I'm hoping..........
The new world that will be created will have many dangers, many evils, and a sinster plot behind it all. And the only way we can save the new Eorzea is to face these challenges and overcome the darkness that lurks behind it all.
Ifrit, Garuda, Leviathan, they are merely simple foes to test our mettle upon. Training exercises for the upcomming battles that we must face.
Challenges against enemeis so powerful, in dungeons so dangerous, that everything we've done till now will be mere basic training for what has yet to come.
You think that tripple melded armour, or that Ifrit's Bow is going to help you? The new servants of darkness will swipe it away with a single blink. Only an army of Eorzea's best... dozens upon dozens of its adventurers banded together in an ultimate alliance will stand a chance against the enemies that come.
Cultimating in a single magnificient campain that will last 100 nights and 100 days, before one finally emerges victorious. The true saviours of Eorzea. The ultimate bosses finally defeated.
(Until the next expansion comes out).
The long range purpose is hard to determine without a physical disk. Provided you didn't download your copy of the game, you can determine the long range purpose by taking the disk outside and giving it a good throw. I suggest placing your middle finger in the disk's opening, then using a swift horizontal toss, releasing it from your finger. You'll find its range to be at least 20 feet.
Also, lol@ Campaign, Dynamis, and Limbus being referred to as activities of "substance." I guess OP is pining for a good ole fashioned long-term gear grind.
Um, to be a time sink? Welcome to video games.
What is the purpose of an MMO?
Crush your enemies.
See them driven before you.
And hear the lamentations of the wimmins and the children.
