Big this. Math-wise everything is pretty tight, and that translates to tight balance. This is a good thing since we avoid the WAR/DRG/BRD/NIN/SCH/AST hard-locked meta that started to take form around mid-SB and held until ShB. But they need to not let the spreadsheets govern every decision. Yoshi P. mentioned how this was something he was concerned about back during a discussion last summer, so I find it odd that the SAM change (not to mention many of the other changes that have occurred) either went through or are still here. There's either some kind of disconnect between Yoshi P. and his team or else Yoshi has a more spreadsheet-y definition of fun than we were led to believe.
It's the hyperbole that player's use, that causes doubt like this.
"They removed Kaiten, SAM is no more!!!!!"
It was an ability, to buff the next weapon skills potency by 50%.
I fail to see how the removal of it, suddenly means that SAM is FUBAR'd.
And I know, "But you don't play SAM, so you don't know anything." It doesn't take playing a class, to see how a skill that only effects one ability being removed, doesn't mean the sky is falling.
But to each, their own.
Later.
You said exactly the same on another post "it's just one skill", I don't think going through all the SAM threads on the forum repeating that it's just a skill will make us accept what SE did to our main job. If most of us are feeling the same way maybe there is a reason ?
Define, "Most".
Because very few people, when it comes to the actual player base that mains SAM, have came and actually posted about the change on here. Meaning that there is a very small minority of people who actually are upset by this, while the rest (The bulk.) just keep playing, and adjust to job changes as they come out, as most people do.
And I will keep on saying, "It's one skill.", as many times as the same thread is created, over the same, "Issue." Because losing a skill that enhances the potency of one attack, is hardly a reason to come unglued and say that the devs don't play this game, that this skill removal makes SAM impossible to play, or it makes the rotation wonky.
It's a MMO, devs changes abilities, fuse abilities, and remove them too. Nothing to stress over at all.
I have seen - at this point - several dozen first-time posters who specifically came to the forums and made an account to protest the SAM changes. You'd have to be blind or intentionally ignoring them to not see that at this point. As the old company saying goes, for every one person writing a letter there are a thousand that think the same thing. Here in the internet age maybe that ratio is closer to 1:100 or even 1:50 but you can bet your butt that things are bad what with so many people going out of the way to post for the first time.
People were begging for changes to summoner for a very long time. I was one of them. I didn’t so much mind the gameplay as the inconsistency in the theme. Poison spells as our main source of damage as a summoner?
Thematically the job is great now. If they could add complexity and fix the clunkiness and reevaluate the caster role and rez tax, all would be good.
It's 2022 and people still fall for the vocal minority fallacy? Besides, the DPS forums have a couple of threads started by people that liked the changes. If we want to conclude what the SAM playerbase think based on forum threads, then we should infer that the majority of it doesn't like the changes, because the people that are complaining far outweight the ones praising the changes. No? :)
Well, in this internet age, you can't really believe everything you read either.
I don't know, maybe it's my age, or the mindset that I have. Because over the past 30ish years of gaming, I've been able to separate myself from an issue and really look at it with a new perspective, to see is this really as bad as I think it is, or am I being a little bit overly dramatic due to the way it makes me feel, and not how it actually is. I like to believe in the developers and the company that produces a game, and try to understand their idea on changes they've made, and also understand that this is a game, and as a game is not real life and not to take it personally when a change is made that makes me feel uncomfortable/upset. And if, the change(s) they make, are truly a screw up, believe they will fix it.
So people just need to be patient, because stressing over a skill in a video game, in the grand scheme of things, isn't worth the head ache.
