Is a Chocobo Companion rework needed?

They seem to have lost interest in expanding upon Chocobo Companions outside of giving them things to play dress-up with. I would not be the least bit surprised if they are content to leave it where it is like most features they created early-on and won't/don't want to update. *cough*Squadrons*cough*

Necessary, no. Would it be appreciated, yes. I rarely bother to summon my bird to fight because it just doesn't amount to much.

Of course, what I'd really like is to be able to bring out some of my other mounts to fight. Let me call out my cavalry drake, or my tyrannosaur, or my magitek armor, or something. Even just the black chocobo from Heavensward. But I'm not holding my breath.

Wouldn't say no to any of these suggestions. However, none of them would make me as happy as an update that would allow my chocobo to lie down to rest when I /sit, am idle, or fishing.

Where is choco meteor? add choco meteor. Make it 900 potency.

Out of all the ideas mentioned, I think making it so the bird can actually keep hate is the first thing they should look at.

Consider that a few years ago, they change tanks' tank stance to essentially be "hit this button, keep hate." Have you ever seen how long it takes to lose hate if you've hit the enemy with about 5 GCDs and then just stand there and do nothing? This isn't ARR's tank stance anymore. This is your character having something like 1000 enmity per hit and the rest of the party accruing 1 enmity per hit.

Give the bird that sort of tank stance.

While they are at it, outfit the bird with a lite version of what all other tanks have had added to their kit. A self-heal and/or self-shield type ability.

Mind you, I don't think the bird should be able to stand toe-to-toe with an A rank. I don't think it should be able to tank one of those rare FATE bosses for very long. But, tank stance bird is just broken. It doesn't keep hate against a modestly geared character. Make it do what its job was.

Even if they lack damage, having a better capability of them to survive would help a lot. Even if that means the chocobo is constantly self healing and cant even attack anymore because of the self healing.

I really hope they can rework them a bit.

I am not sure, maybe mine hates me, but he is really bad with healing me on time. I cant count the amount of times where he stood over my lifeless body after being set to healing only and not managing to do that...A friend of mine has the problem too.

yes it would be nice to see some updates for my feathered friend.

The only thing I want changed is the whole issue with Thav. Onions, I don't like being taken for a gil ride on that.

Even regular boss mobs can be a problem. If you're leveling a melee DPS and want to hit your positionals for example the pet would still be a poor choice because as a DPS player you have Second Wind, Bloodshed, and Potions. Your chances of surviving are better than your chocobo friend, so the question goes back to "Why bother" with anything other than healing stance?
