are a bit cartoony but I find that actually not bad. It’s kinda funny and cute. I’m just glad it’s a support caster. No res so I’m guessing summoner may be actually keeping their res for Dawntrail even though back in EW the devs said summoner kept their res by the skin of their teeth.

So I’m guessing pictomancer will be the bard/dancer of the casters. I’m totally okay with that. Plus as an artist irl I’m super excited!
