I miss HW

No one is asking for the game to go back to that time. There is people who just prefer that time period. Why do people always come after people who enjoy that era saying we only like that era because of "nostalgia glasses" and try to devalue peoples opinion on when they enjoyed the game the most. Just because you don't like that period doesn't mean others cant. I miss having a group of friends who i would play with for hours at a time when it came out which none of them play anymore and all i have is memories and I'm lucky if the friends i do have left I'm able to even play with here and there now. Asking people how they can like that period and listing off your own personal dislikes about what you listed earlier about that era in a way that sounds like you think people shouldn't like it devalues peoples genuine memories while you pass it off as "rose tinted glasses".

I acknowledge HW’s faults and understand that it was highly flawed and there are things I 100% don’t miss (no cross world PF, CD’s not resetting, accuracy etc)

But the “feeling” I’ll call it of the game, the still mostly unknown world, the different classes feeling unique, the fact the game made you actually work for what you achieved, it all just feels more like what I want out of an MMO compared to modern 14

I agree im not saying it was a perfect period but i still genuinely enjoyed it. The world and the game still felt like an mmo with a sense of exploration and learning the jobs i played. I think there are improvements in modern ff14 that has benefitted the game but i also think if they kept heavasward style of gameplay with todays modern improvements to me i think it would still be a good game. I loved the gameplay and medieval and high fantasy stuff of the expansion and exploring the zones for the first time since it was the first expansion with flying.

A lot of what made early XIV feel like an MMO was no PF and no world travel. That addition has rather made it feel less like an MMO, but its QoL for many.


you used to not be able to just queue up for EX fights or raids, had to have full parties, and then go to the entrances (for raids anyway, EX fights just didn't let you queue DF)


I don't think crafting in HW was difficult, it was just tedious. I hated crafting and I could still do it. Everyone says it required skill, but you could macro all of it. Even melding was possible for non-crafter mains, as I was able to and I didn't have tons of gil back then.


I think a lot of the "complexity" of HW is overblown. Job balance was terrible because of the damage type debuffs. PLD was unwanted in raids because DRK had magic def CDs and every tankbuster in Alexander was magic based.



Some call that fun but I just found it boring. I didn't like the way DRK played back then, I liked how PLD played.

And yet one of those did not exist until Stormblood and a second one didn't exist until this expansion.

If the game has been stagnating since HW, shouldn't it have only the content we had in HW?

If you felt like you had more to do in HW, how much of that was due to not having reached 50 on every job in ARR not to mention 3 new jobs to level from 30 to 60?

Exp rewards have been increased over time, which is nice QOL for players trying to catch up but it also means we have that much less to do to level jobs from 80-90. We also only need to gain a total of 40 levels for new jobs added instead of the 90 levels in HW.

Certainly I understand that job design, especially for healers has become a problem. My gut feeling is that is what's causing most of the discontent. If jobs aren't fun to play then the battle content will be less fun to play.

But we have more types of content to do now than we had in HW. In that regard, the game has not stagnated regardless of personal feelings about the quality of the content.

I've been doing savage since launch, have progged Ultimate, and never asked for content to be nerfed. I'm on record asking for min ilvl to be applied to alliance roulette so you can't outgear it, and I have yet to ask them to nerf any content. But sure.



My stuff is all public, I don't hide my character.

I can only imagine but, it's pretty clear that the game has downgraded slowly over time.

I think we need more options, more Varity, removal of strict 120 raid buffs. Healers and Tanks over time have degraded, even now DPS players are starting to feel the impact of everything being made for beginners. We don't need every jobs rotation to be easy to understand casual players don't care about optimising rotations, Casual healers aren't going to care about using more then one damage button because they will just heal. The list goes on and on.

Certain things should be added back more upsides and downsides should be visible on jobs, "Balance" shouldn't be to make every Job to play the same. Content shouldn't just be Hard content or boring easy dungeons we need middle ground, I love middle pretty difficult content, But honestly there isn't even close to enough of that in this game.

Also jobs when synched down now aren't really fun its not like if you synch down to 60 your playing "hw warrior" your playing watered down EW warrior. because abilities are just removed at this point to make jobs easier.... now they feel awful at lower levels
