Fantasy archtypes missing from FFXIV:
A magic class with a single dagger. Usually its Necromancer like, but could also work for a druid like job.
A job that wields a symbolic vigil such as an ankh, pendent, etc. Casters don't have to just use wands, staves, or orbs.
An Onmyoji type job that wields a lamp, and tags. This job has been suggested by Yoshi P in the past.
A crossbow. This is an obvious pick for a ranger, and I really hope if beastmaster is a thing, that it isn't the type of weapon used, or that if it is, that since it would be a limited job, they wouldn't mind a regular job still getting its own version of the weapon. I suppose one could wield a light crossbow, and the other could wield a heavy crossbow.
A Zhue Grabbing claw would make for a unique martialist type weapon. Its similar to a whip, but it has a claw on the end.
A scimitar would make for a unique sword look in the future. I hope that if it appeared, it would be on a spellsword type class.
African throwing knives would be unique, though they have a very odd design. Its fascinating.
Uromi would make for another whip class type of a weapon. It was half sword and half whip, and would be badass.
A bell for geomancer would be lovely. I do NOT want a geomancer that uses anything else. I want it to be pure to the series, and when people suggest any other weird weapon for them, I get upset. Reinvent the combat since the mechanics can't be weather based on locales. Just make it a weather themed job that works as dps. And no Geo is NOT similar to Astrologian, or White Mage. I'm so sick of hearing that. I wish it was never in the Astrologian quests because of how fans tend to assume things could never work.
Gunshield. Its a thing of the past. Look it up. Would be an interesting thing.
A rosary for a priest type of job. I know they aren't always popular, but it isn't the worst thing when done correctly. I'm not even a Christian, and I enjoy priest type of healers sometimes. They have interesting lore when they have different ways to customize their faith. I really enjoy how they are in Baldurs Gate 3 with the endless options to express the archetype.
Point is, if they want it. Square Enix can do it. We are now at a point where jobs are going to take extra work and creativity to pull off, and I think its great.

Nah. There are still plenty of weapon types left, and even existing weapons can be made to look, and feel different by changing character's battle stance when their weapons are drawn.
Plenty more weapon ideas left but not as many jobs.
I think you're looking at it from an archetypal fighting game perspective than a FF/ RPG one. In that respect, there's still plenty of options left.
In fact, I kind of wish they would be a bit more daring with their choices and delve more into FF's history to give us something a little different and out there like Setzer or Rune's jobs from FFVI. The "super cool" power fantasy classes are getting kind of boring, though that's clearly where the money and popularity is.

I can understand the amount of realistic / practical weapons becoming narrower, but I don’t think that applies to something like Final Fantasy where people have used Harps, Flutes, Mega-phones, Books, Dolls, Balls (lol) and all sorts of weird and impractical weapons. Hell FFIX has those giant tennis racquet staves.
I feel like there’s still tons of cool weapons they could give new jobs in ffxiv. And personally I always prefer the novel/unexpected weapons, like Scholar/Summoner’s books or Astrologian’s star globes
