There's actually quite a diverse set of opinions on the forums, the only difference being that we cannot express a said opinion without - In some way, shape, or form making passive-aggressive digs at each other, or other demographics in the community.

Perhaps those trying to create strawman arguments about anyone with critical feedback as not leaving their homes would be better served with some self reflection. The attempts to render any attempt at voicing criticism as a time wasting exercise has always been something conducted in bad faith. Nobody is forcing you to read or even agree with it. Yet this forum's purpose is largely to serve as a place for customers to leave feedback. They're encouraged to do so if they raise an issue in-game.

Whether anyone working for the company actually reads it is another matter altogether, though people have long bonded on forums such as this by discussing the game's perks and/or flaws.

How DARE you talk to a middle aged man who is happily married for 16 years and owns a multimillion dollar business and takes precious time out of his PRODUCTIVE AND FULFILLING life to enlighten we mortals that he got a 172 on the LSAT (which is totally not what everyone in t20 law already gets anyways, nuh uh!!)

Yeah, that checks out. There always has to be at least one person taking it personally for some reason. It doesn't even matter what the expressed opinion is. Though, it's been my observation that the more well-worded and thoughtful a position, the more likely it is someone will get salty.

j/k, you're right. It's very difficult to get any sort of nuance on internet forums. You have to actively ignore those being antagonistic while trying to respond to those that aren't. It gets messy very quickly. I've started just blocking everyone that gets that way. That said, I do the same thing, I can be just as antagonistic, hence blocking people will hopefully make me less so.

All too true. Sadly at this point even in this thread I can only read about half the posts, given how many people I needed to block. That said, it's quite nice to focus on those who can communicate their thoughts without insulting others.

There was a time where I let the forums get me riled up, and in the grand scheme of things, it simply isn't worth the energy.

It may or may not be true, though even if it is I've always considered it to be in rather poor taste to try and use one's real world experience as a bludgeon in an effort to 'win' an argument over a video game of all things.

MMO's attract people from all over the world from many different backgrounds, cultures, countries and belief systems. I'm sure if everybody revealed the 'who' and 'what' behind the poster then there would be quite a lot of interesting surprises. As it happens, though, most of us are a bit more cautious and tactful so don't feel the need to make real or false declarations about our personal lives.

I admittedly did get a good laugh out of it, though, because it's an excellent example of the specific kind of passive aggressive smug that portions of this game's community embrace with zero self awareness.
